A new engine isn't even a remote possibility

In the short term, you're correct. In the long term, it's nothing short of an inevitability. The game will become increasingly outdated and unable to compete, with the limitations causing more and more headaches and problems, until the only choice is adapt and update or die...

You just basically described the fate of what happens to all video games in existence.

STO will eventually fade away and die, sorry.

Nonsense. Star Trek is a 50 year old property about to get another new movie and television series, and the concept of the MMO isn't going anywhere. "Star Trek Online" will persist in some form or fashion rather because it must, just like "Star Wars Online" persists. In the latter case it changed names and companies producing it and the transition from old to new was much more abrupt and lossy, but the same players are still playing Jedi and Sith and Rebels and Imperials etc. Ten years from now we're still likely to be playing Starfleet and Klingons and Romulans and Vulcans probably killing Borg at least from time to time. The demand is there, someone's going to fill it. "Massive multi-generational pop-culture IP + online game" is a no-brainer.

So if Cryptic wants to be the one being that provider and making that money, they'll do what they need to do in order to keep with the times. If they don't, someone else will.

Okay, but basically your talking about another game, and not STO. I don't know, call it 'STO 2' or 'Star Trek TNG-O', it doesn't really matter, and there will be more Star Trek games down the pipe line in the future.

Over the years, games for Star Trek have been released from various publishers and developers and from different angles and that will continue to do so. This angle is MMORG and its developer is Cryptic. The next game to come out will no doubt have a different angle and from a different developer.

STO itself will fade away and die. Star Trek games in general, probably not...who know, but that's not what we are talking about here.

So you are saying that Cryptic has made a really good game and should just toss it out the window? STO does not deserve to fade away and especially with all the effort to create a story and bring in actors to take up their roles. Plus, if you look at other game that were released around Star Trek Online, they have made significant advancements with graphics, adding new features, and other content... They did a good job.

STO's development of the game is god awfully slow and these people are just going around and playing with their food!

Since we had the Iconian chapter, Future proof, and now Revamped episodes for Cardassian/Terrans... Cryptic might as well give us the option to play as the Terran Empire. Meaning we create Terran characters with a Terran Campaign (Story). It would be one of the excellent choices in order for Cryptic to Expand the game since the release of the Romulan Republic.

Obiviously there are many questions and answers on how the Terrans dealt the borg, the iconians, and the delta quadrant versus the things that has happened with the current factions storyline.

As to one of the responsives of what Cryptic has said a couple of years ago, they said they possibly would add more playable factions... which one of them is the Romulans. The next were the Terran Empire and the Dominion.

Ironically speaking, Cryptic has released a lot of Terran Empire content such as lockbox items and reputation gear (mirror ships were always in the game). On top of that, they have Leeta.

They should start focusing on more factions, new graphics engine (Since it's 2016 and all and technology is way ahead with the games graphics). There is so much things that can be added in this game, but so far what we are seeing is one episode per month, new priced tier 6 ships, released content is small, and very few bugs that have ever to be ironed out. In short terms, Cryptics acts like they have done so, so much but with little content and less bug fixes.

wont happen its the same for the borg and dominion. all of them have one thing in common, they are evil factions. you are meant to play as a hero not some nameless soldier/drone in a war you have no control over or yourself and besides that cryptic would have to visit torture, slavery, death camps, forced labour camps, death by firing squad and all that other nasty stuff that would make hitler blush with envy.

no, i can not see it. cryptic has touched on the torture and mind control issue once or twice on the game, but would you be happy to be a drone who is forced to do things to survive?
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

just what we need another fraction with too few ships, little to no uniqueness, and more people to howl about being referred to as a Klingon/Fedrat
