had the same problem, tried a lot of ways to fix it (safe mode, different dx versions, changed th graphic settings and so on) what really helped was the last resort: delete sto and reinstall it
I'm getting the same thing, game crashes on map transfer. I reduced the resolution to try that, now the game won't start at all!
I'd love to delete STO and reinstall it, but I don't have the necessary downloads available for that. This last patch really TRIBBLE up the client, I'd love to get a major release for this game that doesn't seriously TRIBBLE something up, I just don't think it's going to happen.
I've been experiencing this same issue. It started (for me) with the release of Agents of Yesterday - Artifacts. From what I have been able to determine, this happens all the time on any of my Federation or 23rd Century faction toons. I have experienced it only once on a Romulan faction toon (regardless of chosen alliance) and haven't seen it happen yet on a Klingon faction toon, however I haven't played too much on the Klingon's since Artifacts went live for a full analysis.
A full description of what I have seen. When changing maps from sector to sector or sector to orbit or orbit to sector or sector/orbit to ground or ground back to sector/orbit or even ground to ground the gameclient starts showing the percentage loading screen and usually around 50 to 70 percent it stops. If you double click on the screen a windows error screen opens indicating that gameclient.exe has stopped responding and gives you the usual options to wait or cancel the application. Waiting leaves it in a hung state indefinitely (okay, I didn't wait past 5 minutes). If you cancel the client and restart, when you log back into the toon, it will be on the new map. I have been able to successfully join a pve match (Crystalline Cataclysm) without it hanging/crashing on the entry load but when transferring back to the original map after the pve match has finished the hang/crash happens.
In my experience, this nonsense really only picked up today (the quirk is that it never seems to occur during a loading screen). That being the case, I am curious as to whether or not it occurred on Tribble, and if not, what differences (software, hardware, networking) exist between it and Holodeck which might explain in part how it did not occur in the test environment.
Also of interest would be whether similar issues have been reported with other major releases.
Same here ... since the "updated graphics" patch, game regularly freezes on at least 30 % of area transition loading screens.
I have verified game files, tried all DX9 settings, assigned more memory, nothing helps. Also the "You have out of date graphics driver" error when I have the newest installed is pretty annoying.
This is getting older pretty damn fast!!! Map transfers are 40 seconds long and regular SNR's are popping up again now..Also I am in no way in the mood to redownload the entier 15GB..NO TRIBBLE WAY!!!
For me, this is nothing new. I've been having this same problem for the past two years, and it continued to happen even when I replaced my entire computer (it was getting old and brick'd itself).
Sometimes it happens more often, but when I zone in to a social zone (especially ESD) I have a cointoss of odds if the client will crash. Even if that's the first thing I do when logging in for the first time. "Log in" "Click toon" "Zone to ESD" "Crash"
I played it the day before yesterday, now no dice, thanks PW. Tried everything but entire game reload and if I delete it I am not coming back. Usually re install of the launcher or force verify does it, but not now.
Yeah I've had no luck after 3+ weeks of this problem. Even with the help of support standard ways of working around this do not work. My problem is I can log into any character as long as it wasn't on Q's Winter Wonderland map the last time it was logged in. So basically the characters I want/need to play are on that map so its pretty much game over for me until there is a fix for it.
For the past several weeks ever map change has been a gamble as to whether I am going to get Dec or not(winter Wonderland Event). Now after todays patch, the map change has a chance to make the game go totally unresponsive. It seems to lock the game Client, to the point where I can't even cancel the program on my taskbar. Forcing me to reboot the whole PC and reboot....with a chance when I log back in the game is going to crash again. Really Hope there is going to be a hot fix for this soon.
Sadly I am getting the good ol' map transfer (server transfers too) crashing where the game.exe stops working. IE: transferring from sector space to DS9 local space, or DS9 local space to DS9 ground (station) or from instance to instance (DS9 #4 to DS9 #1, ect) crashing issue, really brings back the memories of the good old days when the game actually WORKED!! (oh wait that was back before Cryptic got bought out by perfect world entertainment)...-_- PLEASE for the love of....<insert deity name here>...FIX these issues first then after that's done TEST the fixes and then after consider adding new content!! Please???
How I love having this bug and trying to play the omega game. Let's count how many gameclient.exe disconnects I got tonight.
Logged in at wolf359 and moved to beta quadrant. That's one disconnect. Moved to andoria space. That's 2 . Had to beam down. That's 3. Did scan and beamed up to andoria space. That's 4. actually got to beam to beta quadrant!
Beta to sol system. That's 5. Sol system to academy. That's 6. Was able to beam from academy to beta! Beta to siera system. That's 7. Siera system to star base 39. Thats 8. So the final total of map transfers is 2 successful and 8 game client crashes.
This bug has been going on since artifacts hit in October and yet nothing even listed on the known problems list for weekly patches. This is a crippling bug that needs to be squashed soon.

EDIT: Fleet member had me type this in the command line before you click ENGAGE -d3d9enable 1
While not 100%, I have gone through several missions before being booted from the client with this fix.
