well they still stand, for the most part.

however, ST beyond (no spoilers or lest ye get the ire of many) destroyed any credibility JJ had as a director in my opinion. this movie directed by Justin Lin, and written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, is what we should have had all those years ago, this is the movie, the grade of movie which should have made it to the screens the first two times.

I cannot explain why, but this movie has blown away any bad juju of the Kelvin Timeline I may have had.

I can say this, the first two movies were about young kirk being rebellious and awkward while being in an action flick. This movie was about the goddamn U.S.S. Enterprise Crew, Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, Checkov, Sulu, Scotty. there was actual emotion, not awkward creepy emotion hammered in to make the list complete. they wove the movie together, not riveted two pieces of plywood and called it metal.

I went to Cinemark (movie theater chain), in the main lobby there was a massive group of Star Trek Die hards, who were all claiming the new movie sucks because JJ is off of it and it reeked of death, like the studios were trying to close the door hurridly. when we all left, some of us had tears, some of us had glowing faces of pure joy, others had a feeling of dread...for the Star Wars movies directed by JJ....yea it was that good of a movie, it put the reality of JJ's direction into light.

If you have not seen the movie in the next few days, I encourage you to try, it's one of THE best movies to come out in the last five years.

it is Certainly the best Star Trek Movie I've ever seen. It felt like Star Trek, an episode with FAR greater production values, and a longer run time. it didn't' feel like a throwaway box office action movie.

for the love of all things Star Trek, watch this movie. and feel the hate for the kelvin line fall away, as the rightful heir to Star Trek rises for the first time.

yea, but JJ stayed away from it for the most part, he had no contributing role in the direction, nor the writing. Also, from what I can tell, him producing it basically allowed for the majority of assets and designs to be retained.

I would never call the Kelvin timeline any kind of Heir. I would call it a decent alternative perhaps.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

I was quite impressed. I had fun watching it and it actually has a great story and a bunch of easter eggs to the prime timeline.

I would say the same thing if this was anything like the first two, but this movie, just utterly destroys the first two, it's almost like they didn't happen.

It felt like Star Trek, it wasn't all Action and bluster with teenagers playing the roles, they felt like adults finally, they didn't feel crappy and shut out of anything trek.

there were scenes which will make you gasp, and will make you sad, but proud at the same time.

I really do recomend people go to watch it, Simon Pegg destroyed the first Two JJ movies with this story, trailers don't do it justice.

It really does feel like Star Trek. And in this film, Kirk tackles the responsibility of being a captain and is very much an adult. There's hope, there's strength in what the federation is all about. There's a meaningful villain. There's a LOT of time with the crew to develop their characters. It's a fun Star Trek adventure. The action is great, but it's not the driving force of the film. This time it's the mystery, the conflict, the characters, it's very very Trek.

And the humor and easter eggs are all very appreciative of the fan base.

It's time to start calling this Pegg-Trek.

    :)

Though "get to the Kelvin pods" line kind of cements this is the Kelvin Timeline.

exactly, and this time, I saw people gasp at the sight of the station (seen in trailers, I ain't gonna spoil anything) it's amazement of detail. I mean it was kinda goofy on some levels, but it was absolutely marvelous.

it felt like Trek, and I'd be proud to see more Pegg-Trek movies.

Yeah me and my friend both gasped at that. It was a very cool nod to some of the sweeping ideas that Star Trek is famous for trying to incorporate into its content.

Also, not trying to spoil anything as it's shown in the trailer, but the one thing I was going in annoyed with was yet another Trek film is going to destroy yet another starship. What they did in this film with that story element, surprised me. After seeing it, I was like, ok, thematically that was impressive. That's all I'll really say about it here, but I just thought it was going to be done as yet another spectacle. But nope, it ended up being a cool "overall theme" of what was going on in the plot and they used the idea in a way that previous films hadn't.

Did you notice any big differences between the 1701-A and the original JJ-prise?

If you're talking about the KT 1701-A, the nacelles seemed to be farther apart and shorter, bringing her more in line with the prime universe, the neck was slightly shorter and thicker, and the secondary hull was more cylindrical with a much more sharply pronounced fantail. Beyond that, she's pretty much the same boat on the outside.

I'm rather worried about the film. I booked seats to see it early this morning. In every other film showing I have been to on release day for that film, there was less than 10 seats available. With STB, only 9 were taken, in a 400+ seat cinema.

... you know how many tickets are available to a movie? When I go, no matter what theater it is the most you'll ever see is 'Sold Out' on a given showtime

There were rumblings of me being dragged out to this this weekend, however, I think I've put it off at least to Sunday. I will continue my delay tactics as long as possible.

Never been big on having a big group of friends, and between work, my family (wife and kids), and my video game addiction there's really no time for guy friends anyway. Even when i was in high school and I did have a decent amount of friends, I only ever did anything with them outside of school once.

Besides, even though she doesn't want to see it, if I went without her she'd be even more upset :)

There were a couple of spots where it was a bit too dark to see what was going on, but that could have been the way the 3D glasses work with my eyes.

I've seen it yeserday too (first day in Italy) and the cinema was deserted, well shame on that it was the best KT movie so far even if i called ******** on the size of the station (for what we know about trek universe) and got REALLY emotiional when a certain someone opens and sees something. This time i bought the characters because they were fleshed out and even tha "sulu is TRIBBLE" thing was played cool, it would have been better not talking about it beforehand and making it a point. I'd give it a 7/10, maybe more in comparison to the two others.

the other two were absolute Bull*** they bombed critically, this however has seen a massive surge in the right direction, this one, just proves what should have been made in the first place.

I can forgive the size of the station, for a lot of reasons. chiefly being it's a different universe and they're not trying to hide it anymore. it's also something I'd probably do if I had the tech at my disposal.

It don't matter what they did to the 3rd movie. The first sets the route for the rest. The first was trash, so will be the rest. This won't be the first time or the last time. I don't watch a series, cause the first one was trash.

I will see Star Trek again once this current movie series is dead and put to the grave. And we get a whole fresh series.

Your logic doesn't make sense. Because if you're going to go watch a new fresh series, the argument you just made applies:

It don't matter what they do in a fresh series. The Star Trek 2009 film sets the route for the rest. Since you feel it was trash, so will be the rest of Star Trek forever and ever. As such you should no longer watch any series, cause the last Star Trek movie you watched was trash.

I mean, personally you should have been done with Trek back when they saved the Whales, using the logic you just put forth.

So I dunno, why not take your own advice? And move on from Trek since it's such trash to you?

In any event, with the coming of Pegg-Trek, the hatred for all things Kelvin is going to dissipate. There will be some who cling to this hatred as tightly as they can. But this film will essentially help many many dissenters move on. It's that good. It's such a core Star Trek film in story, tone and characterization. It's everything fans and the uninitiated alike have been after for years.
