Wondering if we will get Nero's ship, The Nerada. Haven't seen any info.

Most likely never because this thing is huge (between 5 and 6 miles long, officially), so not only impractical to fly but dwarfing every other ship and having a colossal collision box.

I am expecting it either hopefully as a C-Store ship due to the lack of a Romulan Carrier or more likely in a future lockbox as the Tier 6 version of Tal Shiar Adapted ships.

Probably a super prize box like the Annorax.

It's about 9 Km long. So unlikely.
For comparison the Tholian Tarantula is about 2 Km, the Dominion Dreadnought 1.5 Km, and the Ent J is 3.2 Km. The only ship that comes close is the Voth Citadel at approximately 9 Km.

The Narada and the Voth Citadel dreadnought are about the same size.

...Why do I have this feeling that both of these ships will be playable at some point? If there's enough demand, money is to be made. Cryptic will find a way. :D

The Nerada is a prime universe ship, so even if they could put it's huge size in the game, it would have to be cstore.

Not revealing my sources. But if they are correct, it will be in a future Kelvin lockbox. Of course this could be all speculation on their part.

It is the prototype for the Tal Shiar Adapted ships. Just because it is from the Prime Universe doesn't mean that it will be in the C-Store. We have the Cardassian, Tal Shiar, Hirogen, Voth, and Undine Lockbox ships that don't have a Tier 6 version. The Narada could be the Tier 6 version of the Tal Shiar Adapted ships.

I could see it getting added with the design used for romulan varrier, but than scaled back in size, I could see it done kinda like the Kelvin lockbox lobi-ship, in that it would be a exclusive romulan ship you can purchase with lobi or purchasing a discounted pack that contains the ship's console an ship trait. Than I could see a similar concept done for a Ferasian ship, which might be either a science ship or a raider of some kind, later on that is KDF exclusive like the Atrox for the Caitian is.

    It's just speculation.

The evidence was a post on Twitter where someone asked Borticus why the Narada wasn't included in the Kelvin lock box.
Bryan Wall: @BorticusCryptic Is there any reason why the Narada wasn't chosen/put in the new lockbox?
Jeremy Randall: @Bryan_Wall For one thing, too dang big. 8-10km, according to canon sources.

I couldn't find anything where a dev specifically said "no" to a Narada. Just that it was too big for a lock box. But the implication is there won't be one available since it's way too big, much like the Enterprise J. Edit: But that doesn't mean they won't create new playable ships based on a Narada or Enterprise J.

There are no size restrictions on fitting ships into Lockboxes. It's just like a Tardis in there. So when he says 'It's too dang big' it is too big PERIOD.

I still think they can do it if they really wanted to, STO in many instances makes ship sizes rather different from what they are in canon already. So what if they make it only just a slight bit bigger than what we already have in the game? I'd sure be happy.
  • starkaosstarkaos Member Posts: 11,556 Arc User
If the ship is too dang big, then shrink it down to a more reasonable size. With the way scaling works in this game, the shuttles are too dang big for their canon size. The Narada should be bigger than at least 95% of the playable ships in the game, but it doesn't need to be 8 to 10 km.

Yeah, I find it kind of funny that Cryptic suddenly cares about "canon" scaling with the Narada after the song and dance routine that scaling doesn't matter for STO since the ships in the shows/movies were always wildly inconsistent with one another.

Therefore, who gives a TRIBBLE about the size of the Narada. Just make it about as big as the Jupiter and call it a day.

The only people who will care that it isn't as big as it is in the movie are the people you shouldn't really be listening to anyway.

well, the Narada was originally something (mining vessel i think) before it become a nest of spindly things... why not use that and have it be Rom's first actual carrier?

Exactly! Though I think it should just be a "slight" bit bigger at least than the adapted battlecruiser we have now, otherwise yeah that would be odd.

So in the end, Cryptic really shouldn't be seeing this when they think of the Narada,

I personally wouldn't want the ship, but I recognize that there are players who do. IMHO, they should make it the size of the Tarantula and leave it at that.

Just make it a T6 version of the Adapted Battlecruiser and be done with it. That's essentially what it is pretty much and I'm sure that's where the inspiration for those Tal Shiar ships came from.

Size really doesn't matter in STO as you've got all sorts of odd sizing issues already.

    Kelvin Timeline lockbox II

Fed: Heavy Command Cruiser refit (the refit from Beyond)

KDF: Intel Warbird Carrier (D7 warbird with single hanger)

Rom: some AR science warbird or something

Lobi: Adapted Dreadnought Cruiser (the Nerada but the size of the Trantula) exclusively for Romulans (as they built it) and Klingons (as they captured it) and not Starfleet (as they get the exclusive Vengeance)

T'Laru is design fail, trust me. Why not Narada type Assimilated romulan carrier in about 2,5 km size?

I'd like to see "Hunt the Nerada" as an STF. For players it would be what? T9?
