A Little assist?

sqbodensqboden Member Posts: 12 Arc User
So straight to the point. I broke several fingers in my "piloting hand" and can only with difficulty pilot in straight lines with very large turns. Not really my style. So for the next several weeks (month or so) I'm basically stuck on ground missions and Risa. Any suggestions on missions that I can play to keep going during my recovery time? All i can think of is Kobali, Bug Hunt, Nukara, and maybe soloing some of the old ground fleet actions.

Injuries on Risa are scarily common some of the floater accidents alone are quite shocking.

If you press in both of the mouse buttons you can change/move in that direction and fire weapons with your thumb but i am assuming you pilot with your left hand on the wasd keys.

Assuming correct, I tried mouse piloting, not bad for bumper cars. I up for giving it another go.

Sounds like a new-born carrier pilot to me :)

6x beam arrays (either pick a damage type with 2x omni-beams or throw the kinetic-cutting-beam on), 2x hangers of fighters or shuttles, which depends on your faction, would recommend the shuttles personally mainly because they don't die as often as fighters and their omni-beam arrays mean they can fly wherever they like and still hit (mostly).

Also, main point people trying carriers out forget often and die because of.

    DO NOT STOP MOVING !

Carriers do not do well as mini-starbase's they don't have the hitpoints or the defense whilst sitting still. Big, slow turns will keep you alive and more importantly keep you away from stuff exploding ;)

Fit loads of hull and shield heals, you can always use them on your pets or team-mates if you don't need them for you.

Full carriers perform better with frigate hangars...
Add to it Fleet Support with Improved Command Frequency trait
and Nimbus Pirate Distress Call (or Delta Squad Call)
    - i'm using this combination on my Breen Sar Thelm (name may be wrong..) carrier and just breezed through
The Delta Quadrant episodes on my Romulan Scientist (which gives me Photonic Fleet too) last sunday.

Actually full carriers do not perform better with frigate hangers, you'll spend alot of time either launching replacements because they just have to fly through all those warp core breaches or healing them because they got too close to something exploding.

I have used several carriers, my orion science officer's (dil store) slavers usually kill stuff as fast as her vo'quv does, My alien fed science officer in the JHDC has to really go all out or his (fleet store) fighters blow stuff up before he even gets into range.
I have a vulcan tactical officer in an escort-carrier and had to switch the ship and the hanger from AP because she started to pretty much solo whatever queues I put her into and I hadn't even started to upgrade anything on it. She still kills stuff ridiculously fast with phaser beam arrays and type 8 shuttles.
I put a nausicaan (that I since deleted) into a vo'quv using cannons with BoP hangers and he killed stuff faster then the BoPs did.

I have used the breen carrier, but do not unfortunately have access to the frigates, the breen fighters are nasty and smart enough to actually stay in the enemies rear arcs, mostly.

Do not under estimate fighters, especially restricted ones, at dil store level they are awesome and at fleet store level they can do better then the carrier itself or other players.

I do agree that science captains seem to do better with carriers, the photonic fleet can pull the heat of both you and your fighters which means you get some breathing room.

Actually been playing the game since shortly after launch, that is just my preferred method of piloting, after 5 or so years its a hard habit to break. The point of the post was not to ask about ship builds and strategy. I was just looking for additional ideas while I'm gimped. ground missions I may have forgotten about, for example. or interesting things to do with doffs, things like this.

Dyson ground battlezone. The old tau dewa patrols should be doable. If you park right above the first mob in those patrols you can reach all the mobs that spawn without moving.

You could also try reprogramming movement to the arrows or numberpad temporarily and reset once un-gimped.

    This is true.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D
