Yeah better to just shut down the servers and call it quits cause losing customers/players that get tired o this is going to be so healthy for business that its better to bail and cash in while peeps can.

Or you think if this continues for another 6 months that players is gonna love sitting around and wait at prime gametime? There is always something new on the horizon and if you can't play then move on to the next game

Didn't this guy turn out to be from outside the US? Makes it a lot harder for Cryptic to get at him through legal means.

Im sure some swedish official is ready to assist :p

what exacly are you implying? that its allowed to ddos someone from sweden. its not. we have jails too. and id like to put this guy in the gulag for what he does.

IF it went on more than 20 hours, they would extend events. We are at just over 1 hour, it sucks to be sure but lets have some perspective.

Call it an unscheduled downtime and move on.

Considering they have a posted warning from the individual responsible as the souce of the problem actually POSTS a boast about it - you'd think it would be pretty simple for Perfect World Legal to get a writ/subpoena and put a rather abrupt end to all this nonsense.

If it was only twice a year I think most of us could deal with that. This is now a weekly or more occurance. Also you can bet the DDos attacks against this game are no where near as sophisticated as the ones on the pentagon ;)

I started playing this game just after Christmas 2015 as a F2P to see if I would like it. STO was a different game than I expected, but in a really good way. It has a lot to offer, especially as it caters to many different play styles.

After the New I decided I like the game after a few weeks of trying it to subscribe, figuring it opens up some game features for me and gives a bit of money to Perfect World to support the game. Spent the next few weeks really getting into the game, and was considering going paying for a lifetime sub. My wife likes to play games as well, and I have 4 kids who like computer games, so... do the math.

Well, February has seen a ton of server down time that has kept me from being able to play the game when I have the time to do so. Add in the "shuttle" bug, lag, and other bugs in general, and I've decided that as much as I really like this game, I will be cancelling my sub for STO and move on to other games.

Excuses about how they can't stop DDOS attacks and blah blah blah are nothing more than that, excuses. I'm paying for a service, and if they can't provide it, then they have lost not only my subscription, but any subs my wife and I were considering for her and the kids.

I've played a fair number of MMOs, and the situation with this game is absurd. If Perfect World and/or Cryptic are so small fry that they can't handle some reject hacker repeatedly attacking their servers, then they don't deserve my money and I'll take my business elsewhere.

Great game, but I pay for entertainment to enjoy when I'm not working and handling my other responsibilities in life. I expect service for the money I'm paying, and I'm not getting it for the past several weeks.

The decision to subscribe or not is 100% your own and nobody is going to argue with you, however I ask that you consider the following -
    • The issue is not the ability to stop the attacks, nor is it anything to do with a refusal to do so. It has been pointed out several times and in several discussions that a public forum is not the place to discuss what action is being taken.
    • In order to truly stop the attacks, the originating source needs to be traced and this takes time.
    • Cryptic, unlike some other companies, usually do recompense us by extending events or extra free giveaways.
    • Have you (or anyone else for that matter) considered that perhaps the reason these attacks are being ALLOWED to continue is that each attack generates information which the relevant authorities can use to permanently end at least this source of disruption.
    • Similarly taking the server for Neverwinter away (or any other game) will not solve this in fact it WILL have the opposite effect - the attacks will increase.
    • Each person who leaves because of these attacks only achieves one thing - they further boost the ego's of those responsible (who BTW as I type are in the Neverwinter server celebrating their apparent victory and posting the fact to Twitter)

Not really. Unless he gives a handle, it's no easier to find him than any other random player. And that's assuming he is even telling the truth at all.

As things stand, he has the best of both worlds - he can both play and disrupt the game at will. Take away the former and what remains?

Cryptic probably don't want to take the chance that he will escalate his actions if he is excluded whilst he has the ability to attack. Although, I am guessing that there are some of the community who will disagree with this philosophy.

Once again - the team is aware whenever the DDoS attacks occur. Clogging the General Discussion with these kinds of topics, repeatedly, is not helping to anyone & only gives undesired attention to the person doing them.
