    Gotta love 'Geko Logic':

    - We got the standard "STO has too much content.." line again

    - Then there's "We'll be putting PvE queues in rotation maybe days, a week, IDK..."
    ^^^
Yep, that's certainly going to improve player participation in STO overall. Sorry but I don't think the logic of "Let's rotate out the PvE queues STO players like to play (for whatever reason they like to play them) and the players will go play other queues.." <-- Personally I doubt that will be the result. Take away content players enjoy and they'll either:

    - Play other content they like in the game (not necessarily another PvE queue either)
    or
    - Go play ANOTHER (not STO) game that isn't eremoving content RATHER THEN ADJUSTING OR FIXING CONTENT TO MAKE IT ATTRACTVE TO PLAYERS.
    ^^^
IMO - That's what Mr. Rivera should be working on - not ion a sense punishing the playerbase for not playing STO the way he thinks it should be played. But he that's been Mr. Rivera's 'go to' strategy from day one. 'Play MY way...or else.."

But hey; I suppose for some:

"Al Rivera's STO game design philosophy is the best design philosophy yet...and the players love it." ;)

I don't think it's that difficult to understand why Geko is considering it. He explains it reasonably well. It has nothing to do with him wanting players to play the game his way.

Every player can play only one queue at a time. The more queues the are, the less will queue up for a specific one, and the longer the wait times will be. The safest strategy for the players is thus either to focus on a small number of queues, or not bother at all if there are alternatives to them. Even a tiny reward/time or fun advantage for one queue will magnify itself considerably.
Reducing the amount of queues available at any given time will increase the amount of players that queue up for one.

Of course, if the queue is sh*t, it won't be played either, but that will still be born out by the numbers even if it's the only queue for one particular rep available, and can prompt new action - how can these queues be made more attractive? But there will always be subjective and objective differences between the queues, and it is not possible to eliminate that. But as long as they exist, people will flog to the optimum. It's a self-reinforcing effect.

But in the end, no content is removed. It will just not be available all the time. But people will still see a lot of variability - quite possible a lot more than they currently do, since there are currently only a tiny subset of queues that will regularly pop at all.

If I see a "-:-" for wait times for a queue, I don't bother queuing up for it. That means I can try to run Gates of Grethor, but i can forget about the Herald Sphere, at least the past few days I did.

Personally, I prefer the idea of just increasing the rewards for a queue in a rotation. And I like the idea that whatever they do, the Private Queues will be unaffected.
I am not sure if just bonus marks and/or Dilithium will do the trick.
I would also look into boosting Elite Marks or adding another special currency that has a long-term type reputation project. Similar to the Special Event Queues now, but not restricted to one queue. Maybe each day you can earn one of these "Featured Task Force Token", and if you got 14 or whatever you get a neat bonus payout, maybe including a small number of Elite Marks of your choice.

There are also other interesting things talked about in the podcast. I've heard it yesterday, so I can't promise I remember all the details correctly.

Tiny Developer tidbit: Apparently, a Sprint is 6 weeks?
The stuff he talks about is partially considered likely for this year, but he also knows that you never know when exactly something comes out. They knew they wanted to make a Skill Revamp years ago (Borticus mentioned that before, too), and they considered several seasons as potential releases for it - but they only managed to schedule it for Season 11(.5) because that season had not much for Systems yet, so the capacities were there.

He mentions the sprint length in regards to how more difficult it is to make a Ground Battle Zone, Apparently 3 Sprints or so go into this? He would like to "fix"/improve Defera, but that won't happen unless they start doing new Borg stuff. There was more stuff planned for Defera, but it never happened. He seems to imply that fixing a ground zone can be as hard as making it in the first place.
He also mentions that he thinks the early Klingon content would be up for a revamp at some point. He specifically mentions the Fek'lhr arc.*

Crafting Updates are planned, Geko seems to think the Upgrades are not paying out enough research points (Not entirely sure if he specifically means the Experimental ones only. I would definitely agree there, it's ridicilous compared to the difficulty of getting them). Also, apparently something with mod-selection is also considered. Also, they apparently have ideas for a new crafting school.

Exploration System -they are actually working on something for this. It's in the early stages, not anything in development but they consider it a high priority, and apparently the concept they currently have seems to make them happy.

Even though he might see the Exploration System higher priority than Crafting Updates, the latter seem more likely to be out sooner.

They have plans/ideas for future expansions, but no specific dates for it.

New Factions will either be like the Romulan Faction, or even go a step further: Starting at Level 50. He explains that a new faction in the Romulan fashion is basically a great acquisition strategy, but it's also very costly - you need to make another tutorial for that faction, and you need to probably create an early game (including ships) for them. A Level 50+ faction would avoid that, but it is more a retention than an acquisition thing, since only existing players would benefit directly from it. A full faction like the KDF will likely never happen again, and the Romulans will also likely never be turned into one.
Cardassian, Dominion, Borg are all mentioned as possible faction. (Yes, Borg. I don't think he specified if it would be Cooperative or "real" Borg, but I think it's easy to predict that it would be Cooperative or something similar, since the Borg are on their own are still antagonist and are unlikely to join the Delta Alliance and fight the same battles and on the same aide as we do).

In General, they have plans for more than just one year, but the further in the future, the less certain things are. Which is pretty much like it works everywhere, doesn't it?

*) How about a Fek'lhr Lockbox to "monetize" it. The Kar'Fi Carrier might remain C-Store ship only available to Klingons, but there is a nice Dreadnought and Escort in there, too! And the Kar'Fi could use a Tier 6 version.

Thank you for the interview P1.

As a torpedo boat captain, and a player that does not use energy weapons I am acutely aware of the importance of DPS in higher level content-especially the timed content.

I'm not a DPS'er but I'd respectfully disagree with Mr. Rivera when he mentions that one does not need to chase DPS. In some form or another one does if one wants to participate in and complete Elite space content, which also awards salvaged technology. I do not participate in some Elite space combat as I know that I would not be contributing my fair share toward successfully completing the mission. I appreciate that I do not need to worry about this for ground missions, which is a reason why I mainly run ground missions now.

It is worth mentioning again that I support adding rewards to queues instead of rotating queues in and out. I'm not overwhelmed by choice, I'd actually like more ground and +20 player queues. From what I read, at least one mission the Nukara Tendencies mission is bugged, while completing objectives (the technician protection phase) and successfully finishing another ground mission like Assault on Terok Nor Elite seems to be out of the realm of a majority of the player base (I see no calls for it on public or entry level Elite channels nor do I see people queuing for it), unlike Brotherhood of the Sword Elite.

I hope they do allow us to choose the mods when crafting an item, making 50+ just for [DMG] mods is abit....over the top, i prefer always active type of mods, like DMG, Pen and if you have a high crit chance, CrtD, but i prefer focusing on plain damage increases, like DMG and Pen.

You might say, but you can get a 50% to crit, that doesn't mean you will crit, its like when i upgrading my gear from say Mk II to Mk XIV or something like that and each time i have 20% chance to upgrade to the next quality level and it never happens and when i try another Mk II item and it has the basic chance, like 5% and that goes all the way to EPIC by Mk X, its totally unreliable and a waste of EC to buy the Research Boosters, its more worth it to get the Technology Point Boosters, you ALWAYS get what it says, but having 20% chance to get the next quality up, doesn't mean you WILL get it.

I do not want to get 100% chance to get to EPIC fast everytime, but i would expect a 20% chance to be a better chance than 5%...if you know what i mean.
