Interested, but I want to see some T6 love for the TOS ship. Even if it's just skins for existing ships...."holograms" or whatever to fit in. Looksy, all these pretty TOS themed ships that (based on The Delta event) you will be in for MAYBE a week TOTAL before you are T5+?
I mean T6 Fed Dreadnought:
Or what about cross faction love for species that used to be their own empires, not subservant to Klingons? Like some TOS Gorn ships?
Remember that just like the other expansions, this is just the bulk of the ships that will be available at launch. I fully expect to see the 23rd/29th Century Dreadnought announcement coming at some point before we go live, and likely some T5/T6 upgraded versions of the lower-tier ships for 23rd century use. That's if the TOS storyline isn't just a portal to getting a captain to the main storyline somehow (which is sadly very likely, as much as I would LOVE to see concurrent TOS and 2410 universes to play in for perpetuity).
Based on what little info we have, we are getting a TOS Starfleet mini-faction...
In addition to the ability to create a brand new Star Trek: The Original Series Starfleet captain
...with unknown connection to current factions and a set of TOS ships at T1-5...
I’m excited to announce the Temporal Special Agent Pack and the Temporal Agent Starter Pack! These packs will ensure that any TOS era captain has the tools, personnel, and the starships to give you the edge you’ll need against the unknown.
Captains that choose the Temporal Special Agent Pack will be able to command five (5) TOS era starships
...and a set of Temporal Operative Specialization ships at T6...
as well as six (6) brand new T6 ships...the remaining six (6) feature not only exciting stats but the new Temporal Bridge Officer seat. These are the only ships that have access to the brand new temporally themed bridge officer powers at a Commander level, and they will also come standard with the new temporal gameplay mechanic that will add depth to gameplay and reward situational awareness...
...with unknown playability for the current factions, but some likelihood of being available...
In addition to the ability to create a brand new Star Trek: The Original Series Starfleet captain, we will be introducing a new episode arc for players of every faction, the Temporal Initiative Resistance Reputation, a Temporal Operative Primary Specialization along with brand new Bridge Officer powers
...in order for the three current factions to actually make use of the Temporal Operative Specialization. That bit could be akin to the Delta Ops Pack/Intelligence and restrict the KDF/Roms to only a single ship for said Specialization, which would only grant KDF/Rom captains token access to the new Specialization... or they could all be TOS or TOS/Fed-only, which would limit use of the new Specialization by faction... or they could all be available cross-faction "Alliance/Galactic Union" vessels. We'll see. I'm still waiting on the missing KDF/Rom Intel Ships, so...
As my @handle might indicate, this does have me interested as far as the theme. I am absolutely looking forward to making a TOS character, along with the Temporal Agent Recruitment system. As a player, however, I loathe faction imbalance in a multi-faction game... so I hope this offers equal access to the non-TOS content for the non-TOS factions.
At this stage, though, they've told us...
This is only the first of many blog posts with detailed information on everything that’s shipping with Agents of Yesterday, so stay tuned and I’ll see you in game!
...that they're going to tell us more. Time to hurry up and wait
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
If this new temporal/delta recruit thing can't be applied to old characters this will be moment that business model snaps.
The expansion could be pretty great. Still waiting for my tier 6 connie refit though.
Quite honestly, if this leaves older characters completely out of the loop Cryptic has stepped in a large pile with a very foul odor.
Availability of the TOS era isn't going to dodge a lot of ill temper over it either.
I find it absolutely typical that they haven't said anything at all regarding it, and also very foreboding.
"IF"this is what has been done, it is an "obvious" tactic to get people to begin at square one and dump 6 tiers of cash into a new character while abandoning everthing thats been spent, and all the time as well on all the old characters.
If.
From the blog:
"...during the first six weeks of launch will also be able to participate in the new Temporal Agent Recruitment system for bonus personal and account-wide rewards, a new iteration of the popular Delta Recruitment system that released a year ago..."
If you'll recall from the last time they did something similar, there were a good many threads dedicated to wondering if the advantages a recruit got would be so overwhelmingly good that it would shift people to having new "main" characters or get left behind. As far as I can tell, this never materialized. I leveled up 1 recruit of each faction through the end of the Defera arc, took the account-wide bonuses on my better-developed characters, and am still playing the same toons I was before Delta Recruiting. Everything about this new event, mechanics-wise has direct precedent in something we've already seen, unless of course you weren't around for the last event.
There isn’t a better way to continue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series than by creating a Starfleet captain and engaging in some amazing adventures in that classic period.
Gonna disagree with you here, Mr. Ricossa. You know what would be an even better way to celebrate the 50th Anniversary?
Including TOS-era Romulans and TOS-era Klingons as playable captains in that classic period.
Did we get more captain slots with this expansion, or do we have to delete a toon or pay for a slot to make a new temporal captain?
I'm also wondering about this. While a free slot (or 10 ) wouldn't be a bad thing, I'm willing to buy more character slots. Unfortunately, I can't purchase anymore character slots due to the current character limit. Increase the limit and I'll be buying more slots in addition to buying the pack.
No increase means no pack and no new character slots purchases.
Hello. My name is iamynaught and I am an altaholic.
I am SO excited about this development. However, can't help but notice; the OS era was famous because of Enterprise - and that's still the tier 1 Light Cruiser we can already have. That's a let down. No OS era T6 ship? Seriously? Do I detect the stink of purchasable extra ships? Otherwise, this made my day.
Fortunately or unfortunately, yes, extra ships as a new bundle already open for purchase/preorder. At least they re-used the aesthetic of the t1 Constitution era to create a full new set of leveling ships, including the Perseus and Ranger-class vessels which are all but higher-tier Connies.
I'll have to pass since they haven't even done anything yet to appease the massive grind of the specialization and mastery system where alts are concerned. So I can't see myself getting involved in this where I would be required to make a new character. Not enough carrot on the stick for me here but good luck anyways.
I will not be so excited like many other players from Everything old is new etc. expansion. Although I looked forward to the Cardassians, but this is not too bad. I will see how I pull my old D-7 from the garage (hail Axanar!) and shooting all these new oldschool feddy boats.
TOS, Phase II, Continues or TAS are not my favourites (except first movie)
Whilst there are a minority of players who must have every shiny new toy, I would be very curious to see just how many will be willing to pay $130 for an expansion pack.
No indication of any content for existing characters, my question remains unanswered.
Except within the first sentence ... clearly describing a new (additional) FE-Series for EVERYONE ... the second sentence mentioning a new Reputation ... the third sentence mentioning a new Specialization, and last but not least the ACCOUNT Rewards you'll get for every toon on your ACCOUNT ... *sigh*
Lol, i'll give you the "FE" arc statement although the rest of it sounds content-lite at best for those older toons i mentioned.
Your happy, i get it, im glad your happy, your also reading more into your posted Cryptic statements than are actually there.
This is a whole reboot for the Z-store, lets call it Temporal Cash, lol.
If you mean content for existing toons in the sense of new missions that only they can play that are sort of a sing-along/companion to the new arc(s) that recruit toons will get, then there is nothing in that sense. But if we're talking novel content unique to this expansion, including benefits that older toons can utilize that didn't exist before this expansion, then there is new content for existing toons. It's not as if a level 1 recruit is going to immediately be able to access stuff like specilaizations and the like, so who, exactly, is that being put in there for at launch?
So, it's looks like a clarification is in order as to what you mean by "new content", so we may all understand the contention.
Whilst there are a minority of players who must have every shiny new toy, I would be very curious to see just how many will be willing to pay $130 for an expansion pack.
a lot actually... and some even purchased the pack before it was officially announced... and this is old news too.. the LoR and DR packs are the same value....
Whilst there are a minority of players who must have every shiny new toy, I would be very curious to see just how many will be willing to pay $130 for an expansion pack.
Hopefully enough people will shell out the money so Cryptic has enough capital get around to releasing a Cardassian or Iotian expansion, which I'd actually dip into my wallet for.
As for this? Not something I'm likely to buy into, but I'll enjoy it all the same.
"a new episode arc for players of every faction, the Temporal Initiative Resistance Reputation, a Temporal Operative Primary Specialization along with brand new Bridge Officer powers. Players who create their captains during the first six weeks of launch will also be able to participate in the new Temporal Agent Recruitment system "... HAHAHAHHAHA
Apparently you haven't played any other MMOs. You do the exact same thing. In most of them they add 10 levels, but essentially you are starting over at level 1 without saying as much - all your high-end gear becomes starter gear, your abilities become basic levels compared to new ones added, etc. At least STO has the guts to call a spade a spade.
If this new temporal/delta recruit thing can't be applied to old characters this will be moment that business model snaps.

I did not take part in the Delta Recruit event at all, i was already running 7 toons and had no desire to run 1 more.
The Delta recruit event was accompanied by a noticable list of bugs that hampered delta recruits, as well as the ever present ddos attacks.
As for your question about my clarifying what i mean by "new" content, thats Cryptic's responsibility in my view, not mine.
Oh, this is going to be interesting to see how the story develops (and love the TOS aesthetics and the future ships.) Probably going to go get that pack.

Like what I saw in the trailer, and the new ships (enough that I bought the Starter Pack). Looking forward to seeing what they've got planned and getting my TOS on.
For the people asking about needing another Character slot to play this. Keep in mind we will probably have another give away coming up prior to launch of the expansion. It would be a no brainer.
I've played a lot of mmos and nothing is as expensive as the stuff sto peddles. They know they have the die hard st fan base and they know how to milk it. Kudos to that, but it's sad really.

hello milkcow,
in other mmos i saw some stuff called "Quest" , "player vs player mods" "leaderboard", "desire for items given by some mission" .. enjoy your grind on another 30 level grind + another 200 level grind on new toon + 130$ for admirality card called t2 ship
Hello Troll;
Those other games make everything you have spent huddreds of hours of your time doing completely moot, so you can stay on those PvP leaderboards. Hundreds of hours doing the same content over and over again. And they often charge you for the honor of TRIBBLE you over every 9 months, in addition to any monthly fees you might need to pay in order to get access to the new content. You are living in a fantasy world if you think what they do is any different than here.
On that subject, if those things are so great and this sucks so bad, why are you even here and not there working on your leaderboard stats?
Oh, this is going to be interesting to see how the story develops (and love the TOS aesthetics and the future ships.) Probably going to go get that pack.
I'll probably buy the pack too. But, I'd already have bought it if it included some some KDF or romulan ships. PLaying KDF and/or romulan in a TOS sounds more exciting than a fed run. Not that a TOS fed run sounds bad, I'd just like some love for the red and green teams.
No, you shouldn't be pleased about this. Not one bit.
I mean, this would be an awesome seasonal update to launch in September, which would've made more sense around the time of the 50th anniversary. But a rushed "expansion" in the summer? And what makes this an expansion anyway? A fed oriented micro-faction in the TOS era? With no new gameplay mechanics or systems, excluding specializations or reps? Color me disappointed.
Now I'm wondering what you actually have planned in September since you're holding a celebration of the Original Series this early.
I'm gonna go with nooo...
Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's, and yours.

By all means feel free to explain how some perks from leveling yet one more character to 50+, and mbe 2-3 more FE's for existing characters which by the way are pretty standard without an expansion, adds up to an expansion.
Oh and i have already worked hundreds of hours into those characters.

Losing faith in humanity, one person at a time.
If they go by the Delta Recruitment precedent they set, they'll give us free captain slots to play a temporal captain.
Which is important that Cryptic gives an official answer.
