Just Googled how to sell ships in STO. Only to find out that I cannot. But if I bought a ship with zen that I spent real money to get, why shouldn't I be able to sell any ship(s) that I bought technically with my real life cash?
In-game purchases from the C-Store are Bind on Pickup- which means they're non-transferable. (unless it specifically says you can transfer it)
It's not you- it's me. I just need my space.
Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.
because you cannot. If you want the game to continue existing, then Cryptic must have a monetary income. If you could sell on zen ships, they would lose a high percentage of their monetary income. It is like this in pretty much every MMO and is perfectly fine, in my opinion

Because the game exists to make the developer (Cryptic) money. Not to allow you to make money (via a grey market type setup) or effectively 'rest' a ship until a better version appears.

The answers to the questions you've posted in both of your threads are simply not the ones you want... so you scream at us for what you don't understand.
You people didn't think that I wanted to try and sell the TRIBBLE for real money? All that I would've had wanted was energy credits since the ship I want can't be bought in the c-store that I could buy zen with.
One time use items can be sold like keys, you cannot however sell something you have already used. This is a game not real life, code has no value except what Cryptic deems it does.
If the Ships you are not using are from Lockboxes or the Lobi Store (except the Dyson Destroyer) or are from an R&D Box or Doff Pack special promotion and are still boxed, you can sell them on the Exchange or through Private sales. Otherwise, you cannot sell any C-Store Ship, Fleet Ship, Event Reward, boxed or otherwise, or the above mentioned ships if unboxed.

Some games allow you to do this, STO does not unless it's a ship that Itminns stated.
Retired. I'm now in search for that perfect space anomaly.
It is an Iconian flight deck cruiser that I wanted to try to sell, it is way too slow turning for my tastes. I prefer quick smaller ships like my mesh weaver and Defiant.
Sounds like you've used the iconian ship? If you have then I'm afraid you're stuck with it.
For future reference, lobi & lockbox ships can be left unopened, transferred to the tribble test server and opened over there. That way, if you don't like it, the unopened box on the live server can be traded to recoup some energy credits.
Too late for you this time & this doesn't work for c-store purchases but its something at least
I think the reason you were receiving hostility is because your OP is worded in a way that makes it sound like you want to sell your old C-Store ships. (Only C-Store ships can be directly bought with zen, so in the shorthand of the forum people will assume this is what you meant when you mentioned using zen.) You have now clarified that you meant a lockbox ship (Specifically the Quas), but as C-Store ships are reclaimable on all characters the original understanding would have made this request sound like an endless source of EC revenue. (Again C-Store ships are reclaimable and account bound.)
As to your actual point, as the others have mentioned, for better or worse, only "boxed" ships can be sold. Once the box is open it is not really an "item" anymore but rather an "unlock" on that character. After all these years, again for better or worse, it is unlikely this system will change.
Either way, since you are stuck with the Quas, might I suggest you buy a conductive RCS console from the exchange? If you are new you may not know this but there are several consoles and traits that imporve turn rate, and the RCS is the main one. (The "conductive" version is a bit more expensive on the exchange, but has nice modifiers and a bonus ability which makes it more worthwhile than the old standard ones.) From my experience the Quas can be quite nimble once you get the turn stat up a bit, though you should still probably stick with DBB over DHCs for best results; which unfortunately may not be the playstyle you want. Also don't forget to properly allot power to the right subsytems. That can affect turn rate as well. Good luck with your build.
EDIT: Oh well, partially ninja'd by @alfred399 Guess I should type faster.

Because Cryptic doesn't want people buying ships from you, they want people buying ships from them. That you couldn't figure that out is...unfortunate.
Some good ideas @zarato4218 . @sto13tim#1245 you should also check out the pilot captain specialisation as spending points there also boosts your turn rate
Wow!! So much for getting GD help as a fricking new player!!
You got help and an answer of 'no'. You got taught that money goes into STO and never comes out. Now, were the answers couched in niceties? Nope. But you did get 'help'.
The ONLY way to try something and not get stuck w/ it is to transfer a toon to Tribble Server w/ said Unopened item (or lobi gems) & open it (or buy from lobi store) there. Tribble has no effect on Holodeck server and vice versa.

Pretty much every MMO has a "Bind on equip" system. STO was my first MMO too. I'm assuming that it's your first since you don't understand the bind/bound system. It exists to preserve rarity. Rarity is what keeps in game items.... rare and more importantly, valuable. Rare and valuable items within a "free" game are necessary to generate the spending of money. If ships weren't bound, people that don't like them could simply resell them and the market would get flooded which would eventually lead to oversupply and crashing prices which means no money for the developer. Which means no game for us.
Also, 200 Million EC is quite reasonable for a lobi ship considering the price of keys and how much lobi they generate. Keep working hard (or spending) and you'll be at 200M faster than you realize.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
If they allowed this, I think it would have to be in a way that Cryptic would make a cut.
That said? I could see the drydock system as being a first step towards repackaging ships. Because we now have a place that ships go that guarantees they have nothing equipped.
I think for that to continue, it would probably have to exclude reclaimable C-Store ships and charge dilithium with a chunk being cut as a facilitating/listing fee for Cryptic.

I thought it was because some of the users here are so toxic they have a two mile exclusion zone set up around them? I saw nothing wrong in the original post.
In LoTRO you can gift/ trade store items to other players if you use IRL money to buy a game currency that you can then spend on mailing/trading an otherwise account bound item. Unless there's something in the Holy Metrics to make this impossible, I don't see how this avenue is closed to Cryptic. It's more money on top of the sale already made

However, if it is credits that you are looking to convert your Zen/cash into... Lockbox Keys are a good means of doing that.
