TOS Klingon Female Uniform

Well, it's been a long time coming, but we FINALLY have a TOS female klingon uniform. Thank you devs. Now, if only you had got it RIGHT.

I seem to say this a lot here. You guys never seem to get it quite right. As usual, great ideas, badly implemented.

Specifically, the mesh sleeves on the uniform should be LONG, they should not stop at the elbow.

Also, note that there is no sleeveless variant with the mesh center, as Mara wears in the image above. There should be.

Also, the male chainmail pants (midthigh, high) extend too low to be used with the thigh high boots (which they ought to be used with).

Otherwise, fairly good job.
Once, I was simply called Mojo. Now, I'm forced into a new name, but don't be fooled, I'm the original STO Mojo!

This game needs detailed crafting, exploration and interaction systems.

ALSO, on the Mesh Sleeves....I can not change the color to match the mesh in the tops...male or female.

Oh, I didn't know about the "chain mail pants". I have to go check that out. :)

You need to start a ToS character and play the Battle of Caleb IV and that should unlock the ToS costumes. If you already did before last weeks patch then just replay the mission. Note this does not work on the deplomacy Gorn.

I've not been able to get ANY gorn parts or costumes...

The only thing implemented for Gorn to use is the TOS head. Nothing else is enabled yet.

female KDF can not wear the chain mail pants. Also... they all lack ranks.

You shouldn't need to replay the mission, it should work as long as you've logged into your TOS/AOY toon at least once since the last patch.

Oh? Well darn. I wish I would have known that last week. It might have saved me a death or two lol.

    I'll try that.

No joy, still can't use the TOS Gorn.

The Gorn's head is the only thing you can change right now because even though we are I think 3 patches in the expansion, Surprise! The Gorn's costume is still broken. Under head should give you the option to use Gorn or Gorn23c.

The TOS Klingon assets were a much bigger undertaking than you might think. Yet, with our limited character team size (2 people!) and very limited time, we managed to squeeze out quite a bit more than expected and originally planned.

Usually our faction groups have one main uniform worth of assets with maybe a slight variation or two. Both genders also usually share the textures, and many times, essentially the same geometry. Then with a little mixing and matching and different color schemes we flush out a whole group.

TOS Klingon uniforms from the show look almost the same for male ranks, yet female's ranks are extremely different from the males and include multiple styles. So, 1. you have a bunch of outfits that are hard to distinguish rank at a glance and from a distance (not ideal for a game) and 2. you have head-to-toe, unique, multiple uniforms - that means a lot of time and work.

On top of that...we made the assets work to the best of our ability with our costume system...so we could release the assets to you all...for free.

That involves a Donald Trump yuuuuuge amount of extra category set-up, testing w/ hundreds of existing parts, setting color palettes, and so on. Soooooo...some of the issues mentioned are bugs and relatively minor all things considered.

That said, thanks for bringing them to our attention. Coming soon-ish will be fixes to include the female mesh cuffs (which will make a long sleeve), correct color tinting for sleeves, chain guards for male hips, and tight chain pants (to wear w/ tall boots).

Females do not have chain pants as we were trying to match the source material as best as possible, and due to the already extra time involved, that wasn't an option.

The links below shows the reference material and an earlier pass at the ranked group, taking minor liberties to fit our costume system and create as unified, yet distinct ranks, as possible (considering the extreme sexual dimorphism - not an easy task). Again, this is an earlier shot and the uniforms have changed slightly for the current in-game group.

    Two people did all that?

Can we loan you to NASA? I figure you will have working warp drives in a year.

    Good work and thank you.

Wow, only 2 people? I never knew the character team was that small, thanks for all your effort! The Klingon TOS outfits are great, I'm already very happy with what we got :)
  • talasivaritalasivari Member Posts: 59 Arc User
Remember too, that the Character Team is probably also developing future assets for whatever is scheduled for the future.

Small teams are more efficient and easier to track for time/development purposes - but under more pressure because they're operating "lean".

Thanks for the info, crypticjoejing. With TOS Klink outfits, I may yet create a KDF char.

Love the TOS klingon uniforms but from what I have noticed the male KDF boff's are very limited on the TOS uniforms and don't have access to the TOS badge but all the KDF female Boff's (the one from maruader 4 included) minus the Kobali have access to pretty much all the current TOS uniform parts

Very excited to hear these further improvements on an already substantial new body of tools! Thank you for shepherding this project forward.

This thread seems like another good place to post this--I took a stab at putting together a canon color guide for these uniforms:

    http://imgur.com/a/I73Qt

The character team already did a great job at matching the colors used on screen, so I mostly compared my choices against theirs, then made a few minor tweaks based on my preferences, like giving males a dark navy undershirt instead of black (looks darker with the KDF palette, and the lighting in some scenes does make them look a bit blue), and to make the colors work with the palettes available to us. If I update these, I'll probably also make the gold trim and mesh on Mara's uniform a bit darker, it looks too yellow with this value, along with darkening her tights.

Also, maybe this was done as a stylistic choice, but while I was putting these together, I noticed that Mara's uniform wasn't open/meshed in the back:

Personally, I like the open back more :)

You did a good job; they're very nice costume pieces for the KDF to get and it's nice to see time being taken on something for the non-Feds for a change, even if we are a much smaller part of the playerbase.

    I noticed something:

For males when you set the upper category to bare chest, you get a sleeveless version of the 23c top. The mesh sleeves are separated in the arm attach categories.

The sleeveless version of the female top is in the jacket-tight category instead of bare top.

Not only are the mesh sleeves too short, they're not even attached to the shirt.

The sleeveless version of the female top should be in the bare chest category and the mesh sleeves for both genders should be a new separate category only available for the sleeveless top that adds both sleeves to the shirt, instead of being in the arm attach category for everything.

    klingon%20mesh%20sleeves_zpsxpn5nt8k.jpg~original

P.S. Shouldn't the belt Klingon TOS be renamed to 23c? Great work overall. :)

The sparkly tights with the female shorts work for pseudo-chain leggings, incidentally:
