Some weapons level up with character, like the Connie phasers. At what point do such weapons become mk xiv?

    They don't, they usually top out at XI I think, but instantly become XII if you drop them in the upgrade window, you gotta manually upgrade them past that

    They top out at MK X stats while they still have the ∞ showing. Drop them into to the upgrade window to get bumped to MK XII for free.

    So, they don't even upgrade to mk xiv (for free) if you do it manually? the only way to get them to mk xiv is if you go about it the same way you would with any other weapon?

    Yep. If you want to see XIII or XIV then you'll have to do it with upgrade kits. Completely reasonable actually.

    One could argue that it's reasonable. However, if I am going to spend 500 zen just to get the phasers off the Connie, then I think it would be reasonable that they should be able to get to mk xiv. At least now I know. I guess I'll just replay the mission and get them free instead.
