    1.) I don't have kids.

2.) Sun said that the t6 Connie is "essentially" locked behind a lockbox. I wouldn't call promo ships similar to lockbox ships. Promo ships are MUCH harder to acquire than lockbox ships. Promos are a limited timed offer and don't come back for a while whereas lockboxes remain for quite a long time (and makes things easier with the infinity lockbox). Sun is correct about the Bulwark (the TRIBBLE ship as she likes to call it) not coming back. The Bulwark promo hasn't returned in a while. Because of that, it's the rarest ship in the entire game as of right now. The thing that scares me is thinking about the possibility it never returning. For all we know, CBS may have said yes to this one time because of the 50th, and made sure that part of the deal was that it never comes back. I don't think that's likely, but who knows honestly. I really hope this isn't the case.

Overall my feelings about it remain the same. I feel bad for the average player never getting one but happy that it's even here in the first place. I'll never get one and that sucks, but oh well. I'm moving on. It's just a game.

3.) No. References that I make or catch are usually restricted to stuff that's obscure to most people here and almost anyone listening to this. In turn, any references that you guys make will likely shoot way past my head. Hi-Fives again to Sun for catching my @handle, though that was an easy one.

    Feedback

I appreciate Sun putting emphasis on what I was trying to say about t6 Connie coming out before t6 Sovereign.

On admiralty, I do what Midnite does. Spam KDF admiralty and get the dil reward after ten tours. It takes about two weeks to get through all ten, but it feels fast if you treat it like a bonus and not a goal to strive towards to. Just keep at it and anyone should get the reward. Sun, if you're saying that you ended up completing like +40 in a row and still haven't gotten to your next tour, then report it. That's definitely a bug.

Lockbox and promo ships are not the death of the game. Why do you think they keep happening?

Why do you think keys tend to sell so quickly on the exchange?
Why do you think the promo packs sell so quickly as well?

Does anyone honestly believe they'd keep doing this for years if it wasn't at the very least somewhat successful?

These RNG boxes have been going on and continuing strong for all these years. They are incredibly successful. They are even successful towards the people that aren't interested in gambling. The promo packs offer R&D materials and give 10 lobi whenever you don't win a grand prize. So some are actually paying for what they want. It is in fact the very opposite of "dooooom".

I want the Connie to be easily available for the average player, I really do. I don't want it to be the holy grail of STO, but that's not the case.

By the time episode 234 of Tribbles goes live, we will have hit the 50th. What would the Tribbles crew like to see in STO on the 8th to celebrate it? What do you expect? Feel free to be as cynical, optimistic, or sarcastic as you'd like.

    Let's not waste any time...

    Community questions:

1.) No, I don't. But if I did, I would want them to become trekkies. Preferably with a focus on TNG or DS9. Voyager might be acceptable. If they loved JJ-Trek instead, I would be forced to disavow them... (That was a joke. :p )

2.) It triggered my soapbox moment last week, so you got three guesses... Kill it with fire!
I mentioned a couple of feedbacks ago that I would have understood giving out a few holo emitters that make your ship temporarily look like one of those iconic TOS ships. Maybe give out 5 for free and make more of them available in the latinum store (or the lobi store or the dilithium store...) for a limited amount of time.

But a permanent endgame Connie? I have argued against the T6 excelsior (or rather the fact that it can use the classic skins...) and the 31st century ships and the 26th century ships and their 23rd century skins and a number of other ships that SHOULD have been phased out or that shouldn't exist in the first place. But that's neither here nor there. This is about the final straw that broke the camel's back.

I would have been okay with a T6 excelsior if it couldn't use the classic skins. I would have been okay with a 2409 connie. Something like an excalibur or exeter, but those would need a little touch-up to give them a true 2409 look. And that ship could not have access to the original or refit skin!
This is NOT a TOS game and we have never seen a TOS connie being featured prominently in any (non-time travel related) TNG/DS9 or Voyager episode. Let the ship rest in pieces, dangit!

And all the people crying about how expensive/hard to acquire this thing is... IT SHOULD NOT EXIST! And if I had been part of the decision process and I would have been forced to put it into the game... I would have made it even more expensive. If you play a 2409 game and expect an endgame TOS (or refit) connie, you should bleed profusely. This is by far not painful enough.

And don't give me the "It's a temporal ship, it only looks like a Connie!" thing. You can put lipstick on a pig and call it... Cindy-Lou (I apologize to all people named Cindy-Lou out there.) and try to marry it, but in a civilized country that behaviour should get you a nice, thorough psychological examination.

3.) Your mantra rung a very distant bell, but my google fu was strong, Cmdr. @sunseahl Ivanova. :p

Feedback: This might be a little more "shotgun style"...

Yes, MidNite, the decision makers need to worry about how to make a profit. But let me throw some words of wisdom at you... "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." You "should" consider how this decision affects other things. I mean, for some reason CBS refused to allow an endgame connie or even an endgame excalibur until now. Wait, let me rephrase that... according to Cryptic CBS refused to allow that. We don't actually know and I don't have reason to believe that Cryptic would have made this up, but just to cover my bases there.
Sure, this is a quick buck, but is it really worth it in the long run? I started playing this game because of the setting. The decision makers at Cryptic/PW showed time and again that they either don't understand their own setting or don't believe in it or they just don't care. So why should I?
    I don't. (Not anymore.)

"Immersion" helps you to keep people involved. Now, there are different kinds of immersion. You can have immersive storytelling (even in a shooter...), you can have a great community, you can play up the roleplay aspects of you mmo R P G...

Next point, there's something Chozo brought up. "Ships are money makers." Yes, they are. If they sell. Cryptic went on record more than once saying that klingons don't get as many ships as the feds because they just don't buy enough ships. And the best selling ships tend to be battlecruisers and raptors which is why they get those types of ships. Btw. a similar argument could be made for romulans...
Cryptic even said that they lost money on a few klingon ships. A while ago it was mentioned that the worst-selling ships sold in the dozens. And there is this rumor (can anyone verify it?) that the T5 science Bortasqu' might have been one of those ships.

We could talk about the why... I mean, were klingons not interested in science vessels or did Cryptic make bad science vessels which resulted in low sales which resulted in not making more science vessels?
The Bortas'qu was classified as a battlecruiser. According to Cryptic battlecruisers and raptors tend to sell reasonably well. Why did they keep making battlecruisers after the science Bortas'qu presumably failed that hard?

Cryptic's console version not working at STLV:
I'd like to thank TimberWolf for telling us this little story. That is an absolutely spectacular level of fail. See, if I had been part of the Cryptic delegation, I would have been so nervous about it, that I would have felt compelled to double-, triple-, even quadruple-check if everything was working properly. I mean a hardware failure would have been terrible but out of your... sphere of influence. But this?

Imagine you called something an exploit, triggering an angry response from a community that felt wrongfully accused and then your fix-up-script failed.
    Oh wait, that happened.

Or imagine you announced that your executive producer would make an exclusive announcement at... was it fedcon? And then someone posts the announcement almost a day early because... time-zones are difficult?
    Oh wait, that happened.

Or you revamped the tutorials/leveling experience specifically telling us how you (and basically every MMO out there) lost a sizeable percentage of players during the old tutorial so you wanted to improve it to retain more players.
And years later you would run your mouths about a new expansion and "immersion" and "attention to detail" and then you let it go live with a few potentially showstopping bugs during the first few hours of the new starting experience.
    OH WAIT, THAT HAPPENED!

I once said that the first few hours are the papers you send in when you apply for a job. You wouldn't... uhm... shouldn't send in papers you spilled coffee on. Or hand out a business card that contains a typo. Well, if you're a handy man people "might" not care about your literacy, but as an attorney?
"Safty first!" is a silly typo that won't trigger anyone to leave. Most people won't even notice it. But it's still a problem because it shows... tunnel vision? a lack of care? a lack of respect towards your customers? I'm not sure. But neither is acceptable.

I disagree. Playing barbie is one of the largest selling points of an MMO. People want the shiny. When it comes to a Star Trek MMO, it turns into space babrie, e.g. ships. It becomes attractive to an Excelsior fanboy/girl when you give them an Excelsior to play around with. If you get bothered whenever you see someone from Starfleet Dental like Nabreeki doing his usual shenanigans or see someone in a TOS/TMP Connie in a queue, that's on you. Anyone is still allowed to play the game the way they see fit, just in the same exact manner as the others are allowed to play the way they see fit, by flying a Connie or by being really creative in the character creator and spamming disco balls. People don't have to fly the temporal ships. People don't have to fly the Excelsior, and they really ought to just learn to deal with it if it bothers them seeing other people fly them.

I think it's more accurate to say that you're being forced to see a friend of yours marry a woman they obviously like but you don't, and you make her put on a pig mask and say "This isn't right. You can't marry a pig. You need help."

It doesn't matter what anyone tries to say, the ship is a temporal ship. It's in the name. If you want more proof, it comes with Molecular Reconstruction.

"Temporal Starships are capable of making subtle alterations on the molecular level through the use of Molecular Reconstruction. This technology allows the starship to assume 1 of three different Configurations: Defensive, Offensive and Support. Each Configuration has their own strengths and weaknesses. Each of the Configurations generate their own specific counter. Up to 6 Counters can be generated at a time. These Counters are used to fuel your Molecular Deconstruction Beam."

This is something only temporal ships are capable of. Granted, the older temporal ships don't come with this, but that's a design choice in terms of gameplay. They're not gonna go back and alter older ships with the new gameplay mechanics when they're trying to make newer shinier ships more appealing.

Sure, this is a quick buck, but is it really worth it in the long run? I started playing this game because of the setting. The decision makers at Cryptic/PW showed time and again that they either don't understand their own setting or don't believe in it or they just don't care. So why should I?

Calling it a "quick buck" is a massive understatement. I would only go as far as to say that immersion helps keep some people involved, but it's still just an MMO where you can expect some immersion to be bent. You're not going to see lines crossed. You're not going to see something like Picard making an appearance and acting like Avery Bullock through an entire featured episode. A t6 Connie is hardly something I would call "crossing the line" when it comes to "breaking immersion." If people are going to leave the game or stop paying for zen/buying zen from others with dil, all because of the Connie situation, it'll be because it's locked behind an RNG box and very expensive from sellers, not because of immersion. Even so, the amount of people paying for these more than make up for those people that are offended by the immersion aspect or the RNG one.

Next point, there's something Chozo brought up. "Ships are money makers." Yes, they are. If they sell. Cryptic went on record more than once saying that klingons don't get as many ships as the feds because they just don't buy enough ships. I think the worst selling ones were the non-klingon ones like the Orion and Gorn ships, similar to how the species specific fed ships also weren't as popular as the "joint effort"/traditional Federation ships. They gave away the Marauder Flight Deck Cruiser and Varanus Science Vessel for free at some points. As for the rumor, I've never heard of it. Hypothetically speaking, if it sold terribly back then, then it would probably be because people leaned towards the other variants. I saw tons of Bortasqus back in the day. They probably chose to fly the eng or tac variant.

I think the reason was because of the former. Science wasn't very popular back then. Mostly everyone was flying cruisers and escorts. However, science has been getting a lot of love in recent years. More versatile sci ships were made as years went by. The new skill system definitely gave science quite the large boost. On top of that, the new Temporal Operative skill introduced a new meta that was focused on science. More doors were opened. Science is as vigorous as it's ever been. At least the new 31c temporal ships are cross faction, making the Eternal a viable option to KDF and Roms who can't manage to get a costly promo or lockbox ship. Now if we can only get a C-store t6 true carrier for both...

As for why they kept making battlecruisers, I still think the Bortasqu' sold. It's not like they're going to stop making battlecruisers if one variant sold poorly while the other two managed. The t5 sci Bortas wasn't even really that sci heavy. The universals could be turned to sci, but overall I think people wanted more versatility. The Mogh, Kurak, Qib, and Negh'Tev are not sci focused, but the Gorkon and Klinzhai are. These two came out when sci was more popular than before and offers a much better deal than the t5 Bortas for being more flexible.

@sunseahl: "I'd rather not get into it."

When I continue discussing things outside my first post, I don't expect you to read it. Don't feel obliged to read it on air. It's totally fine.

    @alex1ger
Oh and sorry about the "either a troll or a liar" part. I mentioned before that I apologize to people who are serious about that, so I will: I'm sorry.
It's all good. No offense was taken.

I know it won't make anyone leave. I wasn't trying to interpret yours or anyone else's literal thoughts and the way they think when I made the remark. It was an exaggeration. I want to make it perfectly clear that I understand why you bring it up. In no way am I trying to poo-poo your point of view. It's just that kind of humor that I usually do among my friends or associates, to mess with and spin their words to make them be like "That's not what I mean dagnabbit."

It's my fault, especially given the context of the rest of my post, stating my thoughts on why people would leave and so on. Not to mention that I'm more or less new here. (To the podcast.) I apologize.

A lack of care is a bit much. A lot of care and love was obviously put into making everything really feel like TOS. It's not like they were procrastinating and being lethargic all day. I admire your perfectionism, but it's not a fair analogy to say they turned in papers that they spilled coffee all over. If they launched with say something like all animations weren't functioning and everyone was running around in a t-pose, then I would agree with you. A lack of respect towards customers is far too much IMO. It's a mistake that got overlooked, or maybe it was something intended like I previously mentioned. If it was a mistake, you are correct. It's not acceptable and it should've gotten fixed immediately. I just happen to disagree with the way you're wording it.
