Any chance his name could be changed to Thomas Blair? That's the name of the USS Defiant captain according to the novels ]Interphase Book One, Interphase Book Two, Seven Deadly Sins, What Judgments Comes and Purgatory's Key.

    There's no canon name for the Defiant's captain, and there are multiple names given in print. Besides, Cryptic is not beholden to anything in any of the novels, and most likely cannot use anything from any novel without getting permission first.

    I don't think they need permission, since STO already includes a lot of stuff from the novels like Mackenzie Calhoun, Tiaru Jarok, the Luna-class and the Vesta-class.

    They needed permission for the Vesta. Was a lengthy and expensive process from what I remember at the time.

    Don't forget the NX-Refit, that was from the Novels.
