I'm leaning toward that 5th design myself.... The third one is a bit too Cylon for me tho

Interesting argument, I actually like the fifth design for its resemblence to an '03 Cylon Raider (along with the Goa'uld 'Death Glider' from Stargate and WH40k's Necron 'Doom Scythe).

The fifth, you mean that Son'a wanna-be?

THANK YOU I was having a major brain fa rt and couldn't place why that ship looked so familiar!

I chose Alpha. Trek and STO both have interesting swept-wing starship designs already. I like the "classic UFO" look of the Alpha candidate as a different direction.

    I choose Attack Pattern: Alpha.

I think that part of the purpose of this ship designing is to define a style for an original species that has no existing ships to base designs on.

Alpha looks a lot like a Goa'uld Al'Kesh from Stargate SG1... but I like it more than Beta.

I love the sweeping Delta Wing design of the Team Bravo ship, but in game the Team Alpha Arrowhead design should skin better and look more substantial.

They look like the UFOs people see. I wonder if there is gonna be a space set in the next episodes like the breen or dyson and are they going to have there own type of weapons I'm thinking lockbox weapons

I like them all. The ufologist in me are quiet gitty with these choices. o:) Alpha reminds me highly of a UFO I seen about a year or two ago, Bravo reminds me of the Phoenix Lights craft from 1997....kudos to you, on the designing teams <3 And they all look far more advanced than a lot of the high tier end stuff we got, now.

Cookies for the design team, yo!

Bravo just has too much of a "aft swept instead of forward swept" wing vibe ala Romulan T'varo. It also looks too ... atmospheric/aerodynamic ... which isn't exactly a Star Trek motif with ships, regardless of faction. There's also nothing in the design shape suggestive of a "this is where the warp coils go" which is an extremely important design feature for pretty much EVERY ship.

Alpha looks more ... purposeful ... to me, and certainly more in tune with a "new spacefaring" race's attempt to break in to warp drive technology. Curiously, the Alpha design has an element that feels more reminiscent of the "ring drive" of the Vulcan D'Kyr, except that it's one oriented in the plane of the ship rather than at right angles. This then opens up a very curious set of possibilities.

Let's say that for the sake of argument/illustration, that under impulse drive the ship flies "flat" with one side of the triangle (the curved bit) being the Impulse Drive. But that under warp drive, the ship changes its drive orientation perpendicular to the impulse direction and the dorsal side of the ship points "forward" in the direction of flight. That would then mean that the 3 rounded circular bits on the dorsal surface we can see in the Alpha image would be the Bussard Collectors, and then the small dark triangles on the blunted tips of the "triangle wings" would be a triple redundant Deflector system for use when flying at warp speeds. The rounded bulge in the center of the ship then becomes Main Engineering and the Matter/Anti-matter tank fuel storage, and the ring feature around it is the warp drive. This then puts all of the crew spaces into the three "wing triangles" with the parts attached in the "circular divots" on the port/starboard sides being what amount to reconfigurable "mission modules" that can be quickly and easily swapped out depending on the mission parameters, since the Lukari are going to need to be testing/proving all kinds of technology. Think of these as being the "external cargo" space that allows the ship to be different things at different times (in other words, a Cruiser or a Science Vessel or an Escort variant, as needed, so as to get "3 ships in 1" in effect).

Alpha also speaks to a simpler construction/manufacturing process geared more towards mass production using a common architecture, such that you don't have to develop "handed" (left/right) versions of the same stuff to put into different parts of the ship. Everything gets done on a symmetrical trilateral basis for the internals which better fits with the more limited industrial capacities of the people building the ship. Less "fancy" and more "practical" in the design.

I love it when a totally new design comes out, when one can' figure out what does what....when, as Doug Drexler calls it, the "ape brain" needs to be cast aside, since this is not going to be a typical nuts and bolts way of doing it.....might have another highly advanced species helping these guys out making it. I hope it will be glossy/shiny with gorgeous glowing lights.

Love the classic x-files ufo look of alpha.

Seen one of those in person about a year ago in the night sky about a year ago where I live.

    Was pretty awesome.

Ship C is a UFO for all intent and purposes when we get to vote, ship D is sort of like a door handle.
    Between A and B ,i chose the cheese triangle/mint triangle ship A.

The Lukari are designing their first starship amidst the conflict between two factions; one vying for an exploration ship and one vying for military purposes. It's the same old story and unless you're building a tiny robotic probe, military application always wins. I would agree that their first ship should appear on the smaller and somewhat simple side, much like the NX class did, but the Lukari are not building from scratch. The alliance is helping them with the designs. So now the decisions include viewpoints from every alliance culture. Klingons will favor a military design, Vulcans favor exploration designs, Romulans favor covert designs and might offer a cloaking device and of course, the Ferengi will sell them anything they want. Its a tough call.

Ignoring the plot for a moment and thinking only of what I might toss Zen at...well, the truth is I wouldn't toss Zen at any of them. The choice appears to be a flying wing of one shape or another no matter what wins. And the last three options simply look like someone took apart a Ferengi vessel and is trying to fly the components individually.

Let's take a look through the experience of someone who went through this dilemma decades ago; Matt Jeffries.
He was concerned that the Enterprise was going to appear to be the corny flying saucer of the '50's sci-fi and added a secondary hull and propulsion nacelles to end up at the Icon we all love so much. I think the single-hull design presented to us on this event needs to draw upon that same experience again. Lets face it, about the only culture that flies around space without an obvious engineering/propulsion section is the Borg. Lets not have the Lukari emulate that culture.

Personally, I think it's time to evolve in ship designs.....one thing I notice in Trek, the technology seems to be....rather stagnant from DS9 onward. Time to go outside the box. Hell, with this new design, and with advanced alien technology, the engines could be the size of a breadbox, and the hull being ether grown or woven on, maybe even organic materials being integrated with the ship itself, becoming a living thing. That's a reason I love Tholians so much, because their technology seems quite different from typical "trek tech". There seems very few solid control areas in them, just a few panels made of light, I would not be surprised if most Tholian technology would operated by merely touching a part of the ship and merely thinking what you want it to do......Like Clint Eastwood's FIREFOX, but far, far more advanced than what that film crudely was depicting.

I can't wait to get one of these, whichever one wins. Any of the choices I'll be most pleased with.

    ~patiently awaits the results~ B)

So what you're saying is that we're designing the next generation of weather balloons and swamp gas?
If you buy that sad, arms in the air, government stooge explanation.

I like the triangle tip edges at the back of the 4th design (nearer to the bottom of the webpage). I like elements of the third designs top, however the 3rd designs rear looks a little too circular, but I still wouldn't mind that. I like the 6th design, although the top seems more like a space station or other orbital facility/beacon.
Edit: The 5th design also looks similar to orbital structures in sins of the solar empire. Or could be a fighter or even a shuttle.

There is a gameplay factor many do not consider, in a heated battle if you are flying triangle, you will have hard time identifying at which direction you are turning, it will be very confusing.

The bravo team's design doesn't have this problem, playing with their design will be much more enjoyable.

the direction you are traveling in would be the front, I say. :) I also like it since it would be hard someone to flank a triangle. ;)

Bravo for me, Was thrown a bit by the fact that the top down view is oriented down, but, I still vote bravo.

At least there is no obvious winner this time around...

Alpha, so that Triangle Man can meet Particle Gens... except the song is really old and the Skill isn't called that anymore...

They are both amazing designs, but i slightly prefer Alpha. It's details and appearance are very stylish. I like Beta too, but as said earlier, we've got so many swept-wing designs, it would feel more of a knock-off design than anything else. It is a tough choice though, kudos to the design team!
  • freightstopperfreightstopper Member Posts: 232 Arc User
didn't vote as there is no option for "not interested in either design".

Both look like they had a run in with an industrial press, alpha looks like something the Borg would do and Beta looks to be upside down.

The skill went from "Particle Generators" to "Exotic Particle Generators". Easy enough to skip the exotic...

Though to fit that song, Markhawkman is on the right track... :)
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I thought team Bravo had a design you'd expect more from a RACE new to Starship design with FRESH perspectives and far less like anything else we've yet seen in the game. With them new to exploring the star's one would think they'd want something fast, nimble, yet able to defend itself if required.

They don't seem like the Klingons or Andorians like someone else pointed out earlier... They may even have a similar mindset to perhaps what Vulcan's might contemplate with a focus on SCI used to aid exploration. That would be a heavier investment in SCI to aid in discovery as they venture out from their home planet followed by moderate TAC & ENG abilities to support their adventure in space travel.

Still both are overall unique and very nice designs.

    ^ This.

I was about to vote Alpha for the UFO style, but the profile is way too flat.

The curved design of Bravo makes it the most original of all, so I'll probably keep voting it if it does pass the turn.

I still dream from time to time about using the Gateway to doff off-game in spare minutes as we were told

To be honest I like the Saucer shaped one, Gives it a very UFO feel. Something out of POP culture making it's way into STO. That is not star trek based.
