We NEED to be able to bypass cutscenes!!

accordvtec77accordvtec77 Member Posts: 140 Arc User
Just as the title says. I've noticed that since the update, I can't bypass most cutscenes anymore like I used to. This is especially bothersome with the latest featured episode. Towards the end when I take out the Nah'kul time portal, it goes to a cutscene which I can't bypass. In the meantime, my ship is STILL being fired on and I can't do anything about it. So when the cutscene ends, I find my ship has been destroyed.

First, your ship destroyed is because of the time portal's explosion, as it is massive.

Second, cutscenes that can't be skipped are programmed that way as they transition you to the next phase of the mission.

Not according to the damage toggle it isn't. Plus I had the same thing happen during the mission "Surface Tension" while I'm in space combat with the Undine. A cutscene appears of ships warping in (while I'm in combat). When the cutscene ends, my ship is now severely damaged, if not destroyed. No large exploding objects around this time...

I can confirm as the same thing happened to me the first time through. When the cutscene kicks in, I would hear the warnings, ie. "hull at 75%", "hull at 50%", "hull at 25%" until my ship exploded. It was clear that my ship was being picked apart by the enemy ships and did not explode due to the time portal (scratch the paint was active too so I would have been immune if that caused any damage). When the cutscene was over I had to respawn.

Really the game should protect the player's ship or remove the enemies from the playfield during the cutscene *and* allow you to skip the same if you desire.

That's what I'm asking for. I just replayed Temporal Front with my newest character. This time I went all the way around to the backside of the time portal, away from ALL other enemy vessels. I took out the portal, and this time I did NOT blow up, because there weren't any enemy vessels firing at me. In fact, I took NO damage from the portal explosion.

I have to agree here with a lot of what's been said.
During cutscenes, enemy ships will still be attacking you and you are powerless to do anything unless you can 'escape' the cutscene.

However, the cutscenes tend to develop the story so I'd like to see cutscenes played out properly for the first run of a mission on the account, but skippable on all further runs. I'm not sure that's so easy to implement though...

Oh I agree. At the end of it all, I wouldn't mind sitting through the cutscene if the battle was "paused" in the meantime. I'm guessing that pausing the action during a scene might be easier for the developers, as opposed to being able to skip it on future runs.

Knowing this was going to happen, the best place to destroy the portal is behind it. Well away from the other action. When the portal is destroyed and the cutscene is over, then you can head in and finish the mission without a scratch on your ship :)

I can see where making me watch the cutscene on the first play of the mission makes sense. But if Cyptic is going to make me do the mission four or five times over the next month to acquire all the goodies, then I'd like an option to skip it. After the third time of hearing Noye shriek, "This oppression will not stand!" on my second alt, I have a desire to uninstall this game and never look back.

Back in the days there was a skip button for the cutscence. Than with New Romulus season they removed it.

Yeah, I would sure love to be able to skip those annoying, lengthy cutscenes during missions, or at very least have the chat window available.

That's how I'll be doing it from now on  Circle around to the backside and blow it to bits

If they can't make the player invulnerable or freeze the enemies during the cut-scene (like other games I've played in) then don't do cut-scenes while we are still in red alert! Find some other way to make the transition or allow us to skip the scene. This applies to both ground and space by the way.

It is especially bad in the current episode because of some of the high-damage attacks the enemy has. They are normally not hard to avoid (well marked cones) or mitigate (targetable torpedoes) but not when you are trapped in a cut-scene. During my first run my ship was actually in the scene and I watched first the shields collapse and then the hull burst into green flame before the big fireball. All I could do was just shrug and respawn when I finally got back. Kind of takes away from the dramatic moment they were trying to achieve.

In a similar vein, quit having auto-pop-up hails while still in red alert.

Actually the enemies had to become neutral while in cutscene... atleast they did before. Last time I played STO which was a week ago because of my bugged gamelauncher it seems they just freeze for a mere moment and than they release hell. That's why before a CS I use RSP to absorb all incoming energy attacks.

I've been getting killed during cutscenes from time to time, specially during the more recent episodes. Its a pain and a half seeing that you are defeating your enemy only to turn up dead after the FMV with your enemy at 100%. On second though, it does makes things interesting since I was getting bored with the game so Cryptic, more bugs please,

i would love it if there was a skip option for all cutscenes.
  • aranhiamaranhiam Member Posts: 46 Arc User
Same, I want the skill option back! Why did they have to remove it in the first place I dunno?!?

An option to skip cutscenes would be great even apart from the ship destruction issue. When I play a mission multiple times on multiple toons to get space sets, it gets really old to see the same lengthy cutscenes every time. I do like the cutscenes, and I appreciate the effort that goes into them, but familiarity breeds contempt :).

I died in at least 6 runs in a row during that cut Scene- and that includes even engineers using Engineering Team, brace for Impact, evasive meneuvers.
Plus, doing that Mission with 17 toons times 3 to get the ground set for my BOffs takes 3 times as Long because of not being able to skip cut Scenes.

btw: to get the Jem Haddar ground or space set and the Breen set you didn't have to Play the same Mission over and over again...which was MUCH better - but that is beyond this topic

I have played the featured episode 27 times so far - and died in most of them during the final cut Scene. Run 27 I attacked the Portal Jumpers before destroying the gate and survived.
Before even engineer cruisers with high resistance using eng Team, brace for Impact, evasive maneuvers and so on had died. Now a tac Pilot escort survived. It's DEFINITELY the other ships not following the cut Scene.
