Deep Space Encounters - randomized

Would you like to see Deep Space Encounters:
a: never close just as you reach them, make them stay open even if cleared already, making you a new instance
b: randomize the maps (background) and or lighting, my ship is always blue.
c: add more waves
d: make the instance entry point larger, may enter from 2 or 3km instead of 1.

    yes I like those improvements.
Some could have a skirmish where you get interrupted by a third party, an Azura situation, guarding an ally ship while they send an away team, or even something non-combat, like a repair job, or bottle episode.

Keep them like they are, I like them because you can just enter and kill stuff. Don't make it more complicated.

If you want to add random encounters, great. But lave the current ones alone. Though I'd make them more frequent, there should always be some on the map

needs to be re-invested into the game. This is for so many reasons essential to the essence of Star Trek, that I wouldn't have room in this whole forum to discuss it.

It's a critical aspect that is missing, having just been touched upon/ screwed up completely/ and removed.

Of course, it means more than just a quick in and out, pew-pew-pew, pve.

It would require a dedicated game engine to generate in-depth story and game content, which STO has already proven it lacks in general - both the engine and the content...

Question: Do the new DSE's actually give enough dil to be worth running?

240 per, plus mats or other bonus. 960 an hour isn't a bad number, and the encounters don't take a lot of effort. It's almost free dilithium.

    In other words, no.

I've been suggesting this for YEARS.

Have random encounters at random locations in sector space. They need not be the current bland combat encounters we see ad nauseam, they could be interesting missions with random elements, storms, distress calls (mundane or unusual), pirate attacks and so on.
And all the mechanical building blocks are already in place, as I understand... just look at Crystalline Cataclysm for some examples. The distress call, I imagine, has a couple of possible variants, involving an NPC ship spawned on the map, which players must defend/heal until it does one of two possible things:
    • restore its warp functionality and exit the map. Note: like player ships, it can only do so if red alert is not in effect;
    • get underway on impulse, meaning players must escort to an exit point at the edge of the map.
In both cases, accomplishing the objective is worth bonus rewards, scaling depending on the NPC's health at that point.

Another possible complication would be the chance of a Na'kuhl or Krenim kill team inviting themselves to the party.

One of the big issues, and well-remembered oddities, of the old Exploration system were things such as the 3rd Borg Empire and such (I've gotten the name wrong, but the essence is correct). It's part of the excuse they used to pull it out of the game - the creation of things that simply wouldn't happen in Star Trek.

Though with a good writer anything is possible. :)

There are a lot of threads on this subject from both before and after the system was removed.

    Still... I wouldn't mind playing in the sandbox for a while.. = ^.^ =

lots of things could be vastly improved in this game with some decent procedural generation.
