Ironically, if it were not for the endgame grind, I would probably play this game more.

For the past few years I have played STO off and on, usually when there is a major content update. Several of those times I've thought that I'd finally really get into the game and stick with it. I usually play through the new story episodes and some of the other new/old content and then it hits me, grinding all these reputations and upgrading gear is going to take forever. Now, I know it's not necessary to have the best gear and such, but I want to at least feel like I'm significantly contributing in the team instances, it's human nature. How many reputations do we need? In my opinion, it's getting ridiculous. When are they going to stop? At 15? 20? 30?. Having a ship and blowing stuff up is fun in and of itself but having all these other click fests and time wasters push me away from the game every single time I return. I could go on and on but in short, I would prefer more content, and less grind. Or even, just less grind, that would be good enough.

You only need to do a rep if you want the gear from it or a trait from it, so no need to grind most of them. Problem solved.

Spend $5 worth of zen for 200,000 dil. Spend another $5 for 20 million EC to spend on superior tech upgrades. Problem solved.

I only do the reps because they are a huge block of free dil. If you don't enjoy them then don't do them. You can easily have solid dps without maxing all reps and you only need one set of weapons and gear.

There is only a grind if you inflict it on yourself.

Completely agree. You get to 60, get done with the episodes then the rest of your STO life is grind the same old boring stuff over and over.

Or if you hate all of the available content, take a break. Play something else. Read a book. Watch Longmire, there's a new season.

Now, now guys there is no need to resort to insults just because you don't agree with the OP.

I kinda see the point of the OP, there is a lot of grinding and there is always that push to get more stuff and do more DPS just to stay competitive. That can be offputting to the more casual players.
But it is an mmo and that's what happens in mmos so we just have to get used to it. Once you're top level though you can pretty much do what you want though, you don't have to follow the masses and grind non stop.

If I enjoyed the experience of getting to 60, almost quite there with a couple of characters by the way, (and I have enjoyed the game); and then if everything subsequently just felt like it was becoming a grind - I would simply delete that playthrough and just start another!!

All MMOs are actually MMOGFs (Grind Fests) once you hit top level/complete all the mission/story arcs. STO has options.

Although it is a bit repetitive (okay, more than just a bit), you have 3 factions, with 3 careers, and 3 basic ship types available. That means there are 3x3x3=27 different ways to play this game, and that's if you don't count the different races (with different traits) within each faction.

Start a new toon (delete one you hardly ever play anyway if need be) and play through the entire story arc using a faction/career/ship type you haven't done yet, take an existing toon and try to collect all the accolades available, as already suggested play the hundreds of Foundry missions.

STO has a lot of play options other than just "grinding". To paraphrase someone else, it's only a grind if you decide to make it so.
    LTS and loving it.

If you really want to max reps as efficiently as possible you only have to do it the hard way with a single toon. Thanks to the sponsorship system you can double the XP gains of all subsequent characters. When a new rep appears I just have my main grind it, when maxed I crank out sponsorship tokens so that all my other toons can do it in half the time while consuming half as many marks.

That's not true at all. Things like Everquest, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV aren't even close to being massive "grind fests."

Games like Neverwinter Online (a self described OMG), No Man's Sky (nothing but solo content grind) and Star Wars Galaxies are examples of failure-filled epic level of grind festivals. But a game like LOTRO or EQ? Nah. Way off base. They don't have much in the way of any kind of fest.

    ;)

Those who say the word "grind" in STO havent played any mmo b4 lol. There is no grind in STO. Sure, it's annoying the rep cycle is 20hr, but there is no grind to fill up the rep. Do an STF once a day and have more than enough to fill the rep. In fact, unless you want the rep gears, you only need to do a stf 3x a week. If you call that a grind, you should stick to FSP or other genres lol.
