Anyone else disapointed by the fact that for this event we are using the same old T1/T4 ships?

Now hear me out,im not asking for free T6 ships,nope...but i dont know why we are stuck using our ships which we have used over over while leveling our numerous characters.

yeah i know if i want those ships i should buy the pack but for some of us well we are not buying the packs, sick and tired of ships being considered content in this game, they are basically glorified mounts.
make the ships in the pack more powerful for all i care but for leveling purposes we should get some variations on the ships from the pack,i mean

im not going to spend any money buying some ships which will last me for like 2 hours, seriously what purpose do the t1 to t4 ships have?
you use them while leveling and then you forget all about them, this as i see it is one major flaw with aoy,its going to really kill my immersion in the even...so im an agent of yesterday yet come level 10 im stuck with the same ships i have used before to level my new character,im just not feeling it.

not asking for handouts,as i said before make the t1 to t4 ships in the pack as powerful as a t6 for all i care, but for leveling purposes the players who arent going to buy the pack are royally screwed.

anyway this is my opinion on the matter.

it's free to play not free to get new gadgets ... the ships in pack are good for their consoles and admirallty. if we like to level up more then one char ,than the 2 hours multiply itself ...

    good point,but what about subs?

as far as i know subs arent getting ships either...

and seriously how many more characters are you going to level?
plus the t1 to t4 ships arent available for all classes, you dont get a choice of the type of ship for each tier, take tier 2 for example you are stuck with a science ship, just doesnt make sense.

I am. The disappointment comes not from a financial thing but because of the reason why we don't get them. It's because this is just an alternate tutorial not a faction. We are done at level 10 before we need any new ships.

*looks at all the TOS style ships in his Temporal Operative Pack*

Nope, I'll be using new ships the entire time I level ...

Every game needs a way to monetize it's expansions. WoW (my prefered MMO model) charges a box price and your done. STO charges you for new ships, at a significantly higher price compared to boxed expansions to compensate for all the F2P people who don't spend a dime.

Well I feel abit sad for the people not able to getting the Timepack, but them not making anymore ships was to be expected because its essentially just a special type of Fed char.
Still to be fair riding those retro style ships in the future will feel abit awkward in itself though XD

So far I'm only doing the AOY until I get past the starting story Arc. After that it will become a "Bank" character. So I can clean inventory out on some my others. I really don't have much a desire to level the AOY character at this time. As I have to go through all the Arcs again. Just to find a bit of stuff here and there to make it different. So really its not a faction at all. Just a recruit event. Lastly there is no good ships to use so I'm using the same ones all over again. With the JJ fans getting their ships. And the ones who been calling for their Connie for yrs got nothing. Once again I see a reason not to level the AOY. As I wanted them in the T6 Connie or Connie Refit. So far I could use the Excelsior or one of the Command Battlecruisers, but time will tell. As I'm working on my other characters at this time.

I had hopes for AOY to be something really great. What a huge let down!

to be honest this event isnt as bad as the one swtor just released.

if you want to get all the goodies from said event you need to level 8 characters!!

yeah, you read 8,8 class stories you have to go thru again.

this is the main reason i hate theme park mmos because at one point or another you run out of content but in a sandbow one you are the one to make the content.
guess this generation of players is just to lazy and wants everything chewed up and fed to them, here comes in handy a little lego analogy i thought of the other day.

back when i was a kid i loved to play with legos,we didnt have no star wars or lord of the rings ip atached to the boxes,we simply got a lot of pieces and it was up to us and our imagination to build whatever i wanted.
these days you get a box of legos of star wars for example with a bunch of piece and the instructions, you build the ship following the guidelines and then you're done, cant really build anything else because the ammount of pieces are the ones you need to build that ship,so imagination and creativity go out the window.

this is the same with mmos, sandbox mmos are the old boxes filled with pieces of lego and themepark mmos is just your garden variety build your ip vehicule box.

I was expecting to see a whole new Lv 1-60 experience. That way we can be Temporal Agents. Only visiting some of the events of STO timeline. In our attempts to stop the bad guys from messing with the time line from past to future. This is what I was expecting when news first broke out. Instead we get nothing but a repeater. So in this case, we really are not much of Temporal Agents, more like a crew displaced into a new era.

if we were actually levelling in the TOS era... I could see this cmplaint.... as we're not moving past MAYBE level 10 there.... Sorry, theres just no point.

I have a romulan who completed all the missions through Takedown at the end of Delta Rising in a tier 1 T'liss. There are fleets that organize t2 elite queues. I know several people who level romulans to 45 then delete them then repeat over and over to farm purple quality bridge officers with Superior Romulan Operative to sell on the auctionhouse (I do this from time to time myself). And I know others who level characters to 30 then join them to a fleet, cash in the free fleet dilithium vouchers from the delta recruit event, delete the character and repeat. When I help people who are new to the game, I pull out a ship of their tier to join them in-mission.

There are many ways that tier 1-4 ships are useful. They may not fit with your personal play style, but there are definitely players who get plenty of use out of them.

Also, there are new temporal t6 ships, so you don't need to go back to your previous collection. I know I'm looking at my AoY character probably ending up in a Nautilus.

I am a bit disappointed, yeah.

When Cryptic posted one of those story blogs, which mentioned the Enterprises often being involved in temporal troubles, I had hoped we might visit the era of each one; and get new era appropriate ships from them (so a new TMP era ship, an new Excelsior era ship, Ambassador, etc). Even if they were just kitbashes.

Then, when I heard rumors of Kelvin timeline ships, I hoped Cryptic might take some inspiration from those; and make retro looking ships (circular saucers, cylindrical nacelles, etc), that didn't actually look like they came from the 1970s (I do like the look of the new TOS ships, but they do kinda clash with STO's overall style).

And, like many people I suppose, I assumed AoY would come with a full set of free TOS leveling ships; just like the Romulans got free Romulan ships to go with their C-Store refits and retrofits.

It can be tough being an optimist around this game sometimes. :D

Saying it everywhere I can, so Al will read it and change his mind in a week. They felt the JJ Connie was so awesome, it could be Tier 6. Well, I also think its so awesome, it could have bern the first T4 stat ship that was available at T1, so you could get a mich longer use out of it as you ranked up, sell it on the C Store, and watch the mega bucks role in because it was the best value low tier ship in the fleet.

I'd level dozens more if I could, perhaps hundreds. I'm an altaholic, it's what I do.

Unfortunately, Cryptic has a cap on the number of character slots that can be purchased so that won't happen.

    Unless Cryptic increase the cap.

I just need the AOY toon to unlock the reward (in fact, the rep reward); whatever ships he will use, even a flying trash, it does not matter, at lvl50 or +, he will be deleted.

The only thing I am sad about is that the Pioneer has no Tier 6 version. It's a fun little ship, and a 27th century style design on top of it would be neat, too.

You might not want to delete the Temporal Recruit at 50. There are quite a few unlocks that can only occur after 50, and actually after 60.

bah! the only interesting for me is the rep reward, and if I keep this toon too many time, I wouldn't be able to delete him. It happened for the delta event. this is why I have too many characters :p + I have no plan to buy something for a fed. most of my toons are rom or kdf. i'm not a fed player.

Buy a Constellation Class. That way you can move from a TOS ship to a endegame capable (the fleet T5U Heavy Cruiser) TMP era ship one that doesn't look embarrassingly hideous (like the Excelsior)

I have a total of three Silver accounts in here (two of them because I needed Silver accounts in CO to test changes to character creation, and that automatically gave me those accounts here as well). I have one available slot on my main account; the others are full up, and I've deleted toons on more than one occasion. (Secondary account hosts Subadmiral Tovan Khev, who might go adventuring again after I get him his new Escort this summer; tertiary account is the home of Fleet Admiral Grunt, my favorite Ferengi deviant - that is, deviant for a Ferengi, as he considers the lives of his friends and crewmates to be more important than profit).

I like leveling new toons. Changing careers, changing ship types, experimenting with the new skill system - every character plays differently, even though they're all going through the same adventures.
