I created a 23rd character this past double xp bonus weekend thinking life was going to be grand as a temporal agent. Now that my character is level 59, I started looking into the rewards and options. And then it hit me, nothing has been gained...
This is really going to TRIBBLE me off if I just invested so much time thinking the rewards was there for this stupid grind. Please tell me I just missed something in the game and not the time window?

Temporal Agent Recruits only applies to TOS captains created between July 6th and August 17th. TOS captains must complete all 6 missions in the TOS era ending with the mission "The Battle of Caleb IV" when they are thrusted into the 25th century before the event ended. It is only during this time period when you will receive the temporal transponder in your inventory which allows you to be a Temporal Agent.
I forgot who gave players the transponder... it might have been Daniels... But is don't matter in your case since.
Thanks Cryptic for not making it clear! Now to find a dev to apply an agonizer to them...
They really need to post a warning, even thou you talk to "temporal agents" and you become a "temporal agent", you are not a freaking temporal agent!
It was perfectly clear if you read the announcements. You can't create a Delta Recruit now either, nor can you do the Summer T6 starship event at Risa, or stop the Mirror Universe invasion. All of these events have start and end dates that are listed.
The wiki also clearly lists the start and end dates: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Temporal_Agent_Recruitment
Did you hear about Temporal Recruits in chat and then level a TOS captain all the way to 59 without bothering to do any homework at all? And without bothering to ask anyone for details?
To be fair the official announcement was not very clear when the opportunity to create a Temporal Agent would end.

While the announcement did state the launch of the event (July 6th), "For a limited time" is rather vague. Continuing to read through the announcement, the next time anything was mentioned that was related to a time frame is the following which basically only talks about potential server wide bonuses.
Unfortunately, nowhere in the official announcement did it clearly state when the opportunity to create a temporal agent would ended. I suppose you can infer that when the six week of potential shard wide bonuses end the recruitment period would end as well, but that is an assumption.
Players should not need to go to other sources to find out when an event ends. The official announcement should have stated both the start date and the end date. Therefore, I have to side with the OP that Cryptic did drop the ball on this event for not being perfectly clear on the end date.
> Now that my character is level 59, I started looking into the rewards and options.
I am really disappointed by Cryptic for following this new precedent of offering an event and not allowing it to obtain any other way later. Cryptic has no qualm ticking off it's customers with events that help alienate it's players. Started this last winter with the Winter event not allowing previous ships and following events have followed that same mold.
I quit this game due to stress being created in a fleet back in January. I feel Cryptic has offered some OP items while I was gone and yeah, I have only myself to blame now. Doesn't feel good and I looked at Steam charts and I'm not the only one feeling the burn I suppose.
No reason now to play my 23c character except to farm credits/dilithium with. Overall, I really enjoy the game. I just wish Cryptic would become a little wiser in how they promote events and bullet proof themselves. Yeah, that's like wishing for the bugs that have been around since day one to be fixed lol.
Time to pull out the whisky, relax and think out what to do in the game for fun now...
Well, an "event" in of itself is implied to only last for a specific period and not something that lasts year round... otherwise it would not be an event.
The reasons for events is for metric purposes as a way to increase the number of active accounts and / or increase the number of people playing the game on a daily basis for a period of time. I suppose after diving through the numbers Cryptic determined that allowing players to get ships from older events skew their numbers. Players would either skip an event knowing that they can potentially grind for it the next year. Or use excess tokens from the prior year's event to get the Event Ship quicker. In both cases that would be players are not participating in the event as much as Cryptic would like.
Yes, it does suck that Cryptic took away the opportunity to claim older Winter and Summer Event Ships, but at least they offered consolation prizes for turning in tokens that would soon expire. I guess I am not bitter about that because even though I started playing STO in January 2014, I was able to claim all the Winter and Summer Event Ships.
It should not be forgotten that Cryptic made one significant change that benefited all players , especially those with many captains and that is the account-wide unlock on all claimed Event Ships which was retroactive. I only have one captain that actually claimed the Solanae Dyson Science Destroyer back in February 2014. I created a 2nd captain on my account, but there was not enough time to get all the tokens necessary to claim the Solanae DSD. That ship is currently available to all my captains including my AoY captain. This upcoming Winter Event, all I need to do is have one captain do the "Fastest Game On Ice" daily activity to eventually claim the Event Ship for all 10 of my captains, rather than running it 10 times a day for 25 day on all my captains so that everyone will get the ship.
Any new characters would need to wait until the next Anniversary / Winter / Summer and then grind EVERY SHIP. In fact you'd have to pick which ship to grind, and maybe (if you skipped 0 days) be able to grind part of a second ship to get the next year.
With the new system, my TOS captain had a pile of event ships waiting for him when he reached 40 -- 4 x Breen, Kobali, Kremin, Ferengi, ... he was full of ship.
I don't understand how a newly created character this summer can obtain ships that could not be obtain?!? Doesn't TOS = AOY in STO?
Previous winter events were a simple thing really for alts/new characters, you didn't have to grind all 1000 tokens, you just needed, if I remember correctly, 40 tokens. Which was only one race per ship you wanted, again from the Winter event I am referring to.
But that is the past and should be forgotten since we have new and improved, wait, gotta get it now, future! If you weren't there, well, sucks to be you. Yeah, the future is looking, well, dark... I'm predicting event time windows are also going to shrink to force more urgency to be played for the future. Seems like Perfect World is having more and more impact on how this game is going to be played.
For Winter 2014-15 they made the change of only needing to do the full grind for one character then 1 ice race for every other character, but I think that's when they also warned about no longer being able to get old ships.
I think it was Summer 2015 when they made all ships (that you had to grind for) retroactively account-wide unlocks and reclaimable by every character including new ones created later.
Without the Summer 2015 account-wide retroactive unlock happened, my TOS captain would not have been able to get any of the ships that I had earned for other characters right away.
Under the Winter 2014-15 system he would have needed to wait for Winter then do one ice race per ship to get the Winter ships. Then wait for the next Anniversary event and do one daily for each Anniversary ship. Then wait for Summer and do one sky race per ship. That doesn't sound terrible except for needing to wait up to a year. Except that assumes Cryptic would still have let you get old ships which they were already saying was being dropped.
Under the "golden age" system before Winter 2014-15, where you could always get old ships, the TOS captain would need to wait for each event then do a full 15 or 25 day grind per ship.
It wasn't clearly stated that way in the ARC news blurb, but the logo for Agents of Yesterday was a clear signal that those lockboxes would be for the PC crowd only. That plus the fact that the Kelvin lockbox had only replaced the Cardassian one a week previously on consoles.
We are talking about a company here that barely acknowledged the 50 year anniversary of Star Trek.
No special load screen with a big number 50, no fireworks, no exploding stars into debris spelling out the numeral "50".
Bupkus, apart from the 23rd century pack give-away.
You can bet your hiney, if WoW is still around during Warcrafts 50 year anniversary there'll be the number
50 spelled out in orc corpses somewhere between the AH and the bank in Orgrimmar.
When the 2014 Winter Wonderland event was about to start Cryptic changed the rules for Event Ships as follows:
#1 - One captain must obtain all 1,000 vouchers in order to claim the Event Ship (the T6 Breen Carrier in this case).
#2 - Other captains on the account will only need 40 vouchers to claim the same Event Ship once #1 has been fulfilled.
#3 - At this point in time all Event Ships that players have claimed from past events are now account unlocked.
#4 - Vouchers are now unique to the current event and can no longer be used for future events. In the past vouchers earned during the 2013 Risa Summer Event could be carried over and used for the 2014 Risa Summer Event. That is no longer the case. These old vouchers are now considered "expired" / "invalid".
#5 - The old vouchers could be traded in (for a limited) for consolation prizes with a choice between different crafting material packages (which included Salvaged Tech) or different types of upgrade kits.
I believe as of the 2015 Risa Summer event Cryptic did away with #2 from above. Once a captain claimed the Event Ship, then all captains on the account were able to immediately claim it.
