I'm thinking of getting the Arbiter for my AoY captain since I want a (shiny new) cruiser and I don't like the look of the Chronos. I already have another captain flying the Guardian. I have a couple of questions:
- Do you need to own the Avenger to use its skin? I go back and forth on which one I like better.
- Is the VATA console good or at least fun? The 15% damage and 33% turn from the 2-set bonus might be enough to justify slotting it.

- The easy one: No, you don't need the Avenger to use its parts on the Arbiter; I'd highly suggest using the Avenger saucer, and the Avenger nacelles go pretty well with the Arbiter hull/pylons. Of course, that's my own taste; YMMV and all that.
- The other one: I picked up the Mogh when it came out, and its take on the VATA was pretty neat... but not necessarily amazingly effective. Of course, I also picked up the Cross-Faction Battle Cruisers 3-Pack, and the overall Set is fairly decent. Ignoring all that, the ships themselves are great fun.
That said, I don't think getting the Avenger specifically for the set is worth it. There's just too much available otherwise, and it's really easy to build a more effective setup using what's already available through Crafting, Episodes, and Rep. It's nice to have, but it's not a high-priority purchase.
Actually, if anything, you might consider picking up the 31c. Raider or 3-Pack during the Sale; the ship itself is a true account-wide unlock, and the Starship Trait works well with a ship like the Arbiter, allowing it to run 2x LtC Tac/1x Ens Tac/1x Cmdr Eng/1x Lt Sci and use your Attack Patterns to keep the cooldowns on your Eng seats cycling well.
I prefer the Avenger's saucer too, it's nice to hear I can use it without buying one.
Using different parts from each ship, you can actually make something pretty cool looking.
I guess it only boast like 1 or 2 % really... I am not sure
Chronos looks awsome if you make it pink-ish
it looks like Patrick the Seastar, with huge boils
I cant wait to fly a borgcube someday
colour it yellow and call it Spongeborg
In my personal opinion, you made the best possible choice. You picked a ship with absolutely no downside.
Congrats on the new ship!
Reading this thread gives me a little pause on my decision though. Trying to play a cruiser for the first time over dmg dealing escorts i wanted a full blown tanking cruiser over a medium dmg dealing ship, so that was a factor for my decision. Like i said, it tanks like a beast, i am at 100k HP now, and shreads ships pretty good.
The Arbiter can actually tank really well, especially if you use it's bundled console, that thing is amazing. When your hull gets into the red, pop the console along with GDF for the damage boost. The shield absorbs energy and then explodes using all the energy to heal both your hull and shields. It's a complete 'get out of jail free card' and makes the Arbiter ridiculously hard to kill.
Again, the Odyssey is great, if you like big heavy cruisers it's a home run. I just prefer the Arbiter because it does more damage and has a great console as well as one of the games most desirable traits. It's unbelievably versatile. I just wish it came fleet level from the C-Store like the Odyssey.
Don't worry, there should be at least another instance this year when a Zen sale will pop up. That's the only time when I buy Zen as well. Also, there should be at least two other instances when a 20% off ship sale will occur. Black Friday for one day only and a Christmas sale.
I bought the T6 Battlecruiser Cross-Faction Pack last month and I just picked up the 31c ship bundle this weekend. I probably will not be flying any of those ships until at least September since I am working on a bunch of things at once. But at least I am slowly pulling together some gear for those ships. Unfortunately, I need to rebuild my stock of Superior Upgrades and Accelerators before I can craft anything.
Of the Battlecruiser pack, the Morrigu Heavy Warbird seems to be my favorite. It's less sturdy than the Arbiter / Kurak , but it is also more maneuverable.
