Huge thanks to Cryptic for the giveaways.

I'm sure some will come on here to rant and rave but I'll always be grateful and offer my thanks, even if I already have the items.

    Happy anniversary to you guys!

I think it was a give away item in a previous giveaway and i already had it in my inventory, but i appreciate the gesture.

Would be nice if people who already own the giveaway received a Phoenix prize pack or something instead, maybe next year Cryptic?

Yeah, I think that I got this in a previous giveaway, too. Still, it's the thought that counts, and it gives us more chances to see a well dressed Gorn, so I'm OK with it.

You know, that's not a bad idea. I'm not too confident that it'll happen, but it could reduce the amount of "they already gave me this!" complaints. (One of which I will now make. They already gave me this.)

Aye, it's awesome what they're doing, but I'm starting off being "gifted" something I already have. Hell, it's one of the only C-store outfit packs I own! Maybe Intel or Mercenary will pop up later, as they're also cross-factional outfits with a lot of toys to play with.

But agreed, a Phoenix Pack would've been nice. Or maybe a bound infinity lockbox with a bound key to open it with?

Still, they're handing out free stuff so I can't really complain. The suits looks fantastic (my Saurian looks particularly dapper in his), so I'm sure there's plenty of excited players who are overjoyed to get it all for free. And who knows what the next days will bring?

Drat, they finally started repeating giveaways. Oh well, still nice of them to do for all the new players. I too like evilmark444's idea, anyone who already has the current giveaway gets a Phoenix Lock Box

I appreciate and applaud the giveaways. This is the first time they are giving away something I already had, but it still makes me happy they are giving this away.

Then those who got the costume would go "they got an awesome phoenix box and we got stuck with this costume"

Got the costume the last time it was a freebie, but that's okay. I've been here long enough that it's bound to happen that something they give away I already own. I look forward to seeing what we get tomorrow, and throughout the rest of the week.

And even if I already own everything that ends up being given away, there are always others that don't. The universe doesn't revolve around me and it's nice to see folks use the "new shiny" for a while after they come out.

Got it already, but still cool for those that don't. Anyone that has been playing for a few years will always get less out of these giveaways, maybe they could offer a choice of the giveaway item or a few universal upgrades or maybe some dil. This way those that want the item will be happy and so will those that don't.

I also already have this. I purchased it way back when it was originally released.

STO has had many of these sort of giveaways, and most of the time I already have the freebie because I have spent money. Each time I speak up asking for alternative gifting, but it's clear by the fact that they haven't done anything about it (over the years), that Cryptic has chosen to not put effort into the idea, and is therefore disinterested in making sure those that support the game through purchases are equally rewarded with free giveaways.

    >shrug<

It's a good costume pack, though. Cheers! to those that are getting it for the first time today. You'll enjoy it! :)

Anyone who's complaining about the giveaway is automatically placed in the 'lowest of the low' category IMHO! It's free stuff whether you have it or not. Talk about looking the gift-horse in the mouth, and no, you shouldn't be offered an alternative if you already have it! Sheesh. Talk about entitled! I'm probably going to already have everything in this giveaway, but it matters not to me because I think it's great that those that don't have whatever comes their way can be a little pleased with it.

The whole idea of the idiom you are using is that you shouldn't inspect/complain about something you are freely given. In this situation, I can't be looking in the gift-horse's mouth, if I am gifted no horse.

I have never once complained about anything free that I have received. If I get something free, that's GREAT! I feel good about it, and I always come to the forums and say thanks. No matter how big or small. Free is free, and I appreciate the thought. Now if I were complaining about something I got, then that would be looking a gift-horse in the mouth. And that in my opinion would make me the "lowest of the low" (YMMV).

As for my sense of entitlement... Sure, let's talk about it. I do not feel entitled in general... I'm not going around here saying "Hey Cryptic, givz me free stufz.", nor do I feel I deserve anything more than any other Gold Player... (Yes, I do expect an "Enhanced Play Experience" because I pay money to play this game, over a Silver, or Free-to-Play player, but that expectation isn't entitlement, it's just getting what I pay for (and I expect only what I pay for).)

But when they offer free stuff, make it a big deal as part of their new season promotion, and I don't get anything, I do feel disappointed. Suppose there's an ad about Santa showing up with free stuff, but when he comes round, other people get a gift but you don't. Disappointing, right? Same thing. It's not like I still get the gift, and I now have two of them because I already owned one... No, I get nothing. Sure, I'm happy the other kids got something (really, I am pleased people got this costume, it's a neat set, and I said as much), but that doesn't mean I don't also feel left out of the fun.

I'm not raving or ranting or calling Cryptic names. Just stating my opinion that they should consider those of us that already have the item. I mean if the point really is to give us something... Why not give a Zen rebate to those that have already paid for it? Or otherwise, something else of similar value... Anything, so I can participate in the New Season Promotion, too.

I didn't complain, I said it would be nice if those who already had it received phoenix prize pack instead, and posed a (likely to be ignored) question to those at Cryptic asking if that would be a possibility next year. The entire point of giveaways like this is to get players excited and logging in, and the simple fact is that since I already have this outfit I am neither excited nor logging in today, whereas I would for a Phoenix pack or some other consolation gift even though it's unlikely to give me anything I really want. The reason I suggested the Phoenix pack is because you can't sell anything from it, and you can't buy anything from it either. Again, I'm not complaining, and I'm not demanding an additional gift either, I'm simply saying it would be nice.

Ya know, Cryptic DOES NOT HAVE TO GIVE AWAY ANYTHING! Yes, I was shouting. Meant to.

Every year in these giveaways, Cryptic usually gifts players with things or ships which I already own. There is usually one or two items I don't have, though. These are usually very minor items. Still, there are a great many players who acquire items or ships for the first time. Such as some of my newer friends or Fleet mates. While I'd like to get something nice which I do not already own, I get to be happy at one remove for the folks I like playing with. They become enthused about this game all over again.

Which means I get to hang out and play STO with people whom I like while doing so. Which, after all these years, is a pretty good reward in itself as far as I am concerned. Since February 2012, I have met people from all over the world who enjoy Star Trek as much or more than I do. I have learned a lot about MMO's and gaming from them. I look forward to logging in each day and spending some quality time with these people. So I already have the doodad Cryptic has decided to give away for free today. So what?

Can we not get away from the 'me me ME!' stuff for even a little bit? Apparently not. Which makes this Community and the people in it a little bit smaller in my eyes. How sad.

EDIT: Thanks for the free stuff, Cryptic. I already have nearly all of it but I do appreciate the gesture. Wish some other MMO's I play did something similar.

You know, I think it's funny that the only ones getting really upset about this are the ones defending Cryptic. I said it would be nice if they offered an alternative to those who already have it. It would also be nice if I won the lottery, that doesn't mean it would or even should happen. Saying it would be nice of they did something =/= saying they need to do something.

Everyone else who already has the giveaway has said something along the lines of "meh, already have it, but it's great that Cryptic is doing this for the new players," with some of them also politely agreeing with me or offering their own alternatives. And then there's a couple posters aggressively defending Cryptic from attacks that don't seem to exist ...

Well as long as they don't repeat any items from mid to late '15 and all of '16 then I would be okay with them repeating items that came before since I already missed out on most of them.

I have not been snarky nor underhanded, I said exactly what I meant and I said it in what I felt was a polite and respectful way. So please, take your "alternative facts" somewhere else.

And not that it matters to this topic, but FYI I bleed blue (as in I would never even consider voting republican) and I was so upset by the election I had to call out of work the next day. The suggestions that there were attacks against Cryptic amused me, but suggesting I would ever vote for that whiney little orangutan baby really makes me angry.
