Just curious as to other Romulan players thoughts on the upcoming expansion.

Me, thus far it is everything I don't want to see happening in STO.

Strangely enough Im still on the hype train, trying to make the throttle go past the stops, and planning to spend the $130.

All that despite knowing it will be hack job writing, full of bugs, and abandoned shortly after release.

130$ ??? I'd rather apply that kind of money to bills, food, or education. I've already spent way too much money on this game. Dont get me wrong, I love the game, I just cant justify the kind of expenses promoted in various and vicarious ways that ARC pushes. That is probably why I'm not on very much any more.

I will not participate, at least from what I have seen, so far. I feel that this is simply a way to ignore extant issues, with the game.

oh trust me... I get what yer sayin and where you're comin from... and literally ANY other time than this you'll NEVER see me throw out $50 for a full brand new game! I am a cheap TRIBBLE :P I don't even know why I'm so hyped for this expansion... [Unnecessary insults removed]

I don't really play Fed characters (I do have 2, they are ignored 99% of the time), so most of what is in it has zero appeal to me. The agnostic ships just make me angry, as they are basically a Romulan ship and a KDF ship being handed over to the Fed side with Starfleet style designs. Which just makes me feel like the not fed factions are not just being ignored, but slowly going to be absorbed into the United Federation of Planets.

On a side note, I started playing Final Fantasy XIV over this last weekend, and not only is it great, and pretty, it showed me how horrible STO is as a game in general. No lag, run the game on max (MAX!) settings with no problems. I think I had to lower my settings from max on STO, I tried it when I got my shinny new alienware like 8 months ago.

I have been, and I know, which is probably part of the reason I have been playing less.
I think it wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't know that UFP is basically means humans, and how they see/do things, I am not saying that they burn and destroy all cultures, it's just they are the primary, everything revolves around them. Even though Starfleet is just the military wing, it's basically all human designed ships. Also that Cryptic just wants a single faction game because it is easier.

(and honestly, an MMO can be single faction, it can work, but I don't know that Star Trek is a place that works well, or at all.)

I am just upset there are so few Romulan ships in general, I think we really need to realize cryptic will only be supporting feds for the most part. But is there anyway we can fix this.. Or at least get enough, that we don't end up in a continuous state of self for filled prophecy, were new people will not make characters romulans or klingons because they don't get any new ships etc. But a question is, would romulan or klingon ships sell well on fed characters. Well if lockboxs are any indication then yes.

As much as I love the Romulans in general, I'm also a fan of TOS. So in general, I'm excited for the new expansion.

It seems as well that the TOS stuff is going to be a new faction as well, which is fine with me. It keeps the TOS stuff somewhat separate from the general Fed gameplay, which is ideal in my eyes. I think Cryptic is doing a good job with implementing this, from the information we've seen so far. I can't say anything has really stood out as a problem for me so far - really, everything I've seen has been exciting.

frankly Im more worried by these new 'faction agnostic' ships.... cryptic now has a way to completely disregard KDF and RR ships

Agreed 100%. "Faction agnostic" ships remind me of Ambrose Bierce's definition of compromise in "The Devil's Dictionary":

    Compromise
    n. Such an adjustment of conflicting interests as gives each adversary the satisfaction of thinking he has got what he ought not to have, and is deprived of nothing except what was justly his due.

Or as that prolific philosopher Anon  put it:
"Compromise is where nobody gets what they want.”

    —Anon

But on topic, I like that they're doing TOS in the expansion, as for me it's the most "Star Trek" Star Trek. All but one of my characters is TOS (Roms, Feds, Klingon and Gorn). I'm especially glad to see the TOS-ified Gorn in one of the screenies - I think my Gorn character has a serious jaunt to the tailor coming.

I did spend that 130 on the pack and then freaked out because I'd needed that money for new glasses, but all worked itself out. Meanwhile, I want the uniforms, and I want that cross-faction science ship. I'll deal with the fact that it's a Fed style, I don't even care. I need a science ship, and I now will have tons of admiralty cards.

That being said, it's a pile of horse s**t that KDF and Rom got screwed over in this deal. And I've heard through a source who knows someone that the stuff that's on Tribble might as well have been written by a child, it's that horrible. That doesn't give me hope, but I can't say I'm surprised. After Midnight, the writing has declined and become overly predictable and rushed. I mean, this latest episode was on the same level of predictableness as a telenovela. And that's saying something.

I feel like the devs are rushing this expansion out in a desperate bid to keep people from leaving and to keep people happy with new stuff and a new pack. Yes, they'll make money, but at what cost? If the subscribers spread the word about how horrible the new content is on Tribble, can you imagine how little people on Holodeck will invest in it?

Sorry, didn't mean to write a small essay on the subject, but I hate that I wasted money on a crappy expansion when I could have used it to buy glasses instead of saving up a month and a half's worth of paychecks to get them.

My own pwersonal hype train has finally slowed down as well, considered not getting the $130 but thought about the t6 sci ship, and both the tos and t6 bc and what they'd cost to snag the 3 of em and realized... might as well go ahead an get the $130 pack.

Well... I'm a lifetime member, who loves Romulans (still not sure why - given the fact that they are devious and xenophobic... yet reading Diane Duane's Rihannsu makes me happy, and makes me fall in love with the citizens of this glorious Empire :D ), and I absolutely love the art of TOS. In all honesty - with so many people liking the refitted Connie - I myself have always liked the ships from TOS the most. Due to that fact alone - I am insanely happy to see this expansion - as long as it will fit the universe of 25th century.

Actually I'm so hyped, that I did quite a lot to be able to spend the 130 Euro on the pack... for some reason it's region-locked, and I couldn't even see the content of the pack in Poland. However... since I travel a lot on business - I was able to make the online purchase when I was browsing STO page in a hotel in Hungary :D. Therefore I am a happy owner of preorder... and PWE is a happy owner of my money ;).

Having said that - I would love to see at least some TOS content for the Klingons, and especially Romulans. I doubt it's ever going to happen, but still - that's something that would be great to see in game. I could also see (hear :) ) Vic Mignogna as Kirk in this expansion. I think he does a great job at Star Trek Continues, as well as he did an amazing job voicing the trailer for the new expansion. So given the fact, that Shatner is rather sceptical towards STO (so in other words: no way he's going to voice anything) Vic seems like the most awesome choice. A logical one :).

Sorry for the long post :).

I prefer playing my KDF aligned Rom over any of my other chars. I only have one Fed, a Delta Recruit. Still I am looking forward to the expansion. I grew up with TOS. So I am enthused about being able to wander around in it far more than just walking the decks of 1701.

All of the negativity and disparagement posted in these forums about this topic is bothersome. Especially when it comes from people who allege they are fans of Star Trek. The money thing I get. US $130.00 is a lot of cash for a game. The other comments are opinions. Which people are allowed to have. But I sometimes wish they would exercise some restraint before firing off yet another rage fest about how Cryptic and this game and its players have all conspired to ruin thier whole lives because the Devs did not add in something or other to the game just for them.

I'm going to spend the cash, play the expansion, and enjoy myself while doing both. Because this is game I like. I am not blind to its flaws. And if the expansion means I have to play on the Blue Side for awhile, I'm okay with it.

I'd rather play the game I have than sit around bitchin' in public about the game I wish I had. Because no game developer on the planet could ever give me that game. And if any game company is ever able to do so, the subscription fees and system requirements will be through the roof.

I stop enjoying the game a longtime ago simply because i always wanted to play Rom, but since the beginning of the game i didn't have that, i settle for Vulcans which was cool. My problem with this game is that races dosen't matter, because every only speaks like a human. even if you have a vulcan character you do not get to speak logical. Take the Rom dailies patrol mission, the quest giver alwasy say my people even though you yourself is a rom, and it not only her, but alot others in the game do that as well. which makes you feel disconnected from the game. In other mmo that i have played and they had Factions and race you always get the faction and race dailog. Than we have Rom missing ships, i do not want even say anything about what have already be said. its clearly the dev and the story written all love Fed because it the most easy way for them.

Negative. It's just a range target for Federation players in their new, parallel levelling expansion and new, shiny mission set.

(Oh sure, they say 'cross faction' but anyone who's fiddled with Tribble could do the same thing Cryptic does to make it 'cross faction' by inserting [rank] instead of "Captain" in the dialogue.)

Remember, with the end of the Klingon/Federation War, Cryptic was no longer "Forced" to make Faction-specific content-so they go ahead, and for the 50th anniversary, make a whole expansion of nothing BUT Federation-specific content. They weren't "Forced" to do this, it's just that 30% of the playerbase isn't worth more than 5% of their paid time and effort.

Welcome to the undercarriage of the bus, Romulan Players. It isn't going to get better.

The Republic stretches out her hands to the Klingon, Cardassian, and Federation seperatist, brothers & sisters. >:)

I'm a romulan player, and personally i'm not interested at all by all the TOS stuff, first of all I hate the tv show (Kirk is pitiful), and i don't like the aesthetic which is outdated and for a huge part ridiculous. I prefer Cryptic's design.

Claiming that the aesthetic of TOS is outdated sounds rather hypocritical coming from someone whose avatar is Robby the Robot, who predates TOS by a decade, and made his debut in "Forbidden Planet" (one of my all-time favourite movies, BTW), the movie which inspired TOS.

If you don't like TOS, that's your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it; but don't try to claim that you don't like it because it's outdated, when your own avatar is even MORE outdated.
