Console Mayhem

A lot of players are going crazy over the fact that if they play on console, they wont have anything from PC to play with. Lifetime Rewards, Veteran Status, Ship builds.

My personal feelings on the issue are this,

Cryptic is bringing the game we know and love to console, with a completely updated engine. I am very excited because the PC i play STO on has never been able to handle the amazing graphics the game has had to offer, Console is an opportunity to experience that and more.
However I am deeply concerned about the fact that none of my purchases over the years will transfer over.

I don't mind starting completely over as a new player. In fact, with how many updates the game has received for console, I welcome a fresh start.
I understand the issues with bringing accounts as they are over to console. I foresee an attempt to do so riddled with countless bugs that will ruin the experience.

However, I believe cryptic should make what ever C-Store items are available on console that a player has owned on PC, available to them to be "Claimed" On console. This wouldn't create an unbalanced game, since most of the C-store items aren't available for use until later in the game.

We the players made this game the success it is by playing, and spending money on it. That should be honored.

I honestly don't see a way to do this without having it manually done since the two servers won't be communicative at all. People would have different gamer tags from their user accounts on PC so how do you see them accomplishing this?

What I find hilarious is the 'feelings' people bring with them to any discussion regarding the console release(s).

It's a free game, provided by a huge multinational business with many other games and interests. They are not interested in anyone's 'feelings' about 'this' or 'that'. That have obviously done their research and have decided expanding into the console marked is worth their while. Everybody else's 'feelings' are irrelevant.

OP: You say you are 'deeply concerned' that none of your purchases will be transferred over to the new console servers. Why? You don't get a free version of the same game for every platform (does blizzard give away xbox/ps/wii versions of thier game when you purchase the PC copy?... no).

It's a completely different platform, likely to have completely different servers and a completely different UI.

In my humble opinion if people are going to stop playing on PC to play on console's then fair enough, PWE should do what Bethesda did with ESO and make a 1 time offer to copy peoples characters over with everything they have at a cost before the console servers launch. Once the servers launch then thats it, the service should never be offered again.

Now if people are planning on playing on PC and console....... well its just my opinion again but you need your head seeing to. bg_rubberroom2.jpg

I think the simple solution would be to allow people who have existing STO accounts to use said account on the console version. They would have to make new characters, since it is a different server all together, but since it's a pre-exisitng account, it would still grant you anything that you had purchased on the account. In other words, I have a lifetime sub and lots of ships, if I bought the Xbox game, I should still have access to those, but I have to make a new toon and start over essentially.

This seems like the obvious way to go, they would probably even make more money this way.

Is it not sinking in they might not WANT your amassed library of 6 years of accumulated advantage overshadowing the new fish they're trying to net? That moving your assets over there might not be helping them in any way and thus they have no incentive to facilitate it?

That MAY decide to allow transfers, but color me totally unsurprised if they don't.

Ps4 user here. The biggest selling point for me is the foundry. That's what most excited me. That is the games biggest selling point.

We know there's not going to be everyone on one server, but I would hope they'd have some service where you could transfer your account to the console's server. If consoles aren't at the same 2410 as PC is then some of your purchases may be missing until they reach that point in the game's timeline?

I would assume that was part of the reason for the AoY expansion, it's separate from 2410 so console users can jump right in to the most current expansion w/o all that messy previous 6yrs of backstory?
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

It seems to me, that I read that the consoles will not have the most recent material...

You would be right on that. They most likely started work on the console version approximately the same time they were working on season 11, so they'll be launching with Season 11.5 stuff. Roughly the Console version will be 3 months behind, the length of time we know that they need to release new content.

I hate to say this, but it was confirmed in the last priority one podcast that like Neverwinter, the console version will lack the foundry mainly due to the UI of the foundry not meshing well with that of a console.

Even if they don't want to support cross play severs I can get that. I can understand how hard that would be for the console players to catch up. But to be honest they should have account synchronization. Give me my LTS and my z-store purchases on the consoles. This can be done without cross play and it is a good thing for STO. For example my friends stopped playing STO and because they stopped I don't play as much some times going months without playing that means I am going months of not buying things in the z-store. Now when I do play I still don't want to buy much in the z-store because I am not playing as much. However now that it is on console I have a new group of friends to play with. Why should I have to purchase LTS and all the ships I already paid for again? Nothing makes you feel more ripped off than what I am describing. Aren't I valuable as a returning player even if it is on the console? So now instead of playing with my friends and telling them how fun STO can be I am telling them I feel ripped off and won't play...Now they hear my story and it makes them not want to play...because why give money to a company that cheated my friend? Account synchronization is not a new concept. Smite did this for both consoles and it worked out really well. PLEASE DEV'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN LET ME LEVEL NEW CAPTAINS WITH MY FRIENDS!!!

STO isn't canon, and neither are any of the books.
