Tactical in the bigger ships?

I am using a Romulan tactical pilot ship and am using dual heavy cannons. the ship is pretty quick and agile and I like it.

Was wondering if there are any benefits to a tactical captain piloting ht ebigger slower ships and using 250 phaser arrays?

I ask because it would be nice oto have something with a bit more survivablility on occasion and the only way for me to try one is to buy one.

the meta currently favors a larger ship with almost if not all beam arrays, so yes. someone else will be along shortly to tell you more if they haven't made already a post.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

Tactical Officers work fine in larger ships. The larger ships increase their survivability compared to Escorts. Cruiser Commands help, too, by lowering power cost or upping shield regen. Grab a 'Conductive RCS Accelerator' to make turning easier. Most people use the big ships with 'Beam: Fire At Will' if they go with Arrays. 'Surgical Strikes' works as a decent, single-target alternative if your ship has an Intel seat. One thing that you should be aware of though is that a Beam Cruiser with BFAW is that it will be more dull than playing the Cannon Escorts. You don't have to pilot the ship nor do you have to aim. You only have to click the Abilities' button.

If you are going to with a larger ship then I would suggest picking up the Scimitar-style vessels. Scimitar Dreadnought are the best large ships available for Romulan Captains, arguably the best for any race. You really just need one unless you want the Console set, which I think is, like, six ships. You'll need multiple consoles if you want to use the Thalaron weapon, though (not that it is worth it).

As a Romulan you're sort of spoiled for (good) choices. T6 flagship Scimitars are great, with the science version being the highest rated DPS ship in the game IIRC.
    Shamshir
    Flambard
    Khopesh

The T6 Mogai is impressive out of the box and absolutely top notch in its fleet form.
Winged Death, with a side of 'Can't Touch This'

More expensive but still fun is the T6 T'laru Intel Carrier (get it on the exchange). Not a cruiser, but still big and satisfyingly rugged.
It's NOT the Narada, but It'll do

And if you wait about 3 months the upgraded Tier 6 'battle squid' will become available.

Tactical officers and engineers probably work best with the dreadnought ships.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

My tac main has everything from an annorax sci dread to cruisers to little raiders like the tadaari and does very well in all of them, long as your build for the ship youre in fits, you should have no issues in a big ol beam whale. Like dont put normal beam arrays on the pilot shop thats not optimal for example

Tactical Captains go with pretty much any ship. Hell, they are better in an Exotic Build Science Vessel than a Science Captain can ever hope to be.

Romulan tactical captain In a T6 dreadnought with nasty beam build.
    Mmmmmm melty..... :D
Seriously though as a guy with many tac captains who lurvs cannonboats on little ships and beamboats on dreadnoughts I can honestly say dreadnought beamboats are easier to perform better with, but cannonboats are more fun. Thats just my opinion of course. My favourite build list is probably 60/40 in favour of beamboats, but that's also factoring in the larger number of beamboats I own.

As said before, anyone can fly anything they want. All classes can be good in any size ship.

That being said, check out the Morrigu, it's unreal good. Tough like a large cruiser, agile like an Escort, fantastic trait, console and bridge officer layout.. the ship is amazing.

I personally prefer the Morrigu over the Scimitar variants, but you can't lose with either. If you really want something big and menacing then the Scimitar is one of the best ships in the game. You really do have a lot of great options.

Bigger ship's..aka cruisers have more weapon hard points and as long as they have decent boff layouts that generally translates into more damage be it cannons or beams. Though turn rate factors into how well you will do with cannons. Beams are much more forgiving. I will say as someone that plays both you should play whatever you enjoy most.

If you use a couple dual beam banks you definitely do still have to aim :)

I mainly use battle cruisers even though I have a tac Captain. There great and can take a ton of damage. They can also do some serious dps depending on your setup. The biggest problem with using Cannons or heavy cannons with the large ships is your turn rate. Ship that are really big (Like the Astika battle cruiser I have) can have a lot of problems getting on target with only a 90 degree arc for the weapons and such a slow turn rate. I went back the other day and flew my t6 fleet Tac raptor and it puts the larger ships to shame when it comes to dps. My Jem hadar carrier I would say does the most dps out of my large ships. It does also use dual cannons (Same firing 90 degree arc) but it's highly agile for a large ship and it has 2 hanger bays with elite ships that do a fair amount of dps.
What I guess I'm saying is you can get it to work on the larger ships but they kinda become a hybrid. Half dps and half tank. They can take a ton of damage and still dish out some but if your looking for flat out dps I'd say you should be looking for a escort or tactical ship.

I have a t5 scim, dual heavy, two dual beam banks, firework torpedo launcher and standard beam on the front, two beams and vaadwuaar torp in the tail. the beams give good broadside attack and there's a nice a sting in the tail. also torp spread and cannon rapid fire allows you to seriously plough the road. also with the console set increases turn rate so much at 50-60% throttle you can almost fly like an escort.

+1 for the mogai esp if you get the console set. the T5 Valdore console is a must have for a rom IMHO

I currently have my tactical Reman in a Taenen (Strategic Multi-Mission Explorer) with a Polaron/Transphasic (3 Beam arrays, 1 Omni beam array and Breen Rapid Reload Transphasic Torps fore and aft) build doing 17k,... All weapons are Mk XIV (VR/UR), no traits that didn't come with either the toon or ships and fleet/ship/rep/mission reward consoles.

Don't let anyone ever tell you that certain careers MUST fly certain classes of ships or that certain weapons are "useless". Fly what you like, the rest is just window dressing,...
