Some console questions

delliboydelliboy Member Posts: 288 Arc User
I been playing this game on the PC for a long time. I love it but now I'm thinking about getting the X-BOX or a PS4 haven't figured it out yet. Some questions.

1. If I wanted to subscribe do I still subscribe to the game from the web site or do I have to do it from the console?

2. How does chatting with other players work? Do you do it through a keyboard or headset?

3. Does the zen work the same way? Say i want to make sure my toons have plenty of zen? Where would I purchase them from?

4. Are there going to be fleets still with the console versions?

Thanks guys

    Hi @delliboy

    1. If I wanted to subscribe do I still subscribe to the game from the web site or do I have to do it from the console?

--You can do it in game if you want the Lifetime Subscription. It's just a little over 18k Zen

    2. How does chatting with other players work? Do you do it through a keyboard or headset?

--I tend to be a more solo player so don't chat much but from what I see there is definitely chatter in text format. I've not looked for or tried any voice chat yet.

    3. Does the zen work the same way? Say i want to make sure my toons have plenty of zen? Where would I purchase them from?

--You can get your Zen in-game or on the site.

    4. Are there going to be fleets still with the console versions?

--I just hit Captain so haven't gotten to Fleet level ships yet but they are listed in-game as options and there is the ability to create/join Fleets

Here are some other observations I'll share since I'm like you. I played on my Mac for a long time until Crossover just couldn't cut it anymore on my exiting hardware so I gave it up. I'm a Founder from the original beta and launch days so I hated to give it up but it just wasn't playable on my hardware and an upgrade wasn't in the budget at that time. I had literally forgotten about STO until one of the geek news blogs threw up an article about the Console versions coming. I'm back now and loving it but it's taking a bit to adjust.

Here are some of the things you'll need to adapt to:

    A) Limited buttons = limited actions available:

Unless I'm missing something, and I really hope I am and someone corrects me, There is no way to really take advantage of your Bridge Officer's during Space Combat. You'll basically have the ability to use only 1 of their abilities, 2 for some. To change up you have to hold the button down until the "wheel" comes up then you use the Left Stick to select the skill you want to swap out or trigger. I'm still trying to get used to this. I wish they'd just implement a Left Trigger+X or Left Button+Y type alternate configuration.

    B) 3 fixed camera views to change from:

If you like being really close to your ship in Sector Space while you fly around then you'll not be happy. You can get the view close but not like in PC

    C) HUD:

Oh man, this is my biggest complaint so far. The dang HUD items take up so much screen real estate and you have no way to adjust them. Let's hope they fix that soon. It's especially annoying in Space Combat if you like to use the closest camera view.

    D) No Console Forums:

This one isn't game play related but so far, as you've obviously discovered, there are no Console specific forums so searching for solutions to problems often just gets you PC solutions.

Don't bother submitting a ticket asking about anything. They'll read just enough of your ticket to figure out which copy/paste answer gets your ticket out of their queue the fastest and never actually answer your question. Trust me, I'm 3 for 3 on this one. I finally told the last guy to just close the ticket because they were obviously NOT reading them and were useless. (He referred to and sent me PS4 canned responses when I mentioned twice in my ticket and the subject that I was on XBox One.

Other than these items I've found that its not too hard to adjust.

It's free to install and play so give it a shot and see what you think. I hope you have a good ISP because it's a 15GB download. :)
