Maintenance twice this week?

I'm very sorry, but I cannot appreciate 2! different maintenance in a week.
For me, that's about 6 hours lost in STO.

Stop doing this?

Well at least there's a decent set of patch notes associated with today's downtime. So at least cryptic are finally applying some fixes to holodeck. Would you prefer that they did nothing to improve the software and/or hardware? Or maybe do them both together who would been around 7-8hrs lost in a day?

Personally as long as long as they are fixing and upgrading things for the better, then they could bring the server down for a whole week. I'll just find something else to occupy time with.
Oh, it's not broken? We can soon fix that!

It happens. They can't plan the maintenances around your life!

Today's maint is for the game software. These happen per a schedule are not usually moved even if another opportunity comes along.

Tuseday's maint was (from what I read) hardware related, and more urgent.

I'll leave your appreciation chat right where you left it. Personal entitlements do not interest me.

One of the reasons why quality keeps dropping globally, and folks get screwed over by companies, is because you accept FAR too much.
Hell, you folks basically ASK for it.

Just out of curiosity, how would you react if next week we got maintenance three times?

Kiksken, this is normal, not out of the ordinary. There will always be somebody 'inconvenienced' no matter what time they do maintenances.

Oh, I get that, what I do NOT get is why they never seem to combine all into a single maint.
This would save EVERYONE a lot of time, effort, and thus give cryptic the time to focus on say, oh, I don't know, maybe finally spend some attention to the Rom and KDF for a frikken change? :)

For various reasons, but mainly man-power would be the deciding factor. You must understand that when doing maintenance, they need to give themselves time to address an issues that crop up. The same team that does the site maintenance may also be responsible for the game maintenance. If you add both downtimes, you're looking in excess of 6-8 hours just to do what they planned. If they have an issue that will add an hour or so, extending the maintenance further. It could even escalated into a full scale disaster taking them past 12 hours plus resulting in many many rage posts. They cannot possible fit all that work into the same time frame. That's not how it works.

  • I don't mind them doing maintenance, especially if bugs are getting fixed. It has to be done some time.

How about the devs ignore your "request" and do what they'll do? How's that sound to you? I don't mind the maintenances, it's standard procedure for ALL MMO games. You clearly don't like it, so maybe MMO games aren't for you...

If they would just install fan guards to stop Geko from getting his tongue caught in the cooling fan's, no one would be inconvenienced.

A simpler solution would be for you to stop daring him to do it.

They are well within acceptable limits for IT. They have scheduled downtime, which generally doesn't count against any HA chart and as for sudden downtime that would...I'm pretty sure they are in the Two to Three Nines range, which is decent considering the complexity of the system and the fact that we have no actual SLA requiring a higher Nines range and no one's life is at risk.

If you wish to start paying $100+ a month for a subscription, I'm sure they would be open to providing a higher level of SLA and HA. Until then, take a break and enjoy some Netflix during the downtime and let them do their jobs....which I doubt they enjoy having to do before dawn as well.

I agree that some players are too lenient towards some companies, marketing moves, games, etc... and this is why we get disasters like Arkham Knight PC and No Man's Sky.

HOWEVER, using maintenances and patches as examples for this is not only counter-productive but also silly since these exist to improve quality and are fundamental to MMO. Plus, it was only 2 in a week.
