Cryptic -
I know this must be as frustrating for you as it is for us. We love you guys. We love the game. But, at this point , you are letting us down. We have had ongoing DDoS attacks for WEEKS now. Whats worse, there is a guy online openly claiming responsibility for them. If your DEV team cannot stop him, then please alert the authorities and take some kind of action. Maybe you have already. But if so, you have not communicated with us. Each night we get the generic "we are looking into it" response while this guy goes all over Twitter bragging about his exploits. SAY SOMETHING. DO SOMETHING. At a bare minimum , tell US whats happening. Please.
thanks.

Just to be clear, we have been doing things and are continuing to be doing more. I cannot elaborate due to security measures and such. However, just to be clear there have been DDOSes that we have prevented. We don't advertise when an attack fails. Nor do we declare in full and public detail what we're doing as countermeasures because
-that is an extremely dumb thing to do-
Seriously. Even saying "ok we implemented something but we're not going to declare what" means that we made a change which an attacker could see and adjust before committing another bot attack.
Therefore, I can only go so far as to reiterate my previous statement that we have been doing things and are doing more things.

Security-wise, it would be an extremely bad idea for them to talk about what they're doing, or when, or how. You're just going to have to trust that they are working on it.
sorry but flaming is not good. . . @pwlaughingtrendy. . its hammer time. .
If you want to ensure the Enemy follows their part of the plan exactly, make sure they attend the briefing.
Please speak only for yourself. Me, I do NOT love Cryptic, I think they are doing a bad job and mess around with Star Trek.
Not to be snide here but... There are other games out there.
Not exactly the way to win friends and influence people, chief. If you had even the faintest friggin' idea of how hard it is to deal with things like this, you'd be more polite and respectful, but because you don't and assume everything gets done with the wave of a hand (not yours, of course, because you couldn't be bothered anyway) you post obnoxious foolishness like that.
There will be many a dry eye around here if you leave, sir or ma'am. Don't let the bridge doors pinch your butt on the way out.
news flash... much bigger companies have been hit, and harder by these, they are near impossible to stop completely.
You know what would make this kind of response easier to swallow? If it were four and a half months ago.
This has been going on pretty much nightly for (at least) five months during some peoples' prime hours.
Every time this happens they seem powerless to stop it. This guy, according to his Twitter, seems to single-handedly trounce their servers from the point he decides to do it, until the point he tells everyone he's bored and calling it a night. From an outsider's perspective they've... done nothing. They say they've done stuff, prevented attacks... but, we certainly can't see that. What we can see is the servers going down regularly. There has been little-to-no visible change in either their response, nor his actions. In five months.
What do we have to go on? Trendy's word, and absolutely no results we can see.
Keep in mind, though STO has gone "Free to Play" it still offers a subscription. People are paying for access that is being denied to them.
After a certain point Cryptic should probably start actually showing some kind of results. And again; five months. Nearing half a year now. Where are they? Where are our results? Should we expect them next month? Six more after that for the even year? In time for the seventh anniversary? Seriously, when?
If someone charged some Zen to their account, then spent it all in-game and did a charge back on their credit card and Cryptic had the funds yanked from them... would Cryptic be content to let that slide for five months as the person was telling them, "Well... I promise you I'm sorting this out with my bank. I'm not gonna tell you how, or when it will get cleared up, but I promise you I am totally working on it and at some point maybe you'll see something from it!"...? Would they get to keep all the stuff they bought with that Zen? Somehow I don't think so...
Yes, but for all we know that "something" is crying and binge drinking.
Remind me what companies have been taken offline, basically nightly, for five straight months... because I can't think of one. Even companies and organizations targeted by large, organized hacker groups don't go down this often for this long. And Cryptic is, apparently, targeted by one guy who openly taunts them on Twitter.
That's because Cryptic _is_ largely powerless to stop it. Let me put it this way: XBox Live _and_ PSN have both been taken out at times by DDOS, and Microsoft and Sony _both_ have the resources and means to protect themselves. They _are_ their own backbone providers.
Cryptic is a _small_ company. They do _not_ have the resources and means to _force_ the backbone providers to help on a weekend, nor the influence to force the FBI to get involved, today.
We get it. You're frustrated. We all are. This problem is more complicated than you think, and you should probably do some research on what's actually involved in the attack (and in defending against it), before you make demands.
