    regardless you ignored the other part...which is the TIMING of the data sent. Unless you have data from both computer beging sent off to the exact same location at the exact same time...guess what, they don't take the exact same route.
    Lol, no.
    If the timing was that important as you try it to portray - the traceroutes to Cryptic servers would have produced different routes each time. Which doesn't simply happen. In the recent year I had just once the route to Cryptic servers change - the Cogent hubs were partially replaced by Telia hubs, but a month or two later it went to business as usual.

    WAAAAAAYYY Back at the beginning of this thread someone said " SNR when going to fleet base and on certain maps" Well, I did some studying and found a possible reason.
    Not ALL maps in STO are being generated by the server ALL the time. Some maps which are never in use are shutdown, or in standby mode, or whatever you want to call it mode until someone enters them. I get SNR almost every time I enter my fleet base, because that is one of the maps that the server must " on demand generate". Now since running my Agents of Yesterdays Cornbread through the old mission ive discovered that SNR show up much more often on the older missions than the new ones. My hypothesis is this: If a map is not accessed by a player after a certain amount of time, that map gets shutoff by the server to save resources. The next time the map IS accessed the server must generate the map. Apparently some maps take around 30 seconds to a minute to generate, hence the SNR because it doesn't know what to do with you.
    Does that have anything to do with people getting disconnected from ESD or sector space? Likely not. However, it COULD explain SOME of the spikes in SNR people are seeing. Its simply the server having to generate maps it normally has shut down, and using resources to do it takes a little time.
    Then again,, I could be COMPLETELY wrong.. who knows,, stranger things have happened....

    OK I'm not going to continue posting here, too many people eager to argue without bothering first to read the detailed explanations given in the post, I assumed I was speaking with adults but it seems school is out. Just going to finish on this: Cryptic has and has always had an issue with SNRs, disconnects, account server login issues etc, it's nothing new, sometimes it's better for a while, other times it gets worse again. Whatever the reason I doubt we will see an improvement unless the situation becomes untenable.

    +1 to this..

    In your earlier post you listed:

    7 311 ms 303 ms 307 ms 182.79.222.237

    8 323 ms 321 ms 321 ms nyiix1.voxel.net [198.32.160.128]

    and stated the ones in bold are in India. Your jump in latency is between steps 6 and 7..which is in India, halfway around the world from the servers. Heck, the jump across the ocean barely added 15ms to your trip time and you'll notice that from steps 10 to 15, there were no issues.

    True, it does jump..

    Ok has cryptic ditched COGENT??????????? Cause now I can connect to STO and patch so freakishly fast since the since the 19th/20th and the SNR's have gone and so are the DC's..Also in the tracert I dont see COGENT no more on the past coupe of traces I did..Will monitor this for another week and update..But has cryptic ditched COGENT???????????

    People still play this game? Ive been checking in from time to time to see if they are preparing to launch a new expansion. A real expansion, like a Cardassian faction. The TOS story arc does not count. When I level up that new fed toon with the TOS theme, the servers seemed fine.

    What defines a "real" expansion?

    And you are aware that if they ever do a Cardassia faction, that it would be like the ToS characters, where you get 5-6 "exclusive" missions before joining up with either the Feds or Klinks?

    Don't ever expect a Cardassian Faction, since they've pretty much been used up by the star trek official films/shows. Besides, it'd just be a Dominion off-shoot branch, even considering that they've broken (partly) away from that group.They're more of an 'enemy' race as far as STO is currently concerned; no different than the Breen.

    As for a "Full Expansion"... I'm assuming that by defininition you are reaching past the '40hour to 31day' standard used by most video games for their entire game concept, and instead want something that grasps the 'Full Year of Gameplay' theory without ever touching upon the old STO content. Unfortunately, this would mean things like a minimum of 50% new and original game development not before seen in use by STO. Examples would include:
    - an equal or greater number of storyarcs/missions as already exist in the game;
    - high-quality full cinematic features/in-game movies or feature-length cinemas;
    - several new playable factions and enemy factions - with ALL THAT ENTAILS (list whatever the hell you want here);
    - new space maps as large or larger than the one currently in use;
    - new side games, such as Admiralty/Doffs/R&D/Fleet/etc.;
    - New complete list of PVE features;
    - elimination of the 3 poorly develped pvp features;
    - Pest-control applied to known bugs infestations;
    - revamped randomly generated interactions: missions, events, stories, relationships, wars/battles/pirates/etc., aliens, planets, etc (removed from old STO due to flawed development, even though the concept was sound and desirable);
    - Full character development strategies: meaning what you do/choose to do affects not only the direction your game will go (classic good/evil), but also determines what faction you actually belong to;
    - game evolves as you do - catch 22: like the 23c storyline, as you advance past major story/game points, you'd be locked-out of pre-point areas. (this is standard in 'story-driven' games, which STO is not);
    - New active research and development story-lines/game play - just look at any MMO that makes you find people to teach you things and learning how to do them, while grinding for supplies, instead of what STO currently has, which primarily lacks character interactivity in STO;
    - 3d space environement revamp: full manuverability (no vertical stops); active/realistic space battle/interaction developlment; sphereical space environment instead of narrow/flat space used now, etc.;
    - Personal ship development (which ignores that military peions don't design their own ships) through R&D, relic discovery, merchantile trade, and out-right pirating, amongst other things;
    - character side-jobs: inventing new things, and so on...
    - AND MORE!

    Now, lets look at the price tag for this...
    *picks up the tag on the box for the new game and shows it the the admin, who promptly dies of a heart attack*

    Oh. And I forgot to mention the 2-5 years it would take to actually pull all this together into a viable game product, which is what a 'true expansion' is, since those can be played as a 'COMPLETELY SEPERATE GAME'...

    Edit: Oops! I left out the fact that Cryptic would need an entirely new game engine. Not to mention that with this much effort, then they'd also need to upgrade all of the graphics and functions of the game itself to at least the quality of say 'Metal Gear: Solid', which would mean that anyone with less than a Windows 10 Alienware maxed out on its videocard sdram would be immediately unable to play the game. Of course, the next issue would have to do with being able to connect to STO and speed that up, which would mean that all the 'downloadable content' would have to be preinstalled on your machine and that's not going to happen at the terabit file sizes you're looking at.

    Now having said all of that, you'd also want to consider item 'tweeking', random generated stats, random maps, and etc, so that no two character games are ever the same and no two stories are ever alike...

    Of course you can also throw in a new character generator/tailor/etc. at least equal to or greater than the one used by Skyrim, etc.

    did I forget anything?

    Ah. and every box would come with your own personalized Dev, packaged in styrofoam peanuts, just for your use. You can even stand them in the corner and feed them on mondays...

    Uhh, no they aren't. The Cardassians are a Federation protectorate by the time STO begins, and the Cardassian government has been present at every major political summit since the 2800 arc, AND Cardassian defense force ships helped out during Midnight.

    The Cardassians are an ally, and have been since before the game even began.

    Uhh no, since no game runs on that standard.

    True expansions can't be played as thier own game, that would be a stand alone expansion, which is an entirely different thing.

    Once again, you manage to get everything wrong somehow.

    okay. let's revisit. The cardassians - the ones who are 'good guys' are vague allies of the Feds - not part of it. so no variation from what I said there.... even if you disagree in your opinion.

    What next?

    Actually, every game uses that standard. They add to it for MMOs and other online games, which are the only game that exceeds that timelimit. Has to do with the attentionspan of the player and competition. again, nothing different in what I stated, which is how they are determined. Remember, I work in game development.

    And...

    your definition of expansion is in error. Expansions 'expand upon a game'. they are designed so that with little effort they can be stand-alone games. Unlike WOW, which only added a little here and there, they can, if necessary, be packaged and run without the original game ever being involved. This definition was modified around the time of Baulder's gate so as to include just 'little additions and upgrades to the game' including a whole bunch of bug fixes. those types, didn't always include much in the way of 'additional game content'.

    so. Where is the 'get everything wrong' part? don't see it. besides, again, I wasn't replying to your post mainly. I was referring to the one you replied to and included yours. I only screwed up the forum quote.

    in the last weeks since console started, latency is so bad game is unplayable, my characters are frozen solid in "lagg", cant move anywhere, char_screen loading in takes half an our, just saaaad.

    or routing is broken to EU again
    or consolers ddos the gameserver traffic when "we" would like take part in, in the endless and pointless grinding for we dont know what for... maybe for a playable and fun game again in a few years
