Does this game have GMs?

bwleon7bwleon7 Member Posts: 310 Arc User
Have a griefer ruining mission been asking for GM help but none showing up.

Spamming mission share window over and over.

Then activated the wall to keep anyone else from fighting Armek on "The Cure" PvE mission.

Yes. But they are not what you are thinking. They are not Active, In-Game, create-and-run content Game Masters. They are more like Moderators and bug hunters. Thus, GM = Game Moderator instead.

Real shame. I remember the Cryptic GMs being very helpful when I played City of Heroes.

as for having issues in-game... you can try support for something you can come back to later.

But if you mean an annoying petty moron stealing everything on the screen type of 'griefer', can't help you there.
    Leave the mission.
    Do it later.

In the years that I have been playing I have ran into ONE. That was shortly after I started playing as well. So my response is no there are not any.

yeah more the petty type. Not a huge deal. Was only running stuff for the hell of it but I'm just surprised at how easy it is to ruin some missions. They really need to remake some of the missions to make them less griefer friendly.

Agreed. Game Moderators get swamped if anyone sees them, so don't log in unless they have to, but Game Masters don't exist.

well me and him are the only two left in the mission so at least I can keep him from hurting others for now. :) I'm playing a different game while I just leave STO running.

Welcome to STO, where idiots boldly do still play and ruin the ground PvE, and snowflakes having troubles to realize there is no single GM in this game. Fun fact: ground STF is a filthy business and you'd better attempt at playing this with your friends or as low as 3 folks you have been acquainted with in the team, or... embrace the 95% rule of idiocity in the light of lack of any moderation.

Actually, I wouldn't even play this one knowing I can't solo Armek, because you see why.

No. Or Fords. Or Chryslers. The Delta Quadrant has some Bugattis, though.

All right stee1max, it was a perfectly reasonable question. Of course they don't know unless they ask! Some games do have GMs, and this one does have something about "request GM help" so you wouldn't guess that there isn't any unless you were told.

It's deceptive to call Cryptic Staff "GM's" since they don't actually log into the game. They have "Support Staff" that answers tickets, but there has never been any form of in game support.

In STO, if you're getting griefed like that, the only option you have is deal with it or log off. For whatever reason, Cryptic has no interest at all in enforcing in game rules. Anything goes in STO, nothing is off limits. It's the Thunder Dome of MMO's.

I was about to say this, but it looks like, sea beat me to it. As his answers are a hell of a lot better than mine (and a lot more clear and short), I'll just say he beat me to the punch!

I assumed the opposite, this fam has been registered here since 2013 and posted to the forums, so theoretically, he knows the deal or at least must have heard of it.

You mean like EvE Online has been for the last decade?

There used to be a GM that would run hide-and-seek events on various planets for prizes - nothing worthwhile but it was fun. I think they made her stop doing it, and after that you never saw a GM in game.

I have seen Devs and mods ingame, Devs more often than mods by a long shot.
I've seen mods maybe twice? Once in ESD and once in old sector space, it's been over a year though thinking about it.
Devs though I see maybe once a quarter on average.
Mod-wise I guess they are (or were) there, but it's flatulence in a hurricane really in my experience.
I have had good technical support when I've had bad bugs from people like Trendy who passed the info to the relevant desk with haste, and was at least able to reassure. However socially based issues seem to go to the bottom of the pile in terms of priority by the powers that be. Just a work-manpower issue I suppose.

Not quite. Any sort of fraud on the zen store or even honest mistakes that makes them lose one penny in the zen store will lead to immediate ban.

    Absolutely correct.

If there is even the slightest hint that it might take money from Cryptic then boom.. gone. Although, I do believe that the majority of those countermeasures are automated, I'm sure that the prospect of fraud will get a staff member to take immediate action.

Outside of the revenue stream though.. they couldn't care less.

I think I've seen them maybe twice in-game. I know the last time was because of some people arguing politics. Haven't seen those people in the game since, not that I've been looking.
