Which ship

Hey guys,
I'm a fed tac officer lvl 60.
I'm wondering if I should go for the Fed dreadnought(yamato) or the tac star cruiser. I want kinda tank ship that will soak up a lot of damage, and will also deal a lot of damage.
I'll give any other info that might be usefull.
Thanks guys.

Is the "tac star cruiser" a tactical flagship? The star cruiser is the level 40 ship you can get in-game for free right? If you're asking about a Galaxy X versus a Tactical Odyssey (either tier 5 or 6) my preference is the Odyssey. But they're both very capable of doing what you say you want to do.

Tactical Star Cruiser (T6 of the Oddy) is already fleet quality out of the box (since it can be part of a 3 pack).
Yamato Dreadnought (T6 of the Galaxy X) you have to buy C store version for console and trait, then buy Fleet version for better stats.

T6 Oddy is cheaper and quicker for fleet quality stats. Beyind that....it's captain's preference.

Me personally...I got more enjoyment from T6 Star Cruisers. There are existing threads about both. Check 'em out.

Ok, but just wondering. What size is the T6 Tac oddy compared to the Jupiter or the dreadnought? Is it a big ship like the oddy or Jupiter, or is it small like the t6 arbiter battlecruiser

T6 Odyssey is rather large in terms of size. It's definitely bigger than the Arbiter.

The Breen Rezreth Dreadnaught has become my go-to for "tanky broadsider".

Passable BO/console layout, and it's FREE. For bonus freebie goodness, I use the Kobali warp core and console when I want to cut down on the number of BO skills I use for healing.

Pretty much a matter of taste, they both do similar stuff. Personally I prefer the Endeavour's boff & console layout though the Yamato has a buttload of gimmicks that might tickle your fancy. Phaser lance, hangar, cloak, saucer sep which also turns the lance into a shotgun, etc.
Go for whatever looks better to you.
T6 science oddy for the tanking win!!!!!
Yeah, that too. And you can dual wield lt.cmdr sci and wreak havoc with that. >:)
Also it's the best looking ody variant. <3

How do you get the cloak for the yamato? It doesn't come with it anymore

I could be misremembering, but if I recall correctly, it comes with one of the Defiants? Just the Galaxy X/Dreadnought/Yamato can equip it?

Junior you keep getting my handle wrong! How could you...? :'(

    @comrademoco

As for which ship, it's mostly up to captains preference. I prefer the Odysseys, and it's not even close.

And as for best tanking ship, well give me a T6 Recluse and there's your answer.

I remembered it wrong: Cloaking Device comes with a purchase of either the Dreadnought Cruiser itself OR the Tactical Escort Retrofit. Both C-Store purchases

If you want a large, heavy cruiser that can take a beating as well as dish some damage, your 2 best options are the Tactical Star Cruiser, or the Presidio Command Battlecruiser. Overall, the Odyssey is a slightly better ship, but the Presidio comes with one of the best Starship Traits you can get. The Odyssey can deal a little more damage, but the Presidio is far more agile. The best part is that both ships are Fleet Quality right from the fleet store. No silly fleet modules, you don't have to level the ship twice.. none of that garbage. They Yamato is a nice ship, but it comes with lackluster trait and console, requires consoles from other ships to cloak or separate the saucer, and has a built in Weapon (Phaser Lance) that requires you to build using Phasers to properly take advantage of. The Yamato is really best suited for long time players who already had the T4 and T5 Galaxy Variants and wanted to move up to T6. As a stand alone ship for a new player, there are better options.

If you're looking for pure firepower, the T6 Arbiter has no equal on the Fed side. Still a pretty tough ship, capable of dealing huge damage. Unfortunately, the ship is not fleet quality, so even after spending 3k Zen, it still requires yet another 500 Zen to get it to the 'best' stats.

    What he said ^_^

But to add to that by experience if you are going for the T6 Oddy go for the sci one. The Yamato is a tricky beast but I do not know about how other do it but It's my Sci ship's pew-pew and tanking ship. Yes you wont get have any GW on you're build but depending on you're skills you don't have to do anything at all and watch almost anything that tries to kill you burn down as fast as they try to hit you. Not bad for a tact too most specially if you have the gimmick cloak and saucer sep but what you really need for it is just it's main console that comes with it and a leech. you can throw in the cloak but you really don't need it. The T6 console you get and the leech are enough and you can just mix and match the other consoles.

But my only recommendation is you get the fleet version. And the Yamato is more of a burst type ship since BO is the best skill (or me anyway) when using this ship. Yeah I know technically I can go for FAW but it's a secondary thing for me. BO is the bomb for this ship and well a few agony phaser would do wonders and the quantum set as well.

In the end it's up to you which ship you would want as a tact. In the end ships are only part of your arsenal but it's the quality of your gear that's really important including their mods. DPS wise. Oh and yes the traits and boff as well. We really should not forget about that.

If for some reason you plan on buying only 1 FED ship ever, there's really only one choice. The Arbiter Intel Battlecruiser. It's a 5/3 ship that can do virtually anything. It can be speced to DPS, Tank, or run GW and it comes with a very good trait. Really, it's the very best FED ship period.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

The Arbiter is hard to beat. It's very flexible, very powerful and it comes with an excellent console and trait.

It's only downside is that it's not fleet quality from the C-Store, but that's not a knock on the actual ship. There is really no role the Arbiter can't fill, it's a great ship.

If you like a tanky Stafleet ship OP I’d follow @snoggymack22 and @seaofsorrows advice for the tac flag or command ships. The command ship gives you access to “All Hands on Deck” I use on every build I have. Both vessels have 3 sci console slots which could be filled +threat consoles from embassy ensuring you aggro as a dedicated PvE tank.

The Arbiter (which can equip the defiant’s cloak console) is also a potent side option. A bit less tanky I suppose but with a devastating 5/3 gun port load out I begin to love for siege stuff like in Hive Space. It’s trait also belongs to the high DPS standard in this game by now no matter if you fly the actual ship or not.

If you go with any of these three ships I doubt you will regret it and that from multiple perspectives viewed. :)

Ok please forgive me if this is a dumb question but i was wondering if I buy the Tactical Star Cruiser aka Endeavor class starship, would I be able to customize it with the Operations or Science Star Cruiser parts too? Just curious before I make the buy.
