Before Delta Rising most of the long-term players had finished all the story arcs and were just sitting at level 50, with all those skill points converted into bridge officer skill points. Then DR came, there were 10 new levels plus specs, and missions spread across 10 levels, and a new, slow levelling curve. No one really liked that, especially not being unable to progress the mission arcs.
Since then, a few changes have been made, like the Admirality System, and the minimum level requirements for the DR missions have also been altered.
The TOS expansion has given me a reason to make a completely new character, and level him up. Once DOFFing became available, I did start doing DOFF missions, and kept playing regularly. I did play in the occassional Red Alert, but didn't have much chance to do them, being focused on actually getting ahead with the missions. I did also complete the 3 Yesterday's War missions.
I am now at Level 52, and the Admiralty System is opening up for my AOY character. I just completed the Romulan story arc, which means the Cardassian Struggle, Breen Invasion, Borg Advance, Solanae Dyson Sphere, the Delta Quadrant, the Iconian War and Future Proof are still ahead for me.
Unfortunately for testing, but fortunately for convenience, the Global Event will soon give us a huge skill point bonus, so at this point all our experience will be manipulated so I will probably not actually know if I'll actually hit any levelling gaps again. Still, so far, so interesting.
What are your experience with new characters? At what point in the story missions have you been level 50, 52 or 60?
(Note that at least my experience is still not 100 % authentic to that of a new player. I have plenty of resources I could spend on that character. I never use skill points boosts, but I had a few DOFF packs from the Academy Recruitment event, and a few other DOFFs, like old Tribble testing rewards, that I could get for the character. And of course, plenty of EC and DIlithium I could spend to improve his gear. And from now on, even without the skill point boost, I have dozens of ships that will give me Admiralty cards that I can and will claim.)

After "Coliseum" my TOS guy hit 50, did "cutting the cord" for the reman boff and then skipped a whole bunch to get the shard of possibilities and the breen boff. With a bit of doffing he's now ~52 with admiratly unlocked and waits till I finish getting the rerun event stuff on all other characters.
So yeah, with that xp boost coming I'm gonna make sure to get a good amount of spec points soon.
I will leave the post lvl 60 grind for the specs to the doff- and admiralty-systems. The latter reversed the XP madness from Delta Rising almost entirely.
All in all with the recruitment event AoY toons have a pretty easy birth into STO. The rep mark rewards are substantial. If one can combine the Delta Recruitment rewards and have sponsorship tokens all reps are basically finished which is nice.

I only crafted some Mk II consoles for this captain and I have not upgraded any of that gear yet. Waiting for the Double Tech Point Weekend before doing so. Still good enough to play story missions.
Made some decent EC selling low mark gear on the Exchange. I probably made 11m EC and spent 500m EC buying gear so that captain is sitting on 10.5m EC at the moment. My AoY agent currently has 40 items listed on the Exchange.
I do Doff missions if the failure rate is not too high. I think I have around 80 Doffs at the moment. I will purchase 100 slots the next time there is a sale. Definitely does help make leveling just a little bit faster.
Lastly, spent time dancing on Risa to get Favors, but not enough yet to buy a superior floater.
On my secondary STO account (strictly free to play), my AoY captain has only gotten as far as getting to the 25th century.
Leveling your char from 50 to 60 is still a slow process but nowhere near the hardship that it used to be.

"We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Enthusiasm for replaying the same thing I've done across 10 alts, with certain missions having done multiple times over for rewards, farming items (mk xii vr ap beams), weekly special bonuses, plus the rep/doff/skill point/R&D grind I've done on 9+ toons, all over again...isn't very high at the moment.
huh, you think 10 is bad? try 41

But I did get the Orb done on 5 other captains during this replay event, so that's pretty shnazzy

As of now just taking my time and still at level 23
I assumed it ended with the patch this morning, but if it's still there when I log back in you can bet I'm gonna dive on it
I'm beginning the last season and really eager to see the last 2 missions that were added. Especially Ragnarok.
Over all ive found 1-50 insanly fast to level, then 50-60 slow down alot, but still is lots of content to get you to 60 easy.
The first charater i made when i returned did hit a coupld half'ish level slumps where episiods wouldn,t allow him to continue till i leveled up. the second didn't have any problems thou and this third seems fine to 60.
Cost to upgrade items as you level for a new player thou seems to be a problem, but understandable with this old a game. The amount of EC they make vs exchange cost for gear is a bit to far apart imo, thou with this AOY giving you a fair chunk of change as you level thats lessoned a lot.
What did the Orb do again? I am not sure I have him on any characters, actually.
However, I have the benefit of the LTS bonus, so my leveling is slightly faster than the F2P player

I wonder why people brutally punish themselves (or something) with so many alternative characters in different MMOs. Personally I only create multiple characters if I have to. For example, for the Delta and Temporal Recruit events. Star Wars: The Old Republic is probably the only game where I have created multiple characters and played through them more extensively, but I only did that for the primary storylines and the account-wide rewards.
Other than that I usually just play one single character. I can admit it may seem boring but it allows me to pour all my resources and soul into that one character.
Anyways, my Temporal Agent is level 31... but I am taking it real slow and using my main character to craft and buy gear to help me speed through things. Leveling for spec points and reputation tiers is going to be a pain. I probably won't be done with that in a while. I am mostly interested in the superior versions of the specialization starship traits.

I don't consider it punishing myself. I don't have dozens like some players do. But I have more than enough to work with. Each one is at a different part of the game. Two was waiting for more new missions to come out. One was starting the Iconian Arc. Then I had my D. Recruit farming Dil to get Andorian ship weapons. Since she is in an Andorian Ship. So while I'm waiting for new missions, I was farming Dil or working on my Iconian Arc. This is where it comes in handy to have a couple characters. Now I'm working on my AOY some. Which I won't much longer since I wanted to see the new missions that came out. And I wanted to get my AOY started up to see their story.
Without some of my alts, I would be at a stand still and won't have to log on. Just to collect a few things and back off. Since I would be caught up. I'm not one to try to get all the things the game offers. Just stuff that gets my attention. This way I'm still playing and enjoying the game.

That being said, my temps aren't that advanced, the furthest is at level 31. I quickly got them all to 15 but am too lazy to be doffing right now, so they only advance through story (well, and Risa accolades for what it's worth). Especially because I started a new job this week which is taxing (my old one was more routine so I was fitter in the evenings).
But my Delta recruits did have no problem at all with level requirements for missions. The 50-60 gap probably really was an issue only for players who would probably have been level 75 or so at that point but had to start from 50. It may be a problem for those who only do story missions, no doffing or red alerts or similar at all, who don't hit any bonus. But even then it shouldn't be too bad.
But I can tell you I remember reaching level 50 around the time I was doing up the Cardassian Arc. Was 60 by the time I got to Delta Rising from my Delta Recruit. Temporal AoY, at a guess, would be the same amount of time.
