"you can not complain about AOY because it is free"

some people are saying that you cannot complain about
AOY because it is free. this is false and here is why.

anyone who has ever spent any money on this game is
funding its contents. anyone who ever bought a ship or
opened a lock box funded the content that was made after
they spend that money. that includes AOY>

so anyone who has ever spend money on thsi game has a
right to complain about anything in the game because their
money was used to make the things in teh game.

personally i love AOY, but i hate people who try to silence other people.

I counter with: I spent $130 on AoY. And have nothing but good things to say about it!

Anyone who has "nothing but good things to say" about a product is being unrealistic. Everything has flaws, and being unwilling to admit or even acknowledge them makes you a blind sheep. Even the things I like have defects. That is pure realism.

So I see the hipsters have weighed in on the subject. So how's the weather in Williamsburg today?

that comparison would only apply if we were talking
about 2 different games. like for example if someone
played a game cryptic made before this one like champions
    online.

but in this case i am talking about only one single game,
this one. and anyone who has ever spent money on this game
has a right to complain about this game if they want to.

and im not even saying i want to complain about it myself!
im just saying that people have the right to do so if they have
spent money on it and no one should tell them they dont.

I disagree with the idea that you can't complain because it's free, but I also disagree that paying $10 in 2012 means you funded the development of new content in 2016. Nope, your money was spent long ago.

When you get to be my age, even with all the time travelling, you start to realize that minor flaws and annoyances are a part of life. You find the happiness and joy when and where you can. You appreciate the good and try not to let the bad bog you down. Life, even life extended with temporal mechanics and kremlin time weapons, is still too brief and too short to sweat the small stuff. This lesson was hard for me to learn. It took Cryptic itself to teach me that. I can't even count how many times they had to slap me in the face to wake me up to the reality of online gaming. But it worked. It got me there. And now I can part with $130 bucks, a few quatloos, and a ton of dilithium, and come away from it all realizing that no matter what the flaws are, I am better off today, be it 2016, the 23rd century, the 25th century, or the 31st century, better than before! I'm also way better off than the sphere builders at the battle of procyon.

And it's with a light heart, and a lung full of sweet freedom filled air, that I can breathe easy and look at AoY and think not only is the nostalgia of yesterday alive and well in my present day, but that I am a much better off Star Trek Online player for having experienced Agents of Yesterday.

I'm sorry your mileage has varied. I truly wish I could share how special my unique path through the timeline has been. The loss you must feel knowing the divide between my euphoric experience from just 6 tiny missions can't be equalled by the previous 6 years of content is staggering. I feel like the Don Draper, yearning to buy the rest of you a Coke.

In true spirit of AoY: I hope that the future brings more of the past to your present.

The only complaint I have is not being able to disable the AoY sounds and beam up colors and just use all normal fed animations and sounds.

So far I'm loving AOY. I wasn't going to level mine at all after around Lv10-20. Now I will level mine on up to be part of my other characters I play.

My only complaint is I would love more 23c missions.

That is because they are hard coded in. Technically TOS characters, while automatically joining the Federation, are a seperate faction just like the Romulans. Unique beam out, unique UI...

That was a little uncalled for. I don't think that he was talking down to anyone or bragging about maturity level. He's quite happy with how AoY turned out from the looks of it. While I agree that some things could have been a bit better, is this thread really necessary? People will complain even if something was free. Doesn't matter. We get some giveaway items in the C-Store and people complain because either they already have the item or its "not the right one". Klingons have been given the Marauder FDC a couple times in a row in the Giveaways, while Feds got the T5 Ambassador Retrofit and T5 Excelsior, one of which is technically no longer available as a standard T5, but only as a Fleet T5. I'm pretty sure some KDF would LOVE a chance to get an account unlock for the Kamarag Retrofit like Feds got the Ambassador.

Ah that sucks. I love the idea behind the temporal agent stuff and would love that to be my main but I can't stand the sound effects or yellow beam out. Wish I hadn't missed the delta recruitment.

My only complaint about AoY is that it doesn't last long enough. Would have liked much more of a story and arc before going into the 25th century to play the rest of the game.

Have Cryptic made anyone pay for AoY expansion directly....NO.
Have Cryptic forced anyone to pay for access to AoY......NO.

Therefore AoY, as STO is free to play.

And really...no, you can't really complain that you've been robbed, nerfed, duped or the like, like some people do. At the end of the day, this IS an expansion, 12+ new episodes (that's more episodes than a typical new season), new Rep, new Spec, new ship, new effects and new weapons and equipment (and soon a new lighting engine) ALL ACCESSIBLE FOR NOTHING! This is also CRYPTIC's game, not Joe-Public's! If you want to complain, fine, but read the ToS. Cryptic can do as it pleases, so long as it doesn't infringe the License agreement with CBS!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? Well sorry to bust your bubble, but when you go to install the game, you are asked to agree to the EULA/ToS. If you don't want to agree with the "we're not responsible for anything anytime" BS, then don't play the game. Because by playing the game, you are agreeing to be bound by that BS.

And I'm also sorry to tell you that since this game went free to play, as in not requiring a subscription, any money you spent was for exactly what you spent it on: Cryptic Points for use in the cryptic store. That's what you paid for. That's what you got. And if you used them to buy something from the C-store, then you got what you paid for.

And back before the game went Free to Play, your subscription went for just one thing: Access to the game, subject to what I call the NONE clause in the terms. You know... the part that says that the developer is Not Obligated to provide anything beyond access to the serves, as-is, and the end user is Not Entitled to anything beyond access. Not Obligated, Not Entitled. NONE.

Don't like it? Too freaking bad.

Now one thing that the terms do NOT say is that we forfeit the right to complain about something we don't like about the game. But Cryptic is not obligated to act on your complaints, my complaints, or anyone else's complaints. We have a choice. If we do not like this game, NOTHING obligates US to keep playing it. If we keep playing it in spite of our complaints, we are sending them the message that really, "It's the best game ever and we love it!"

Don't like the game? Fine. You shouldn't have a problem with not playing it. But the thing is, even if every single one of us stopped playing the game, it will not prompt PWE to do anything to improve the game. It would prompt them to sunset it, and turn it into a tax write-off.

This game is not what I want to spend money on, so I don't. I only play it when new stuff comes out, and Cryptic gets no money from me because they do not charge for playable content, and I have no interest in C-store or lockbox fluff that is strong enough to compel me to spend money. I would be happy to buy mission content. When they start charging for access to mission content, then I will gladly buy it. But that's just me.

Sorry to burst your bubble, if you like settling for your own standards be my guest, your money isn't mine.

I have heard this tired yarn way too many times, all youve done is wear life outa your KB.

I am well aware of bs eula and tos agreements, well aware every time you log in you agree to them by defacto.

That doesn't mean "i" agree with every thing they say.

Waste someone else's time, not someone whos been playing games since the 80's and has heard all this BS before.

Peddle your go with the flow ideologies to someone else.

If you dont like what i have to post, you shouldn't have a problem ignoring it altogether, and not responding to it at all.

you have every right to complain, just as trendy has every right to smack you across the snout with her Leek of Doom™
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

    Here's the thing...

If you don't like the FREE expansion, then complain with your wallet by not buying anything extra in-game. Be it Zen, or if you already have Zen, nothing from the C-store.

If you REALLY want to complain to the extreme, uninstall STO.

I think at least some would agree that Cryptic has done some things that, at least some of us would say, were stupid. They aren't going to know WHY unless their metrics show a sudden downturn in logins or online purchases. Yes, they could read these very message boards for that information, but seriously, why would they subject themselves to the constant stream of complaints over what "players want" when the metrics show what is making them money (i.e. Lockbox key sales).

As stated before, the only thing they really care about is their data. They won't do anything different if they see Zen sales skyrocket. With this new lockbox, they took a gamble to see just how far people would go for a T-6 Connie or the Romulan's 1st ever carrier. They got their answer by the amount of Zen/Lockbox keys purchased.

With that data, they will probably move more and more new assets to lockboxes/lobi store and not so much to the C-Store. They are in it to make money, yes! But we really only have ourselves to blame for wanting something so bad that, at least some players, people are buying keys left and right, knowing that the odds of actually getting that Connie are not in the purchaser's favor.

And that little rant is just one of many ways you can look at why they do what they do.

We are all customers, and all have the right to a complaint. Even if Cryptic and the Fantrolls don't think so. TiQ3RTF.png

Lol believe it or not, i have actually stuck up for Cryptic in a couple threads lately.

They probably took snapshots of it, then framed it in gold and nailed it to the wall. B)

Product quality is never above criticism, nor should feedback be ignored, even if--especially if it is negative.

I don't take issue with people complaining in general, but no....you don't have "the right" to complain about thia game.

"right" doesn't mean what you think it means.

If you don't understand why a for-profit business would find consumer complaints and feedback valuable... good luck in the world. You'll need it.
