Why no Console Forums?

atuellissatuelliss Member Posts: 1 Arc User
So I joined the Xbox One STO community on release day and noticed there really isn't anywhere to go to connect with other players without having to be in a Fleet.

Not cool.

Any plans to update the site with these options?

More threads here are dedicated to console griping and complaining and noob questions that pc people cant even help on because of bugs or differences.
This has turned into the console forums. Question now is can PC players get a PC forum?

You better mind us old timers, whipper snapper! When we tell you dang console kids to get off our lawn, you best get!

Welcome to the forums, though. I suppose there's enough crossover between PC and Console to justify a unified forum. I'm sure the amount of griping about bugs (which @officerbatman81 is at least a bit right about) will die down as they get to push a few patches. Give Cryptic a break, we've certainly seen other console game releases go way way worse.

As for connecting with players, OP, do give the forums a fair chance. This is actually a really good community of folks, I've found. Lots of humor and acceptance.

Getting in a flap about the apparent 'lack' of a console forum is pointless. You are posting in a General Discussion thread after all. There really isn't the need for seperate platform forums seeing that once the console platforms are fully up and running the discussions will all be the same for the same things.

Try the STO subreddit. You can tag a post as Console, PS4 or XBox and get in touch with only those people you want to.

It's baffling that they STILL can't manage to make a console forum. Many of us have asked, and no one has listened.

And lets not all get on the Console players, it's not their fault either. They post here because no other option is provided.

For the most part, the only place you'd really need subforums for consoles are the support and recruitment. Everything about the gameplay should, for the most part, be the same and should be able to be answered by anyone that plays the game.

What did you guys expect from PWE? Perfection?

The game is always on life support, making it just barely and now they opened up a new platform with no planning whatsoever but hoping they can get rich in the short term.

If they cannot even create a subforum for Console what makes you think they can even have the infrastructure to run 2 platforms adequately at the same time?tiger-11.gif

Neverwinter has multi-platform sub forums, so it's a PWE issue, I'd guess its because the CM doesn't want to replicate(easily btw) them. Make of that what you will.
    Definitely not an Arc User.

Meh, I don't see the need for separate forums. I think everyone should be welcome here.

No they won't becaue there are some differences that won't be going away and the codebases will ALWAYS be slightly different as Cryptic deplys patches faster to the PC version.

Also Neverwinter HAS separate PC and Console - and separation would help the Devs better discern quickly if what a player is talking about is a Console bug or a PC bug. It really shows a total lack of foresight on the part of Cryptic's Community management team.

Really should be a console forum as we have currently 45-60% of the game? And no announcement or release schedule for when the content will be brought up to par. Neverwinter released in a similar fashion (60% of the PC game) and it took them year+ to get them on par...

I don't see any indication that this will be any different

Another reason we need two forums, different calendars/events and products/sales.

All the console people were talking about the crystalline cataclysm event when no such event was here. So we are on separate calendars.

You can do that already by selecting the platform on the news page.

but you can't promise him the keys to the barn and expect him to stay out the barn. not sure of that made sense but the console version has been out for 1month and we still don't have an offical forum to discuss the console version yet. so we have to use the pc forum for now

Yeah okay, lets all try selecting the platform and see if the forum gets magically divided.

Or you could take a few seconds and look at the news feed and see that it is listed as PC, Xbox or PS4. I know you have the correct skill to do that because you were able to read my previous post. You just have to learn to have the patience to wait the 3-4 seconds for the page to reload.

But we're not talking about the news feed are we? People like to discuss ongoing events for some reason on the forums.

i bet that if pwe choose to split the forums, two months later half the people asking for the split start complaining the game is dead and use as evidence the short population spime post console launch and how quiet the forums got after.

and i have to admit they salty whining of people accusing pwe of not being capable of splitting the forums amuses me enough to hope they keep choosing not to for a long time. But mostly i hope we keep unified forums because i like helping new players and i like all the activity the console players have brought.

It's not an issue of inclusiveness, no one is saying that one platform is better or worse then the other.

The issue is that they're vastly different. Each platform has it's own set of questions and answers and putting everything into one forum just makes a huge mess. Splitting the forums gives players of both platforms a quicker and easier way to get the information they need without having to sift through pages of topics that are of no benefit or interest to them.

Cryptic has made it a point to keep the Console and PC worlds of STO separate, there is no good reason not to follow this same idea when it comes to the forums.

There is a also a ton of overlap on questions. And in that overlap region, PC players are qualified very well to provide helpful answers.

I think there should be a control/UI related subforum for consoles, though, since there are very strong differences and a PC only player really can't answer these well. (Though I try to keep track of such answers, I forgot most of this stuff, since I have not even touched a console controller in years, and certainly not a recent one.)

Pretty much this. Besides tech complaints the biggest topic for Xbox/PS4 related threads I've seen has been "how do I do X?" or "what's the deal with Y?" With PC players here there's no doubt those questions can be answered quickly.
