Yep, borg engines are a goner. Looking for some cool looking impulse engines.

New visual slots are coming soon, meaning you get extra slots that will utilise the visuals of the gear you place there, which can be different from the main gear you're using.

Looks like you must own this piece of gear before you can use its visual effects. Out of curiosity: will you be using this feature?

Will use it but a dissapointment for Season 11.5? Is this what we have to look for now...sad...sad...sad

Yes, yes and more yes. I've wanted this for years.

Jem'Hadar shields + Herald antiprotons? Woohoo! KDF Aegis + regular AP or Withering disruptors? Yay!

My space barbie life would be complete if they'd also add a "unify beam visuals" option.

Dont forget to throw in the old Reman shield

    Reason for "other" vote?

Ship weapon visuals under "my" control? Heck yeah. Slapping weird colors or patterns all over my ship after I've taken time to choose the paintjobs in the tailor? Nah, not my cuppa tea...

Of course, all we get are the second option, not the first...

Think of this as the foundation for the possible implementation of weapon visual control at a later date. Now that the system is developed, the only thing left to do is work out all the weapon details, which shouldn't take very long compared to this.

Is it Good News day on the STO forums ?

Haven't seen this many good news stories on the forums, ever.

I will use this feature 100%.
This is great for customization. Can't wait to break out the Reman sheild visuals !!
Always wanted to use it, but always had other gear take priority over visuals. yay !

Not really...I pretty much keep to semi-canon ships and hull types...and weapons...so no I can't say I'll be using this.

Will be using this on some of my ships. I expect to see a lot more Reman and AEGIS shield effects on users with Iconian procs. My TSABC will be running Reman shields, but be free to select other shields again.

It was partially hooked up on Tribble before the last patch, so I've already played with this some.
...because the reputation sets frequently override the visuals selected in the shipyard, including faction/career colors. I may just keep a set of common components available, so the shipyard selections will have the maximum expression (assuming this is how it all works at the end of the day). :o

That's an interesting idea for some of my canon ships, I often times swap a set engine for Borg engines for sector space travel, and then would have to select 'disable visuals' on the engines again when swapping back. The main issue is that double-clicking behavior might send to the visual slots instead of gear, during the time it was sorta working on Tribble, it worked that way.
Yes, especially if the slots also function as storage.

They seem to, though from what I gather (the actual UI wasn't hooked up, so I don't know positively), you can't turn off the visual effects of anything in those slots.

If memory serves... according to the blog post, you will not be able to turn off these extra visual slots.
  • risian4risian4 Member Posts: 3,711 Arc User

Why would you need such an option though? You could simply remove the items from those slots if you no longer wish to use its visuals.
  • tousseautousseau Member Posts: 1,484 Arc User

Well, as others have wondered, is if these extra visual slots can be used as extra storage...
So, I would guess that would be one reason for people wanting to disable these new visual slots

I have a couple of ships I plan on using them on. I can make good use out of this feature.

Always liked the Reman Shields skin on my Hegh'ta, but it's been a long while since I used it. Heck, I may have to farm it again, as I don't think it is even in my 'low tier storage units' any more.

I vaguely remember from my early days (post F2P) that the game "used to" include an option to customize weapons fire colors, however, it was deactivated / removed "because the ability to visually identify what your teammates / opposition is using for weapons is a critical component of PvP, the ability to "mask" your weapon type under a different color was 'bad' and therefore had to be removed"...

If this was truly the case, you'd think that the code is still lying around the engine somewhere all commented out - and just needs at most a facelift in the UI to fit...

    Oh intern...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Voting maybe but probably not. I usually disable all visuals on my Odyssey as I like the natural look of it with the Veteran skin and blue highlight piping around it.

Though I do like the Nukara set yellow theme even though I don't use it.

I will be using this for sure. Certain visuals on certain ships look stunning. Now I can finally use them without gimping myself.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I find the change really cool! My liberated borg will finally look stylish again with the assimilated set visuals on while DPSing ISA with the ugly ico set equipped.

Honestly I LOVE this idea!! It will give me a reason to grind my ALTs through the rep system to get the cool shields and engines that aren't the best but have great visuals. There is one engine that has an orangey look to the nacelles that I think looks awesome. Thing is, now I have to figure out which gear gives which visuals. Maybe someone could start a screenshot thread with the different sets and the visuals they have,,, or is one of those already around? Does STOWIKI have that sorta info on it?
    @captainchaos66
Some sets have screenshots, but I don't think it's guaranteed.

When a new ship is released, someone in the community usually provides a video of the ship, including showing off the ship with all set visuals*. You should check out one of those videos.

*) except, usually, the Borg Assimilated Console visual. But it looks like Cryptic also "forgot" that one for this feature, too. That said- if you want that visual, you are pretty much never wrong with just equipping the console for real. :)

I can see it for some time until the novelty wears off, but I'm with you in general. I always hated it when in other games my armour suddenly was shining purple or had some weird lights flicker around my weapons.
