when u activate a buff, a sci buff +8 for example...what does the 8 affect?

    so for example if a tachyon beam III takes 650 shield away from target and the buff is active it would be 658? does it affect any of the time active or recharge?

    No, it buffs your captain skill tree. The wiki says for level 3:

    +20 Starship Shield Restoration
    +20 Starship Drain Expertise
    Reduces Damage to Shields by 36%

    That's +20 to your skill. You need to look at that skill in captain skills or the wiki to see what the effect is.

    dave this isnt what i am asking about...i want info on the sci buff you buy from the quartermaster at the fleet starbase. thanks

    What is the exact name of the buff? What does the wiki say it does when you search using that name?

    so..if a sci buff is +8...what is that applied to? shields for example..its adds 8 to max shield amount? +8 shield regeneration?

    That article is from before the skills revamp, but it does say it was a skills buff like Science Fleet:

    The skills improved by these consumables are:
    Starship Flow Capacitors, Starship Shield Emitters, Starship Power Insulators, Starship Shield Systems, Starship Graviton Generators, Starship Particle Generators, Starship Internal Dampers, Starship Sensors, Starship Countermeasure Systems, Starship Subspace Decompilier, Medic, Physiology, Scientist, Probability Logistics, Willpower, Particle Physics

    So, +8 to the new skill tree skills, not +8 to shield hit points. Though having 10,008 shield points instead of a lousy 10,000 is definitely worth spending fleet credits on ;)
