Console Data Import

avengerofvulcanavengerofvulcan Member Posts: 29 Arc User
Hello,

I asked this question several months ago and have yet to get an answer.

Will we be able to import our PC character to the console version of the game?

I will not be playing on console if I have to start completely over and forgo all my purchases on PC.

They are completley different servers and therefore won't have data transfer.

I don't accept that answer. every other game that has ported to the consoles has separate servers, but they all import. it would be nice if Arc or Perfect World would actually make a statement about it. I cannot find any official answer to my question.

Neverwinter, another Cryptic/PW game, didn't allow PC to console transfers and I expect STO to take the same path. There will be no cross platform play so there will likely be no data transfer either.

You want to play on console, you will likely be starting from scratch.

    It's not.

On the one hand, we have thousands of potential new console players that join the game with a 1st level character, no EC, no Dilithiu, no Zen, no nothing.

On the other, we have PC players that already pay and play the game, some of them having millions of Dilithium, billions of EC across multiple characters, maxed out reputation, a huge stable of ships, and Mark XIV Very Rare to Epic gear, maxed out after 6 years of power creep.

And you want t mix these two groups and hope that the actually new players stay around once they see that they would need 3 years of play or spend hundreds of dollars to pay for a single lockbox ship on the exchange as the rich PC people set their prices as they are used to?

Cryptic isn't trying to convert PC players into console gamers. They want new players on the consoles.

Aside from that - the console versions of the game will have content and version differences that will make it unlikely that a data transfer would be "safe".

Even if they don't want to support cross play severs I can get that. I can understand how hard that would be for the console players to catch up. But to be honest they should have account synchronization. Give me my LTS and my z-store purchases on the consoles. This can be done without cross play and it is a good thing for STO. For example my friends stopped playing STO and because they stopped I don't play as much some times going months without playing that means I am going months of not buying things in the z-store. Now when I do play I still don't want to buy much in the z-store because I am not playing as much. However now that it is on console I have a new group of friends to play with. Why should I have to purchase LTS and all the ships I already paid for again? Nothing makes you feel more ripped off than what I am describing. Aren't I valuable as a returning player even if it is on the console? So now instead of playing with my friends and telling them how fun STO can be I am telling them I feel ripped off and won't play...Now they hear my story and it makes them not want to play...because why give money to a company that cheated my friend? Account synchronization is not a new concept. Smite did this for both consoles and it worked out really well. PLEASE DEV'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN LET ME LEVEL NEW CAPTAINS WITH MY FRIENDS!!!

Which ones? Neither my World of Tanks nor DC Universe Online did.

Necro thread, but SWTOR allows server transfers ... for $20 per character. That's only on the PC platform though, since the console versions don't exist.

How many dead threads is this exact word-for-word post going to be posted on?

first and foremost that comes to mind is Warframe. Digital Extremes allowed direct transfer of all assets for free. second, although slightly different, in Destiny Bungie Allows characters to be imported from last-gen consoles to current-gen consoles (completely separate servers) at no cost as well.

but I do very much agree with furiousfred77 - I have warned everyone that's asked me about it to avoid the game like the plague, since they obviously don't care about their long-time dedicated players.
  • iamynaughtiamynaught Member Posts: 1,285 Arc User
But they DO care about their long-time, dedicated players, which is why they didn't shut down the PC server and FORCE us to go to consoles. If they had done that, then and only then would I expect them to allow transfers.

They didn't though and we can still play on PC. If you've played on PC for years and purchased lots of things then continue to play on PC and all of your stuff is still here.

Do you expect to buy a game for the XBOne and then expect the game developer to give you a free copy of that game for the PS4 simply because you want to play on that system as well?

They ported the game to consoles to bring in MORE money by getting console players. They do not expect PC players to switch to console, but they will gladly take your money if you decide to.

Oh yea lets let you have access to things the console players are probably months and months away from having, that would go over well. It's hard enough to get console players to stick to one game, but let's add in some (what they would call cheating) and make the console version a ghost town.

I used to play the PC version, and had some great C-Store purchases like the Caitan Carrier and Stealth Fighter. I was a bit bummed that I couldn't access those purchases, or my Fleet items; but there was something that gave me great happiness:
I was able to start with a brand new STO community from the ground up.
I am in a community before the formation of long-standing fleets, and the advent of PvP players with the best Top Tier equipment. We all have the same basic control setup, without macros or other edges granted by better frame rates and such. :)

So... while I mourn the loss of my Carrier, and other goods, I believe that the pros outweigh the cons.

Not just that, but the console currently has roughly only a third of the ships available on PC. Only yesterday did we get the T6 Kolasi Siege Destroyer, and some ships are still being worked on before being made available to console. So there a decent chance that if they did transfer a PC account, most of its purchased ships would be locked until such time they were on Console.

Some mechanics are different, there's bugs on Console where there isn't on PC, Its a completely different UI, theres no crafting, fleet ships, or DOFF's - so if you transferred to console, these things would have to be removed/locked on your account until the console caught up. It would be unfair for you to have crafted items on a transferred character for instance, or a fleet ship that is not currently available.

So, for ease of play, No Transfers.
