Mission Updates:
Using techniques I learned while building part 2, I've updated both A Routine Mission (now v1.38) and The Unsung Mission:Artifacts (now v1.25) with some extra content.
Part 2 Development Update:
Escalation is now far enough along for me to announce its features: - Branching Dialogue, - Combat, - Bonus Objectives, - Exploration.
I'm also excited to announce that Escalation will release this month, March 2014, for reviewing.
Additional information can be found in the initial post, which has been updated.
Updates:
Both A Routine Mission and Unsung Mission: Artifacts have been updated, the former having some additions to the scenery for map two. These updates are mostly centered on some polishing. They are now at versions 1.41 and 1.26 respectively.
Maelstrom Update:
Due to me getting busy for the foreseeable future, and due to the project's unforeseen complexity, Maelstrom will not be releasing until April at the earliest.
Tonight, after finding some free time, I decided to go and polish A Routine Mission some more.
What I have actually done is add a small bonus quest that can be played after the main quest has been completed. This quest, which is under the name "Bonus Objective" in mission, offers a brief glimpse into the story of T.U.M: Artifacts.
A Routine Mission is now at version 1.50 as a result.
The Unsung Mission: Maelstrom will be releasing in April, 2014. Here is what you can expect from this mission: - Story, - Branching Dialogue, - Large Scale Space and Ground Battles, - Bonus Objectives.
Unlike the previous two missions in the trilogy, Maelstrom will not involve journeying from one system to another through Cryptic space. Everything will happen in one, explosive go.
The Unsung Mission: Maelstrom is now available for review. *pops confetti cannon*
Also, I will allow any other foundry author to use characters (if you need a character), places (if you need a place), or reference events from this trilogy in thier own missions, if they so desire.
I have enjoyed making these missions immensely, and I hope that others will enjoy playing them.
With great thanks to the reviewer that brought this up, I will be reworking the Bonus Objectives in T.U.M: Artifacts. Now that Escalation and Maelstrom are done, the overhauled Bonus Objectives should be more in-line with the description I have in the OP.
This post will be updated when the overhauling is done in version 1.30. Stay tuned.
T.U.M: Artifacts version 1.30 is now available, with redone Bonus Objectives!
For those of you who have already played this mission, please give this new version a whirl, and try out the redone Bonus Objectives!
If there is something else that needs to be looked at, don't hesitate to point it out.
- Added Exploration feature. This is based on the one in place for Escalation, where there are hidden things to discover.
- Removed "no combat" from the features list as I realized that it was a massive spoiler, and thus reduced the tension that would otherwise be there.
Great thanks to all who have taken the time reviewed this mission so far. Your reviews have been invaluable to me as it helped me to bring out the potential that lay in this project. I hope you all can find the time to try out this mission in its current form to see how it has improved and to check out the exploration feature. I also encourage others to review this mission and to offer thier suggestions on how to improve it further.
And while you're at it, check my trilogy as well!
Edit: Updated OP fully, which includes a link to helixfungus' A Routine Mission review.
Summary: This is a great exploration mission with excellent story dialogue. I gave it 5 stars because I like story oriented missions. Just as the title says this mission has no combat at all. The use of optional, triggered, combat could be added to your mission but based on the story within the mission I do not think it would work. I would still recommend it to other players who enjoy a good story oriented exploration mission, although not on Elite level. I am just kidding about the elite level.
I mentioned the use of optional mission elements lacking any real detailed information. This is a problem if you want players to spend more time exploring your story oriented mission. If too many of the optional elements contain no details regarding the mission then the player will eventually begin ignoring them. At that point there is no reason to have them. Optional elements allow the author to provide more of the story to the player while not requiring completion to get through a map. It gives you the chance to flesh out more of the story which makes exploratory missions more interesting to play.
Below are a couple of things I noted while playing the mission that I wanted to let you know about. Everything in this write up should be seen as suggestions on ways I felt you could improve certain elements of the mission. They are yours to do with as you see fit.
Mission Description: This is a good description. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this description.
Grant Mission Dialogue: This is a good grant dialogue. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue.
Mission Task: Consider adding the start location to the initial task. This would make it easier for players to find the start.
Mission Entry Prompt: This is a good use of the prompt. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this prompt.
MAPS: The Nebula: This is a good map design with well written story dialogue and nice optional mission elements. I noted a couple of items to consider changing:
-Some of your optional investigation points on this map lack of any detailed information which can be annoying. After a few of these types of encounters the player will ignore optional investigation points. Consider adding more story elements to all optional mission investigation points. I will note this on the remaining maps and cover in more detail in the summary.
-The Exploration: Destroyed Ship dialogue; consider changing "but I cannot iden" to read "but I cannot identify how it was destroyed".
-The Exploration: Anomalous Reading dialogue; consider changing the response button "That is why we are here. Halm, set a course" to read "That is why we are here. Helm, set a course".
-The Exploration: Lighting Bolt dialogue; consider changing "Was that lighting bold that just shot past us" to read "Was that lighting bolt that just shot past us".
-Exploration: Anomalous Reading; dialogue; consider changing "in the immediate vacinity" to read "in the immediate vicinity".
Abandoned Borg Asteroid Facility: This is a good map design with excellent story dialogue. Some of the optional mission dialogue needs work. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue. I noted a couple of items to consider changing:
-Some of your optional investigation points on this map lack of any detailed information.
-The optional mission element "Mess with some circuits" reveals an NPC standing in the debris saying "That's not funny Q" but no other dialogue discussing it. My assumption is this is supposed to be a hologram of some kind. Consider adding dialogue that discusses the presence of the NPC and provides some explanation for its presence.
The Nebula: This is a good map design with excellent story dialogue. I noted no spelling or grammatical errors with this dialogue or any issues with the map.
End Report
Thanks again for authoring and for giving me the chance to review your work. You did a good job with this mission and I look forward to playing/reviewing more of your work in the future.

i just did the mission with the abandoned borg thing and i wondered where the artifact mission is located. I started playing this game last week and i have no idea how to get to the seqeul.
Btw you misspelled the word ''piece'' it said ''peice'' in several dialogues.
great mission and finally something without the endless pounding my keyboard as a form of shooting another vessel thats shoots back at me.
I have an idea on why you can't find the sequel. I had renamed it from "Unsung Mission: Escalation" to "Unsung Mission: Acceleration" after Delta Rising landed so as to not be confused with the Cryptic mission Escalation.
Of course, I had forgotten to update the little bit of dialogue advertising the next part in Artifacts (and only now do I realize this ) but that's getting fixed now. Along with some of the misspelled pieces.
P.S. - Holy wow I haven't seen this thread in ages!
