PvP snowball fight!

This is an idea for next year's winter event. It is a PvP event, either queued or in the winter wonderland, where players use the winter items against each other. Unlike normal PvP, players can't use normal items, so unbalancing shouldn't be as big of a problem.

Some different variants of this could include:
  • traditional (snowballs only)
  • traditional+ (snowballs and snowball blasters)
  • candy fight
  • build snowmen to help you fight
  • and more

Different game modes could include:
  • elimination
  • snowmen building
  • kolibri battles (summon the monster to help fight other team/monster)
  • fortress (build/destroy other team's fortress)
  • and more

This would be a fun event to add to the holiday celebration next year. To go along with this, a complete re-do of PvP would be great with this. PvP snowball fight could bring back PvP and make it another great feature in STO. Or, having a snowball event alone would be great.

Comment below on what you think. Have any ideas about the event?

A few years ago, there wasn't an event but thrown snowballs, were a pvp weapon. You got hit and had a chance to be knocked down. as well as the speed and traction debuffs. Heck even a blog advertising the winter event, put out snowballs as a PvP weapon. In the end too many people came to the forums and cried about it, so it got removed. Great idea, but not going to happen anytime in the next few years.

I'd be for it if it was in a designated area like the ice rink, or a separate map (go to the snow globe, warp to Winter PVP-land).

The problem with area-wide pvp was/is with griefers going after people who don't want to pvp to harass them.

It's just a snowball... lighten up, folks. Your character being knocked down for few seconds is not the end of the world - and if it bugs you that much, just move elsewhere. I think it was nice and amusing to have and it'd be neat to have snowballfights again, in some way or form.

By all means throw snowballs at those who want to play with you. Some people find it amusing, others find it annoying. I prefer that people have choice and not have other people's ideas of "fun" forced upon them. Anything else is to allow bullying.

Here we go again. This is the Winter Wonderland equivalent of the same argument we've seen in the past about that certain device.

And of course not doing this or having this taken away has been '...a disaster of biblical proportions. Old Testament, real wrath of God type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!'

    If you get my point.

Do what you will as long as you are not flinging snowballs at me when in the Race, or in an Event like Tides, Fishing, Cones, Pie Eating, or Winter Invasion.

Nobody plays real PvP in this game so nobody would play this either.

Could just add a PvP flag to characters in game, those with said flag can be snowballed, and those without can't. Another MMORPG game has PvP flags.

  • Never knew throwing snowballs at people was such a big problem. This would be better off as a queued event than an event in the wonderland cycle. You join if you want to play with snowballs, you don't if you don't. What's the complaint? It can also be more than just snowballs, such as playing with all the winter weapons.

Exactly. Then everyone can enjoy themselves in their own way.
Sto players dont like pvp, what can you do?

What @andycman said. Or take @jodarkriders advice and go elsewhere. Star Wars maybe?

I think if your in the Pvp Race you should be fair game. As it is now you can still throw snowballs at people but all it does is the speed and traction debuffs no animations. For the record though I only pvp during the Winter and summer events, I think thats fun, flying around in my ship getting blasted every few minutes not fun.

A better solution would have been to have a snowball nullification device similar to the one you can buy on drozana. Bring back snowball pvp plz!!!

  • Once again, PvP and snowball fighting would be optional. You are not forced to do anything, but you can do it if you want. Unlike normal PvP, there would be more of a sense of balance because of the limits on what type of weapons you have. To go along with this, I think a complete re-do of PvP should be released alongside this.

Some people still dont understand it. If someone else wants to hit you with snow ball and it is fun to them, it doesnt' matter whether you like ti or not. Its a game. and also dont be a terrorist like repetitiveepic said:
There used to be snow ball pvp but terrorists on the forums convinced cryptic to remove it.

Probably the most shameful day in all of STO :(

Some people understand perfectly. They just don't agree with you.

I think as a que-able PVP, from the Winter Wonderland, it would be a Good Thing. My fleet would play.

The people posting about having mental breakdowns over snowballs and filing assault charges and stuff should have been referred to the authorities for mental evaluation/psych help.

You don't feed into people's insane behavior, it only makes it worse.

This from the person who called someone who disagreed with him a "terrorist"!

Probably just rehashing what's been said above:

But there used to be several winter related events that are no longer part of the game, including snowball fight type. In this one, two randomized groups would attempt to battle it out. I recall a 'capture the flag', 'ice skating', and a 'snowman invasion' all of which used a map with two snow-bridges built around a pond. There were others, but this is the only one I remember. Probably from back in 2013 or so.

There used to be A LOT more Queue events, both PVE and PVP. Think all of the PVP ones were yanked about the time that guy was fired, and if enough complaints filter up to Cryptic, they remove PVE events as well. Not even close to as many instances on the queue list as there used to be.

And the Winter Event feels... empty. Especially, if you were there when there was many, many, many things to choose from to do, instead of the limited 'one-only' Event list, 'one-only' winter instance, and a badly made 'Pie-eating contest' (which has been downgraded - it used to let you get up to 15+ pies in the time limit, now there is a problem just getting the toon to eat the pies).

There is also the Cooking Accolode recipe thing, but that doesn't really count.

In any case, all of the other instances are no more, and the ski events have gone the same way.

@Druk, did I leave anything out? Think you've been around as long as I have. Of course, @jodarkrider will probably just tell me I'm off my meds again and imagining things. ;)

I think the real problem was the un-melting snowballs, as they could by stockpiled up and used on any map throughout the year,

If they remove those, and keep the gazebo snowball free. They can add it back

Removing these from the game '...is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face.'

Not sure why peeps are whining in here to bring up this issue. In SWTOR, actually you get packs and great goodies to throw snowballs to other players. Everyone is motivated to get a shinie..perhaps here as well some incentive might be needed for those who whined?
