A very simple addition that I would buy a couple of from the Zen store

The ability to change sprecies on a character.

I have several level 60 characters with items that new toons can no longer get; but they are not the species I want any longer. Sometimes the chracter species was chosen in ignorance of play-effects (say: the first few toons), sometimes I just messed up (I've a trill I should have made a joined trill), sometimes I just want to try something different without losing my hard won special items.

Sell me the option to do a species respec and it's a thing I'd buy.

Just sayin...

Species makes so little difference... Career change would be a more welcome addition.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

A joined Trill has a total of +42 in space skills. That seems pretty signifigant.
A Ferengi has -20% on gpl and EC vendors. You can actually make a living on that margin.
Do I really need to discuss a Catain on the ground?

But I'm all for choice... let's agree they should sell both. A career change token (who doesn't want to change careers from time to time), and a species genetic mangler token. :)

Has been brought up well over a dozen times...search instead of making a pointless copy topic...plus don't you think if it was *easy* as you put it they would have done it by now?

From what I have read/heard over the years from the Devs about this topic, I don't think it's quite as simple to implement as you may believe. I think this has essentially been deemed "more effort than it's worth".

Yup, I seem to remember more than one dev saying that.

Issue is (at least in my non-dev, non-programmer head) that species isn't just a cosmetic thing - it affects things like traits, and some special stuff too (as noted by jerryspock). There is also some dialogue that's different for certain species (I seem to remember one of the DR patrols with the Octanti that refer to you as a Borg if you're a Lib. Borg). So, any re-species token would have to fix all that too - not as easy as a simple cosmetic change.

I don't think its a bad idea at all. Lets not jump down the OPs throat. And I doubt any here have a real world estimate, to gauge the effort/time required.
That said I myself have no idea how much Dev time this would require either.

But I know I'd buy a 5 pack of them for sure.
Lets also not forget an Alien has access to an extra personal trait slot. They are allowed 10 slots while everyone else get the status quo 9.
That extra trait slot can make a world of difference if filled with the proper trait, for example Inspirational Leader.

Aliens have the extra trait slot because every other species has some kind innate species trait while aliens are free to have whatever traits they want.

I agree @vegeta50024 but in many cases I would opt for the flexibility that aliens provide trait wise. Over say some of the more useless ground traits certain species get stuck with.

Not saying that Alien is the only way to go, as other species have their advantages as well, but I'm sure most have made a character they wish they could alter.

When a player is new its hard to know what's what. And which species excell at certain tasks.
A poor species choice can cost you upwords of 20-30% performance in battle *depending on the intention of the build.

Not holding my breath for this one but it would be nice I think.
There's a reason this topic is a FCT. Lots of demand.

due to the fact that species is chosen during character creation as is sex and faction you would need to rerun this section and that would effectively wipe all of your stuff.

you might as well just delete your character and start over, the end result would be the same.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
