Opinions on the Denuos Dreadnought Carrier?

djf021djf021 Member Posts: 1,379 Arc User
I noticed the Sphere Builder Dread Carrier is quite affordable on the exchange. This could be because people weren't interested, they think it's ugly, the market is flooded with them, or...because they suck.
How is this ship? I've never flown full carriers much, but this one seems to have a decent turn rate (for a full carrier) and good Boff layout, and orientation toward tactical. The full temporal Reconstruction Beam ability also doesn't hurt. I can easily see this as a solid beam FAW and Recursive Sheering III build assisted by the fighters.
Would you recommend this ship?

Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

nope. no opinion. You have to recall you will be looking at it for hours, so you don't want an ugly ship. unless, it just blows away all your other options. As it sounds like a large slow ship, I'd probably not use it, as I lean towards fighter/escorts.

    Hugely inferior to the Annorax.
Console layout is okay, good balance in fleet exploders and tac spire consoles count. Lame stations layout: very restrictive temporal-tactical seating which you obviously wouldn't even find useful for the temporal abilities (APB, FAW, Kemo, TT, and no room for anything else), bummer for engineering. Unless you dedicate the universal for tactical, then you probably could have a breathing room in your builds, but once again hinders engineering. Science is enough for FBP/TRB/DRB spam, lacks of commander for extra punch. Can spam temporal+sci, though.
    4/3 weapons, disappointment for a heavy-hitting ship.
Comes with a useless ship console. Hangar pets are somewhat good to spam the temporal build-ups.
Visually, ugly as hell. My wrinkly balls look better than this.

In comparison to the Edoulg (which is the ball reincarnated), looks underperforming.

It sounds decent, specs wise. Ugly as sin, though, which is probably not helping it any in sales. Also, supply is a bit high thanks to some of other things in the box having decent resale value, with Space Traits in particular going for decent amounts making opening these en-mass more profitable. I would also class the Annorax as better, but that's bit of a steep price jump in comparison.

You could always grab one from the Exchange, copy that char to Tribble and open it on there to give it a whirl. If you don't like it, resale your unopened package still on Holodeck (though, there's always a risk of loosing EC.)

I wouldn't use Recursive Sheering III on anything but CCA and maybe certain high-DPS runs (Hive Elite and such), where other people's DPS on large targets can be leveraged to boost it, as it taking up the spot for APB3 or APO3 doesn't sound like a winning combo for most content that's filled with large numbers of small targets.

It's actually a pretty descent carrier stat wise. The console/weapon/Bridge Officer Layout is better then a lot of carriers, it's biggest flaw is the way it looks. If you can get past the looks, it's not a bad value for 185M. It's not a great ship, but certainly not bad.

The Duenos frigate pets (require the Tier 5 Sphere Builder ship) are pretty cool. They are tough and in higher rarities even feature beam fire at will (and in all torpedo spread, channeled deconstruction and rapid decay. No idea if they actually benefit from the entropy stacks, though). So they compete relatively well with Scimitar Drones and provide some neat fireworks.
it's also interesting in that these ships warp in, instead of spawning from some position on the ship.

It has a decent turn rate for a Carrier. I enjoyed it more than I expected - but I had to go back to my Long Range Science Vessel Retrofit once I got the mastery trait.

DJ: That's a good question. I plodded around in it, just because it fell out of of box I had opened. One of the other 'sphere' ships did too...that one looks more like a 'sphere'. I have no idea which of the three(?) it was. Anyways, I have two of these sphere builder ships that are not the same as each other.

I'd say if you want to invest the time into learning the spells those sphere ships cast, then go for it. I myself am waaay too casual to start up another line of work at STO.

I've secretly been waiting for someone to post a build I can just copy paste on either of the sphere ships and just go blast stuff into space dust.

I've got the carrier. It's ugly. My build isn't perfect but it can manage 50k DPS easily. The destroyers are cheap to get so I have the elite frigate pets. It works well for me and with the molecular deconstruction and the frigate pets have bfaw it's decent and fairly tanky, I prefer it to my sleeker looking narcine

Agreed. I purchased it a little while ago - admittedly mostly for the trait; I was however quite taken with how nicely it performed.

And yeah, it's not a particuarly attractive ship - but isn't that an 'in the eye of the beholder' thing? The ships appearance doesn't bother me really, and I actually prefer it over the Scimitar, which I personally hate to the point where it's design means that, despite it's OP-ness, I've never used one.

I paid way less for the Vonph, that i like better... this was the first lockbox that i dont like.. the trairs are ok thou..

Besides my opinion that it (and the other SB ships) is ugly?
