What species do you use for your crew (including character)?

I use mostly humans with one or two aliens.

    Lets see

    6 humans (including myself)
    3 Betazoids
    2 Trills
    1 Saurian
    2 Vulcans

That's the "senior crew" on my main toon.

Whatever I'm in the mood for when I make a character. My captains are 1 Vulcan, 1 Trill, 1 Romulan, 1 Klingon, 2 Aliens, 1 Reman. Boffs I'm not too picky about.

All of them! Except one species, on the Fed side, but otherwise if you can play as that species, I have at least one captain. I'm sure I'm not the only one either. ;)

I like variety. That said, I am trying, over time to get the perfect five Gorn, Lethean, and Reman crews for certain captains just to see if I can make all the same species seem different with what seem like more limited choices. Humans and Aliens are the easiest to give variety to, and so obviously aren't the same challenge.

My Federation captain is a 'vulcan' with a near all alien crew save for one human science officer. My Klingon captain is the kaminoan from my Federation captain's crew with their crew near all kaminoans save for one 'vulcan' who is my Federation captain recreated from an alien.

Well, for my KDFs it's mainly Klingons. I rationalise this as the fact that while the KDF now includes many races, since this arrangement is only a few years old the majority will still serve on their own ships. I also use quite a few Krenim as you can make them "passably Klingon" - the Kelvin Timeline helmets are great for this!

On my Feds, there's an all-Ferengi crew on a Nandi, and the others are mostly Human with the odd Vulcan (reflecting their 22c / 23c themes).

    Let's see what I have.

    Main Fed:
    *Captain: Caitian
    1 Gorn
    1 Caitian
    1 Voth
    1 Holo-Leeta
    1 Xindi-Reptilian
    1 Kobali

    KDF:
    *Captain: Ferasan
    1 Gorn
    1 Ferengi
    1 Orion
1 Blingon (Klingon from the Kelvin Timeline)
    1 Breen
    1 Nausicaan

    RR:
    *Captain: Reman
All the storyline crew (3 Romulan, 1 Reman)
    1 Kobali
    1 Jem' Hadar

    23rd Fed:
*Captain: Deltan (really a bald Human due to restrictions)
    1 0718 Android replica
    1 Andorian
    2 Tellarite
    1 Holo-Leeta
    1 Hierarchy

And based on statistics, I probably have 2 Undines, 1 Founder, 3.5 androïds and 3 TDI agents in disguise.

I have a mix, always do. Even my characters aren't consistent. I have two humans, two klingons, two romulans, two tellarites and two aliens, two caitians and a ferasan.
Now a LTS and loving it.

I will only use my away teams for this, as I have a huge buttload of boffs with the intent of diversity (my main cannot buy any more boff slots...)

    Fed-Sci Alien + 4 Aliens (different ones)
    KDF-Eng Gorn + 4 Gorn
    Fedrom-Tac Romulan + 2 Rom, 1 Android, 1 Orion
Fed-Tac Human/Alien* + 4 Humans (Technically an alien, meant to be a human, I just modelled it after a guy I knew who killed the height limit)
    KDF-Sci Ferasan + 4 Ferasan
Klinkrom-Eng Reman + 1 each of Rom, Rem, Orion, Nausi
    Fed-Eng Andorian + 2 Andorian, 1 Aenar, 1 Android
KDF-Tac Lethean + 1 each of Android, Klingon, Orion, Romulan
Fedrom-Sci Alien + 1 each of Romulan, Nausicaan, Alien, Kobali
    Fed-Sci Benzite + 2 Humans, 1 Android, 1 Nausicaan
    KDF-Eng Orion + 3 Orions, 1 Human
Klinkrom-Tac Lib Borg Rom + 1 each of Gorn, Lethean, Reman, Human
    Fed-Tac Tellarite + 1 Andorian, 1 Tellarite, 1 Saurian, 1 Android
Fed-Eng Vulcan + 1 each of Klingon, Bolian, Andorian, Human
    Fed-Sci Andorian + 1 Rigelian, 1 Tellarite, 2 Humans
    Fed-Sci Tellarite + 4 Tellarites (all 23rd)
    Fed-Eng Human + 4 Humans (all 23rd)
    Fed-Tac Vulcan + 4 Vulcans (all 23rd)

My Romulan alts tend to be a bit purist, and my Reman has 3 Reman BOFF the rest Romulan

Mostly I just run a 'whatever comes happens to be handed to me' mix on my ships but, My Gorn has like 3 Gorn, and My Caitian has 3 Caitian. Would have done that with my Ferasan too but unlike Fedrats you cant get Ferasan for only Dil, you have to spend the 500z.

This reminds me of a discussion I had with a developer of a pretty successful role-playing game about the future.

He designed a wonderful world and it was very interesting but it only had two alien species in it. I asked him if he would make a source book with more alien races that humans would have encountered in the long time period represented by the game.

He never responded and continues to make Source books with more humans and humans and humans.

I find this sad because as I mentioned to him people didn't go to see Star Wars or Star Trek for the humans.

All my main's crew are aliens because that's what I always looked forward to while watching Star Trek, every week was a new alien encounter.

I'd have to look at my 4 mains. But I know my 4 main toons are: TOS Vulcan female ENG, FED Human male TAC, KDF Orion Female SCI, ROM Alien Male ENG.

Captain Human male, Boffs- Humans, Vulcan, Liberated Borg, Klingon, Trill

Captain Human Female, Boffs, mix of female species, 1 Male only forget species. May change up to rebuild similar to Voyager crew.

Captain Romulan, All Romulan boffs picked up from various colonies except for 1 Vulcan for reconcilation purposes.

Captain Bolian, Boffs mix of Bolian and Andorian. Will be picking up other species from the Alpha Quadrant as ship is stationed in that quadrant. Captain is married to several of the Bolian crew as the species practices polygamy. Andorians may be married in quads also. See what I get in boffs or what other Alpha quadrant boffs I pick from this or other characters.

Captain Klingon, Klingon Boffs? Character is only level 10 so I have to see what I get as I go along to rank 50. Thinking mix of Klingons and Orions? (Green humaniods) :)

less concerned with species as traits. my feds all have a Mr Potatohead for the pirate trait and a hologram Uhura for her trait that boosts damage. I try to get an efficient trait, if I have a second eng seat Scotty goes in for his space trait, and I try to get a leadership trait. have not really paid that much attention on the ground, currently toying with an android and a hologram, in this case Scotty again because of the ens level mortar.

Always a mix. I tend to have a lot of human characters becuase humans are obviously awesome, aside from that my crews are mixed.

In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

    Varied:

    I'K'rR'h = Pentaxian
    Her crew is very diverse

    T'Karra = TOS Vulcan
    Her crew is largely Andorian

    Illya = TOS Human
    His crew is primarily Human

    Marcus = 24th C Human
    His crew is mostly Human

    Q'sha = Klingon
    Her crew is primarily Klingon

The only species I specifically won't use, are Rigellians and Tellarites (because I don't like how they look) and Caitians, because I'm not a Furry, and frankly, their prevalence makes me uncomfortable... I suppose I ought to roll a Benzite for the lols...

Well I've 16 characters now so I won't detail the lot, TLDR :)

Suffice it to say that although I don't really RP here, I do try to have each ship and crew with a theme that makes some sort of sense according to STO's version of canon. My Romulans have Romulan crews, Remans have Reman crews, Klingons have Klingon crew, Feds are mostly human with a sprinkling of aliens etc. Two exceptions I'll detail below:

Orion 1: "Pirate" type, originally running an all-Orion crew except for a rescued ex-Borg Klingon and a renegade Trill first officer (my original KDF PC going back to the start of F2P and my only remaining character and crew with a background worked out which is why they get a bit of a mixture). Used to fly Orion ships, recently moved over to the new Klingon sci ship and getting most of the bridge crew replaced by KDF officers.

Orion 2: Runs a Korath timeship, seemed appropriate to have representatives from all the KDF species plus several of the available non-faction Boffs - Kobali, Krenim, blue faction officer (literally, Andorian :)) since we're supposedly one big happy family by then.

I am toying with the idea of turning one of my Feds into a spec ops/section 31/disavowed major cliche type and shoving it in the new Breen ship along with a right old mixture of oddballs for a bit of fun, Delta Flight/Renegades style. Gives me an excuse to use a load of the non-faction gear and personnel from various rewards and events.

For my Feds: Humans all the way for Leadership trait. If I can, Rom Embassy TAC BOFFs with Superior Romulan Operative.

For my KDF: Same as my Feds with Embassy BOFFs. The rest are Nausicaans with Pirate trait.

For my Roms: I have the DR Pack with the very strong Romulan BOFFs that comes with it. Anyways, I slot as much SRO Romulan BOFFs as I can with Standard and Superior Infiltrator. It helps that pack has a Reman with SRO+SI. I really love the power Rom faction characters get with their BOFFs.

The only space traits commonly found in the game's BOFFs outside Leadership and Pirate is Efficient, but that trait was rendered useless when Cryptic orbital-striked that trait into being pointless. Before that nerf, Efficient was highly desired and Lethean, Saurian BOFFs sold for good money. Now they're trash.

    Let's see...

    Fed Engineer:
    • Saurian (player)
    • Vulcan x2
    • Alien x2
    • Human x3
    • Saurian x1
    • Andorian x2
    • Ferengi x1

Though a lot of those I really don't care about (and I'm probably forgetting one or two of them!), I just haven't had a chance to replace them with a BOFF I actually care about. I'm now pushing forward with my "Team Space Lizards" plan, so I'll have to make sure I've got space someday for the Xindi-Reptilian, Voth, and Gorn BOFFs. Indeed, many of the mammals may find themselves on the chopping block.... except my fat, old, black Vulcan doctor. He hasn't served in Starfleet this long just to get replaced by some sexy young Saurian.

    Rom Tactical:
    • Romulan (player)
    • Human x1
    • Rigellian x1
    • Romulan x6ish
    • Reman x2
    • Jem'Hadar x1
    • Liberated Borg Reman x1

Actually pretty cool with how most of this crew has panned out. Mostly Romulans with a handful of Remans, and then a couple of "Federation liaisons". And from an RP perspective it makes a lot of sense: the Federation would want their own people aboard keeping an eye on things and helping bridge the gaps, and with the destruction of Romulus ships would probably need to outsource their manpower from other races to run efficiently. The result? The BOFFs, and DOFFs, are *mostly* Romulan, but we also have a smattering of Remans, Federation personnel, some Suliban, a single Hirogen, and whoever else we can find that's willing to pull their weight aboard.

I technically have two other characters, but I haven't used them in ages. No clue what all of their crew looks like.

A mix of humans, andorians, vulcans and liberated borg. There's also a couple betazoids, now that I think about it.

Strange thing isn't the composition of races, it's that upwards of 90% are female. And I did not do so intentionally.

    Fed (Sci):
    *Captain: Betazoid
    2 Human
    2 Vulcan
    2 Trill
    1 Orion

    RR (Eng) align KDF
    *Captain: Romulan
    4 Romulan (including Tovan)
    2 Orion
    1 Andorian
    1 Android

All the boff can specialise in everything as i use the same boff for all ships. (Sci/Int/Com/Temp/Pilot or Eng/Int/Com/Temp/Pilot or Tac/Int/Com/Temp/Pilot). Only added the other faction boff recently due to the alliance.

My fem toons on the other hand are Bajoran, Trill, Klingon, Andoian or Suliban (alien).
