Ghetto Style Play

What can be done to discourage Ghetto Style play in the Ker’rat Open PvP Zone?

Ghetto Style play is practiced primarily by Romulan Federation faction players using Enhanced Battle Cloak.

These “Ghetto Style” players don’t perform the mission and purposely stay out of the space battle. They stay just on the fringes of the battlefield “cloaked”, fully buffed and rested waiting for a badly damaged KDF ship to happen by or they will spring to life when 3 or 4 Federation players are in the process of finishing off a KDF opponent. True to form these ghetto players then gloat on chat about their PvP prowess and denigrate the defeated opponent.

This is an issue because the KDF faction is outnumbered 90% of the time on this map and it is primarily a defensive battle for them most of the time. To finish a space battle, depleted, against great odds only to have a Romulan coward come at you from behind fully buffed and rested is figuratively going Ghetto.

The player who practices “Ghetto Style” does so because their ship builds are poor and they are generally not the most skilled as players so they avoid traditional PvP instead employing the stab-in-the-back approach.

I guess that's the price you have to pay for being Klingon.
Or for not being a back-stabbing Romulan petaQ ;)

Funny, I thought this thread would be discussing budget builds and whatnot.

Yeah me too. If I had known going in it was a PvP thing I wouldn't have bothered.

How does the issue you are describing have anything to do with the word "ghetto"?

I'm also pretty sure that this is a common tactic for KDF to.
    As well as ganging up.

Ive seen KDF players hold off 3 or more Feds in Ker'rat..Granted..I know the names of players who can do that..Its also why I think most KDF PVPer are better than many FEDs (myself included). My only KDF toon is still all mk 12 gear and cant really keep up with the serious pvp builds in kerrat.

But my pet peves are the Battle cloak -> Aux to sif doff Rom Pilot cheezers.. 5 (2 if your not facing them) Seconds is all you get before they are cloaked or your placated..

More like militia tactics but very romulan-like. The term ghetto might be ill placed by the OP. I see his point but does not correlate to a ghetto environment more like guerrilla warfare.

Exactly. They both start with the letter "G" but mean completely different things. I think the OP is very confused.

Yeah me too. If I had known going in it was a PvP thing I wouldn't have bothered.

What kind of imbecile would comment on a post that has nothing to do with them? No ones cares what you thought this post was. Either you have something constructive to contribute or not.

They are telling you that your thread title was not descriptive of the contents, and that you should write the next one more carefully if you care about wasting other people's time.

I also thought this would be a no-budget build thread.

The title is appropriate for the subject matter contained within. What you mean is the title was not descriptive enough for their level of comprehension. I can’t help them there. And if we applied your logic half the titles of posts in this forum could be said to not be descriptive.

And I want you to help the forum community. Whatever made you think this post had anything to do with builds? Please explain.

You do not get to tell people what they can comment on or not, nor do you get to tell them what their comments have to consist of.

I certainly will speak up and tell you what to do if you troll my posts. Either you have something constructive to contribute or not.

While I can't speak for the person you are asking, you actually *mentioned* builds in the OP:

The player who practices “Ghetto Style” does so because their ship builds are poor

One could take on damage and as soon as you decloak to kill them they activate the Kobali Regen console and Whoops....

How about posting this in the right forum section under PVP? That would be a helpful start.

And to answer your question....nothing can be done. This game is not designed for PVP it's designed for PVE. PVP is just a feature that happens to be here.

Because the Ker’rat Open PvP Zone is also a “Mission” (Claiming Enemy Emergency Reserves ...for KDF) for all factions and includes active PvE (Borg) content... this general forum thread is the best place to post.

So many other non-prejudiced adjectives to use.

Perhaps a premade team with established rules can limit opportunistic players and opportunistic behavior.

Your question is, "What can be done to discourage Ghetto Style play in the Ker’rat Open PvP Zone?".

Your question is purely based around PVP and has nothing to do with PVE. Throwing in that there are PVE borg content or there is a mission available doesn't change that fact at all. You want something done to help prevent 'Ghetto Style play' being done by other players. Are the borg also doing 'Ghetto Style play'?

Again, because the game is PVE focused, (they don't even advertise that there is any PVP in STO) all attention goes towards that. You can't expect Cryptic to change around powers to help fix a very minor element to STO. Sucks I know, I used to love PVP here years ago, but too late to do anything about it now.

If I were you, I'd just be thankful that Ker’rat is still around, it was very close to being nuked and being lost forever.

It's ker'rat. It's always been like this...It's a free for all. Additionally, as someone who plays both sides in ker'rat, both the feds and kdf are guilty of rather questionable tactics.

That's a good idea, the devs could "remove it for revamping" ;) and the problem is solved!

(Just kidding, I realize there are a few players still clinging to PVP and I bear them no ill-will.)
