Micro photon torpedo

Couple of questions about this item that hopefully someone can answer:

1) How do they differ from regular photon torpedo's?
2) Is there a difference between the peregrine fighter version and the Type-10 shuttle version?
3) There was a theory a while back that regular peregrines had better dps than elite because their torpedo's had better recharge. Is that still a valid theory?

    It seems nobody knows. As far as I could tell the micro torpedos seemed to be the same as regular photons (when compared to the relative effects of hangar pet quantums). Can anyone confirm that it is just a differently named photon torpedo?
