I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.

    While I'm disappointed that pretty much all of my questions got skipped over, it is important that Rock revealed that Mines are in an even more borked state than we had assumed. To put it mildly, it sounds like just about EVERYTHING about Mines is, for all intents and purposes, HARD coded so as foreclose on any and all possibility and/or potential for tweaks and adjustments over time.

    In other words, Mine performance is produced by a series of H4X in the coding that you can't DO anything with or to without breaking everything. If this were the Heavy Gear series published by Dream Pod 9, we'd call this the Difficult to Modify (-5) Flaw in the design specs.

    That means ... functionally ... that what needs to happen for Mines is that they need a COMPLETE overhaul and "ground up" (for a space weapon no less!) full REFACTORING of how they "work" under the hood. The legacy state of Mines is so "broken" and beyond repair that trying to kludge stuff onto the existing framework is a fool's errand. Better to Repeal & Replace starting with a clean sheet of paper so as to make Mines a more viable weapon system again. They need a "Do Over" of the entire system ... from programming to art to FX to animations to ... well ... everything.

    That fact that Rock stated flat out that every problem that Torpedoes have (and there are plenty to go around) go DOUBLE for Mines. That was a useful admission of need for reform of the governing legacy system(s).

    Which in turn makes me wonder if it might be possible to "repurpose" the Hangar Pet systems to mimic/function as suicidal self-destructing Mines and do a sort of "refactoring on the cheap" that way as a shortcut to getting things fixed for Mines.

    I've so far listened to the first 2 hours of this, and wanted to thank the grilled victim that he spend so much time - presumably outside his work hours? - for this! Thanks, @crypticrock!

    I don't know if it's that bleak (well, probably), but it's pretty interesting to learn that mine behaviour is AI behaviour, not just regular weapon stats.

    It was a good podcast! I enjoyed hearing crypticrock's view on some of the things seen as issues within the game.
