I am putting this up in the hopes that it will not just be ignored, although highly likely it will be, by the devs but it will be considered. I love this game and I had a thought recently regarding latinum in game. I had thought that it might be nice to have a latinum exchange, similar to the dilithium exchange, where we can convert it into lobi. Since the Lobi Consortium is basically run by Ferengi and they love latinum, it seems to make sense. In my opinion (and it may just be me), latinum in game seems useless to collect otherwise. I would appreciate any legitimate thoughts from the game staff on this idea.

I seriously doubt Latinum, a relatively worthless currency in the game will ever be convertible into Lobi Crystals, one of the most valuable currencies in the game.
If it were to happen, the exchange rate would be so ridiculous that it would invariably be pointless to pursue. Latinum is not a currency desired by players so there would be no point in trading Lobi Crystals for it.
Latinum has extremely limited uses by design, because it is incredibly easy (and efficient) to convert Energy Credits into Latinum.
Energy Credits to Latinum to Lobi Crystals would be like using Dollars (or whatever your country's primary currency is), to Carnival Prize Tokens, and then converting those Carnival Prize Tokens into briefcases full of $100 bills.
Ah, thank you for the link. I wasn't aware that the idea had been thrown out there already. There are a lot of valid points on that front. Something needs to be done to either make it more useful or maybe they should just eliminate the GPL entirely since it has no use aside from holo-emitters and dabo. Even a GPL to energy credits conversion would be useful. But then, it's not like any of the devs actually read what we put in the forums. Not as far as I know.
But as others have said, game-wise it probably will never happen because of real world economics.
As an aside, according to Trek lore, it's the Lobi crystals that are near worthless (memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Lobi_crystal), while you can buy planets with Latinum. Maybe Cryptic ought to do a little switch-a-roo here so the currency everyone is buying ships and other cool stuff is precious Latinum, while the fun little holo-emmiters and other cosmetic stuff would be traded for in cheap Lobi.

That would be interesting, lol
Maybe I phrased my idea wrong, but I was think more along the lines of having the ability to buy lobi using GPL, not using lobi to buy GPL. But I have seen a lot of the points made on the topic and understand them. You can use energy credits for GPL in dabo, but you cant use GPL for energy credits. GPL is pretty useless.
Not trying to sound overly harsh but that will never happen. Lobi is intended to be locked behind a pay wall of zen.
That is good to hear. That has changed over the years then.
Not only that, but some folks have stockpiled countless millions of GPL and are simply waiting for something new and tradable to be added to the GPL vendor. Any valuable item added to the GPL vendor would immediate stop being valuable.
It's the same reason lobi are not sold by bartenders at Quark's for EC.
