Please tell us What Happened last night.

Ok, server was back up later that night, I usually don't like to agitate the waters, but can someone from STAFF please explain here for us to see/learn what really caused the crash of most if not all the servers last night, & what could be done in the near future to avoid it (if of course was not a power outage in the city were the servers are) thank you for your time.

Sto players with 1337 computer skills were annoyed with the r&d pack announcement and brought the server down in protest.

We users can't do anything to prevent a server outage so there is no point in telling us other than to satisfy our curiosity.

This is the same as asking "what was the code bug that caused -X- to happen?" (Loadout issue, inventory glitch, whatever.)

Not likely, if for example it was the result of some ddos type of attack they won't share that information as their already stated policy is not to give such people the attention they crave.

    Best answer ever, thanks friend.

Why should they? You aren't entitled to an explaination unless some of your personal data has been leaked as a result (and in many cases, not even then)...

It was down, now it's up, that's all you need to know.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Whether it was a DDoS (unlikely) or just a woopsie with a server config, it doesn't really benefit anyone to disclose what happened, since the impact was so limited. Companies usually hold post-mortems internally for stuff like this to try to ensure they aren't repeated, but TRIBBLE-ups are bound to happen with any highly available service once in a while.

The tribble in the hamster wheel that powers the server went on a coffee break. lol XD

Why would they tell us about that kind of thing? They never tell us about upcoming stuff until it is right upon us normally anyway. Been seeing a lot of Events just show up in the Calendar when it is time to have the Event.

Sorry to disappoint you. Cryptic's standard reply to all issues - serious or trivial - is silence. They once promised to communicate more actively a few years back but nothing really came out of it. It was a straw fire.

In other words, any answer you would get would be as irrelevant as your question.

I am a staff member, where I work, not at Cryptic or any other subsidiary, partner or whatever.

Basically you're not really interested in knowing what happened, you just want to vent out. Regardless of the answer you could get, you wouldn't be happy, because the relevant- to you - was that you were playing, and then could not.
The same way you're not really interested in my answer because you already deduced my intentions and nothing I can say will matter, unless of course I would respond exactly as you deduced.
I'm not against you and I am not saying you have to be happy about what happened. I'm just saying that the things you are demanding will serve no purpose whatsoever to the goal you want which is:that this doesn't happen again.

If they say it was a power outage, a database, a short-circuit, etc, etc you will have no way of knowing if it's the truth. Moreover, if they say they will do this or that to prevent it from happening again, you won't know if it's the truth either.

I admit it may be a defect on my part which derived from my profession that I tend to relevate only what I can control and determine.

Me and @artan42 were using part of the server to power our new and improved ... "Slime Fast Marmite" factory. However there were a few mishaps and we discovered marmite conducts electricity.

I must apologize to everyone... Through a secret code I received from a shady half Ferengi half Romulan, I was able to test drive a new T6 Connie, and when I engaged the corbomite maneuver the servers cried out in terror and shut down; at least we know the corbomite maneuver is effective. Again, I apologize profusely for my part in causing any inconvenience... :o

More than anything, though, I'd like to know what caused there to be such a big patch after stuff came back online (13 gb). A download that size is as big as the whole game, and almost seems like a re-install or complete overwrite.

The sheer weight of the excitement for the new promo crashed the game.

Or someone forgot to refil Trendy's personal coffee maker.. with trendy suffering from coffee withdrawal we may consider ourselves lucky that the world did not end..
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

There was no patch, that was some kind of glitch on your PC. I was on again later that night without patching.

There was no patch. I'm thinking it may be one of two things:
1-There was a corruption on your end with the disconnect and the game was reinstalled (very unlikely to happen from a disconnect - I would like to go with impossible, but...)

2-The disconnect was perceived as an abrupt termination and what you witnessed was the integrity verification.

Obviously it may be something else, but if so, I have no idea what might have been.

JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Server hamster died. Taco drew the short straw, and had to run to the pet store to buy a new one.

    Just my theory.
