Pilot Maneuvers

I had some Dilithium lying around and traded it for zen, which I used to buy a pilot escort. I had disregarded those ships in the past because I find bigger ships more interesting, usually, but I was always mildly curious about the pilot maneuvers. The pilot boff powers (which I examined with my T6 escort carrier three-pack) are mostly gimmicks, so I anticipated that the maneuvers would play out just like that, but I wanted to try.

And I must say: They are potentially extremely useful, especially for a forward-firing weapon load. Use lowest engine power setting, fly towards target at full throttle and shoot, when less than 1 km from target, press S twice, afterburn 5km backwards, fly towards target and shoot, etc. Escape from enemy AOE effects, press W twice...

Basically, the pilot maneuvers are what I was always missing with forward-firing ships. Sure, forward-firing isn't a big DPS generator pre-season-13, which probably explains why they had so little success... but end of this month, that might change.

Thinking about it: I'd love to have a universal console in the game that adds pilot maneuvers to any ship.

Yeah, I love my Pilot Escorts. Those pilot maneuvers are pretty sweet. I just hate when I accidentally double tap a movement key and fly past my target.

I really like the boff setup for the tac version. I can run 2 copies of pilot team 1 for extra speed, not use Hazard Emitters and instead use Hold Together and Science team for heals. This allows me to completely dump aux and just put power in Weapons and Engines. It's really zippy!

    Glad you like it!

I don't really use them as part of attack runs, but for defensive purposes they're great.

Performing a roll just before the entity sends out its shockwave, or when you're taking heavy fire in general has saved me countless times already.

I prefer larger ships as well, and Science ships over escorts (still considering buying the Caitian one though as it looks great) but if I have to be in an escort on my tac, I definitely choose a Pilot one.

Problem is they are subject to the immunity lockout and despite my asking, it seems they are going to leave the pilot manuevers as is

Even though the immunity of the roll was the point of the manuever gimmick.

    Retaining value my back foot.

Was it? Why bother with 4 movement directions then? The immunity is what makes it basically an overpowered feature that devalues every Escort without it!

The manuevers would be awesome without any immunity at all.

I agree and still will use it, but the manuever should at least either have a lowered fuel tank cd or a defence bonus on use - the fuel tank cd was fair when there was an immunity attatched but post nerf, I feel shortening it would be justified

I believe it actually has a defense bonus already.

immunity was a bit much, but I guess "just another escort bundle" with pilot seats wouldn't have sold that well.
Massive defense boost would have been a more balanced aproach.
But hey, what does it matter other than making most other escorts obsolete? It's not like there is super competitive PVP in this game anyway.
