Most ships can be bought on the exchange for EC. That is a much better way to get a ship than opening lock boxes.

Lock boxes have a 1 in 250 chance of giving a ship, while on PC 30 lock boxes sold on the exchange for EC will get you enough credits to buy an Infinity Lockbox ship.

I have the yen to grab a store ship... its just so much more fulfilling to win a ship.

Hey all! So no luck on the ship front lol... still recieved some great gear and special skills. I've almost got enough to just buy a ship now.

Its a bit of a grind but on ps4 I have 1 bil ec cap so I'm good to go.

To anyone on the same journey, if its just a ship you want, buy it with zen. If its the adventure your looking for... well keep frosty. I see alot of winners around the quarter hour marks.

Having trouble understanding how it's so much more fulfilling to win a ship than to buy it for a fraction of the price.

I only do lockboxes for a bit of gear to flog on/keep. Logic stops me from opening hundreds of boxes (and spending hundred of euros) for a single ship, a ship which is just as good as the ships you pick up for 30 quid from the Zen Store.

Thanks for the posts. I agree it is better just to buy a ship.

From a gambling point of view (why people buy lock boxes...) the win is huge, when you win you brain releases endorphens giving you quite an enjoyment and feeling of well being... This is what makes gambling so addicting.

Lock boxes also remive the capability to get 100% of all in game ships making another challenge for the completionists.

I can't really call it "gambling" as you are only "winning" a bit of electrical content for a game and a VERY small bit at that if anything, the only logial thing I can see buying at that price, is the LTS during sale time. If STO shuts down tomorrow, you can't take that bit of purchased content with you. So applying logic, why spend 250 quid for something that you can get from the C-store for 30? Yes the ship aesthetics are different, but really, I cannot see anyone justifying this expenditure.

if you want to gamble, then hit a casino. At least that way you have a chance of winning something "real".

Oh I agree, I open only 10 lockboxes at a time,as i'm interested in the gear, not the ships, however, this thread is actually all about the OP wanting to get a lockbox ship from a lockbox, hence the subject matter is regarding the ships, not the rest of the goodies in lockboxes.

My personal yield after >1200 lock boxes is about 2.5%, and 4 out of 5 of those were only MU (T5 - not upgradeable) ships. I have always viewed lock box ships as icing on the cake; at least even the MU ships yield an Admiralty ship now.

Absolutely.

There are plenty of people who do it to get lobi crystals, or mining claims or just to chance their luck if they have some spare zen.

If you're going for a specific ship or piece of gear it's always better to just go buy it off the exchange but if you're opening boxes for other reasons and win a ship then it's a bonus.
The reason that advice is given is because every so many days we get someone thread pop up whining about opening a bazillion boxes and getting no ship. People need to realise what they are getting into with lockboxes. Thankfully the OP seems to be fully aware and is having fun in the game so good on them!

If you want everything in a lock box including mining claims, or if you need a bit of lobi for the lobi store then yes.

Bur if you want something specific like a space weapon box or a beam array from an opened box with EC, those are open much cheaper than a lock box key. You can often get 3-5 weapon boxes instead of 1 key, or 5-10 beam arrays that don't have "perfect" mods.

If you want everything, open boxes. If you want something specific, buy with EC.

I would love to win a ship, that would be fantastic.

Honestly when I started all I was going for was the ships. After 20 lockboxes I was upset and miserable. Angry even, then I tried the herald boxes. Much better gear and the chance at a pretty cool looking herald ship.

Now I've got a decent pack of zen. Saving enough to buy a ship and waiting for the black friday sale. All is good.

Still, wish there were more plasma weapons as I'm loving my plasma build at the moment.

Keep calm and trek on.

Plasma weapons? Nah, too many of them. i think we need more antiproton weapons, especially as reputation items, as I just don't think we have enough antiproton variants.

Come on Cryptic, we need more antiproton!

So..... doing the dailys for my duty officers and got a t6 elachi ship as a reward.

There are some display issues in the admiralty area for using it in other missions. But hey. Free ship I'm cool.
I will get some pics....

Alright it just a ship for doing admiralty missions. Lol... i tried to actuvate it and no ship. Still it has greatbstats for admiralty missions.
