26th Century Ships - Cloaking?

steaensteaen Member Posts: 644 Arc User
Bought myself a Fleet Temporal Escort and in the middle of setting up the power tray, I notice that I have the option to cloak the ship - I don't have a cloak slotted and I hadn't noticed anything in the Dev Blogs suggesting the 26th century ships would have an inbuilt cloak or anything?

Have I missed something and this should have been expected, or is it a mistake of some kind?

    That is...... weird.

I mean, technically, it could.... make sense? The Klingons and the Romulans are Federation member states by then, I believe. Any treaties that restricted Starfleet from developing cloaking technology by those states would be rendered null and void by their admission. So, it'd make a sort-of sense that Starfleet ships could have cloaking technology on them.

But uh, it wasn't actually.... mentioned in the Dev Blogs?
    Maybe it was a surprise?

Yep, I could see the in-game logic behind why there would be one, I just wasn't expecting it to be there.

I've had a look back through the Dev Blogs and can't see any reference to cloaks at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just...curious, I suppose.

And you're sure it's for the Temporal Escort, and not the Temporal Raider? Because the Raider actually has a Battle Cloak that was pointed out in the Dev Blog.

Yep, Fleet Temporal Escort, Theseus Class.

Just keeps getting better and better, no 23rd century romulan or klingon toons, no romulan or klingon specific temporal ships, and now us feds get cloak on our exclusive temporal ships.

I approve of this spectacular trolling Cryptic, well done! >:)

Hrm. Do the other ones also have cloaks? I'm not in-game, so I can't check; the Eternal I was testing out earlier didn't seem to have one, so it seems the 31st century ships aren't surprising anyone right now.

Can't be sure, I've only bought the Theseus as opposed to the pack.

Would be interesting to hear from anyone who has bought any of the others on this matter.

Id like to get an answer on this as well. I'm about to throw down some cash on the Eternal class, but if the 26th century ones can cloak, I may have to rethink things.

Also, do the 26th century ones have a new bridge?

That they do! The new bridge for 26th century ships is called the Universe bridge. I haven't been able to actually check it out (at work right now), but I saw it when I was mucking around a few minutes before I left this morning.

I don't know if the 31st century ships have a unique bridge but, considering that all the new Kelvin ships have their own bridge along with the 23rd/26th century ones, I would assume the 31st century ships get one too!

They do, but (to my eyes at least), it's appallingly ugly. No chairs whatsoever, doesn't look even slightly Fed to me and in the case of my ship seems far too big for an escort bridge. All of that said, you can use any of the other standard bridge options instead, so I've opted for a Defiant one which seems to fit far better. I certainly wouldn't be inclined to make a purchase decision based on the new bridge alone.

The bridge is a bonus. What I really want to know about is that cloak.

I bought the big pack but I have only used the T6 Battle Cruiser Paladin Class and I was surprised as well that it had a cloak. And for anyone wanting to know it is an awesome ship. I will test out the rest of the ships tomorrow.
  • makocallowaymakocalloway Member Posts: 455 Arc User
Ok if the 26th century ones can and the 32nd ones can't I'm going to be annoyed.

Interesting, so it is starting to look as if all of the 26th Century ships have surprise in-built cloaks then.

There's a few inaccuracies in the blog stats and even the listed stats for the ships in game. All of the 31st century ships can load dual cannons for example, while only the Ouroboros is listed as capable of doing so. And it isn't stated anywhere that the 31st century ships use the wells bridge as far as I can find.

Please let this be working as intended, and if not, don't take it away!

I can't believe my Paladin comes with built-in cloak too if what you all say is true, and you bet it's the first thing I'm testing tomorrow morning.

Wow, if they do have a cloak then that has put them up a bit in my assessment.
Wouldn't have bothered with them until now as I've just gotten used to using my Intel ships with their cloaks, but now they are looking quite interesting.

yeah, if their not supposed to have the cloak should be removed. actually should probably be removed period, but I'm too tired to rant today

I remember something like this happening before. It was on the...Monbosh I think? They had copy/pasted the general template from the KDF battlecruisers and then made tweaks to it but forgot to remove the cloak. They did remove the cloak later, much to the anger of people who bought the ship because it had a cloak.

So while I do like that my Paladin has a cloak on it, I'll be expecting it to be removed.

My Paladin does have basic built-in cloak after testing, and have let everyone know about this discovery so at least one might even be more inclined to buy them. I hope it stays put, and that the other ships get it too.

I've been used to (spoiled by) cloaking Feds since the intel ships, yet still never bought the console cloak for making a battle cloaking defiant or a cloaking Avenger/Arbiter & T6 GalX. Battle cloaks are also built into the tadaari, daemosh, and nakuhl and available for all factions, so now what was ultra rare for Feds (Voth Battle Cloak) is now built-in and in endless supply.

If power creep would have been consistent, Roms and KDFs would have phase-shifting enhanced battle cloaks by now built in, or at least Rom battlecloaks that can fire for a few seconds during cloak like the Scimitar console.

I wonder if the Paladin is supposed to have it just because it's a battle cruiser in the same vain as the Arbiter and the Avenger.

that would be odd since nether has it built in.

It'd be neat if, as a consolation (if the cloaks do get removed), these ships were given the ability to at least equip the cloaking device console.
I dunno, I kinda dig them being able to cloak cuz lore would technically support it, y'know?

the lore supports the 31c ships but not the 26c. little to early in the timeline.

Actually, I'm pretty sure by the 26th century, the Klingons and the Romulans are already part of the Federation (this is the same time period that the Enterprise-J is from, and it has Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans, even Xindi, as crewmembers).

I mean, wouldn't it make sense for a temporal ship to have a cloak anyway, to limit any contamination of the timeline?
