Levelling a new captain, and the Romulan reputation

As you all may have noticed, the dev team has moved the missions that originally were unlocked from the Romulan reputation tiers to the storyline a while ago.

Because I deem it fun, I make new captains from time to time, so I get a pretty good view on how the levelling process works out. Unfortunately, when it comes to those missions and their interlocking with the Romulan reputation, it doesn't, even with sponsorship tokens, really work all too well. At least not for the final mission.

As it stands, you do the missions in order, but the cutscene after clearing the underground facility of the Tholians only becomes available once you have completed the Romulan reputation - which will take quite some time after that on a new account without sponsorship, and is even too slow compared to story progression with a sponsorship token.

I would strongly suggest to solve this by having the cutscene show up in any case, so as to explain the following episode Sphere Of Influence.

The issue doesn't have anything to do with the new revamp, it existed before. When I first started playing STO I started as a Rom and ran into that issue. So many things didn't make any sense to me as doing the rep took far, far longer than it took me to get past the Rom stuff and into Dyson/Delta etc. In regards to all of the rep cut scenes, I've been saying since I ran into this issue what they should be part of the actual story missions as opposed to the rep. But I doubt they'll change that as it means detaching all that stuff from the rep and in this case, from getting your final reward.

I've noticed the same thing while leveling up my various post-LoR characters. Having those story scenes behind the reputation made a sort of sense right when the rep came out. That's where everybody was funneled at endgame, and Sphere of Influence didn't yet exist. You had plenty of time to get through the rep and see those scenes.

It is an improvement that the mission journal now directs people to playing those instances (otherwise people often never knew they existed). However, the problem is and always has been that important cutscenes are locked behind your rep progress. It's always been a problem that you were directed to play the ruins at Tier 4, but wouldn't get the all important cutscene unless you were at Tier 5. Now it's basically that way for all of them. People will play them when directed to by the mission journal, but not get the cutscene, then go back and have to do it all AGAIN as they unlock the rep tiers.

It made a sort of sense at the time. The rep system was new, and they didn't yet know how they were going to integrate reps into the story. Now it's just a clunky artifact that serves to confuse new players.
